That's pretty cool for sure, and further lends credence that we know a lot less about ourselves, the planet we live on, and the universe around us than we think.

Hahah. You have got to love misinformed people. As if we have discovered everything. As a species we have been a lot of place, and seen a lot of things, but everything? Never. There are countless species of plant/animal that we have not discovered and may never discover. This is WHY we have scientists on the job

I had just recently finished reading "Jurassic Park" and then watched the movie(again). To be on the fore front of discoveries, and actually write research on a first hand basis, would be simply overwhelming to me. To have to discover and create theories and ideas which nobody else has done so before, is just an amazing thought.

Kudos to these scientists. These guys are just doing what is inside themselves. It is what drives them in life. They do not want to destroy the area, but actually learn about it, so that they can in fact maintain it for the future. Discoveries are not bad, its the exploitation of the discoveries which we must be careful of.

just saw this article posted on CNN.com as well as the NYTimes.com, and was really intrigued by the article...glad to see it isn't a load of crap, and gets me excited about the possibility of other regions in the world that are still left untouched. I hope that public knowledge of the place doesn't mean that it'll inevitably be populated, bulldozed, dissected and destroyed...

hopefully there are some level-headed (and more importantly influential) people that will be able to create regulations and utilize what the environment has to offer in terms of research, rather than caging the species in there or even worse, turnin it into some popular attraction..

Damn right. We should all just die. Would you like to be the one to start?

Guys this area will probably never be populated in our life times. The reason its been left 'undiscovered' till now, is because its so remote. I am sure in the course of human history somebody has already been there, just has not recorded their journey.

We have discovered countless remote/amazing places on this earth, but they are not heavily populated for the same reason, its just too hard to live there.

I would actually like to see coorindates for this area so i can take a look on google earth. Anybody seen any? I didnt come across any in the articles ive read.

This is really amazing!!!
How is that possible? In this day and age...

Posted by InMyPlace** on Feb-07-2006 23:11:

as cool as it is that they found this place. id rather live with the mystery of 'what else is out there' than watch these scientists find these amazing places and have it all go. Because thats what we do with everything we touch. We're even living each day knowing that thousands of our own kind die each day because of our ways. so why spare places like this?
grrrrr. our actions make me sad=(

Hmm no one is thinking about it this way: What if these new unidentified plants had the ingredients to cure cancer or other diseases?

Then again...they may also inflict new diseases lol
