At least give the show one day before bashing it. Who knows.. if they get the ratings.. you maybe seeing a larger intrest in Trance in this House town. |

This is so sad.
yup it's bound to go down under the ground lol. dammit man, why don't they get the point and play the real stuff. I mean, is it so fucking hard to play something like Phantom Manor or something???? wtf. I was hearing it for about 20 minutes and the stuff if pure cheese......and the name of this definitely has to change lol. South beach dance party........yea sure. dammit.
We do have a dance music station though, But in order to hear it, You need an HD Radio Receiver. Power 96 created another station strictly for HD Radio called Power 96-2, Which happens to be an all dance music station. you can check out it's official site right here.

Dance music-mostly house and trance-makes its triumphant return from 9pm to midnight Sunday with the new show MarkyG's South Beach Dance Party. Would have never guessed Y100 but hopefully it's good. |

| Originally posted by Eyekon well before 93.1 was doing live broadcasts of electronic music, Y-100 used to do them. in fact, i have an old mp3 of Eddie G being broadcasted live from Level on Y100..to be honest i keep it on my computer because its a really long set even tho i dont listen to it often. the radio stations down here are slowly trying to bring back some electronic music..if you listen to power 96 enough (i do in the shower) they have played a commercial a few times that has promised to play underground electronic dance music . its gonna be called Power96.5 dash 2, so lets see how that goes. i think thats also only heard by satellite radio though. |
Dance radio will NEVER be heard on South FL airwaves again.. simply because 1) the die hard edm listeners think its cheesy and pure shit, 2) the general public has no interest in "techno rave" music.
If a radio station were to ever switch to an all dance format... which i highly doubt will ever happen... the station needs to balance it out for all listeners.
The way Party 93.1 did it was a very poor example of how to execute a dance station. As much as everyone on this board wants a station that plays club bangers.. its not ever going to happen in the United States on FM radio because radio stations have to pay the bills, licensing, salaries, etc... and Gieco, McDonalds, Car Dealerships, etc dont give a fuck, or know enough about the EDM scene to give a station a shitload of money for advertising.... so it has to be mainstream.
For an FM Dance radio station to survive... it has to please everyone... the trance addicts, the cooljunkie house heads, the mainstream top 40 crowd, the gays, the lesbians, and the latinos (freestyle)
93.1 Party tried focusing too heavily on the Top 40 and latino crowd too much by playing Freestyle and Promo Only releases (if you dont know what promo only is, google it.).. and basically left the EDM die hards out.
At night, they tried to grab the EDM crowd by playing mixshows... but unfortunatly, the edm crowd didnt give a shit about it because they were so disgusted with what was being played during the daytime that they simply didnt care anymore. In order for a dance station to be successful, the station has to balance it out throughout the entire day... basically play a little bit of everything... and they need jocks talking between the music. In the AM.. they need somewhat of a mainstrem-type mixshow... at lunch, they need an old school type mix show (freestyle and mid-late 90s music)...and 5pm.. they need a mainstream/underground type sound.... and at night, they need to dig a little deeper in their library and play the more obscure, trance & House music.... with live feeds from the big mega clubs. (Space, Metro, Noc, etc)
On the weekend mixshows... start with the mainstream shit early.. and gradually work into the more hardcore shit for the edm listeners.
Sunday nights... have a full out locals mix session.. get groove eric, oscar g, edgar, Global DJ, etc to do a local showcase.
Another night (when the clubs are dead in Miami)... bring in ASOT for a 2 hr mixset.
I listened to the y100 mix show last Sunday, and it actually wasnt that bad... sure, it played top 40 remixes and promo only shit... but it was a start in the right direction. The presentation of the mix itself was not as cheesy as the website made it out to be.... it will take time.. and a lot of guts for a radio company to put dance back on the airwaves in south fl.... party really fucked that format up... but whoever tries it.. needs to try and make everybody happy.

wtf is this guy? how can you associate latinos to freestyle? you cant associate any race or heritage to any kind of music. anyway. party 93.1 sucked because they had about a 50-song playlist and hit random on it and changed it like once a week. there is no way a "true" EDM station can survive in the states.
are there any stations at all in the world that play EDM 24/7 on regular radio airwaves? not on the internet, not satellite. but instead if you have a 1983 vw buggie which has am/fm and 8 track and can pick up your station?

| Originally posted by rhaney with all respect ben... Im not trying to start shit here (just a friendly debate).... learn radio... learn the demographics... then say what you need to say... but until then... you have no idea what you are talking about... its a proven fact that latinos like frestyle music (maybe not u.. but the majority do). In radio, companies spend MILLIONS of $$$$ on researching all this shit... they know everything. are you going to associate latinos to reggeaton too? what does this have to do with my response? Of course latinos ARE associated with reggaeton. If they werent, then I would be able to understand what the fuck they were saying in their music. Please let me know where i said that in any of my posts. my point is you cant associate heritage or race with music. White hillbillies from Georgia sure as hell dont listen to Progressive Trance and House Music. Black people from the Bronx sure as hell dont attend Garth Brooks concerts... and white people from North Carolina sure as hell don't attend 50 cent concerts... so what exactly is your argument here? |

| Originally posted by mister ben ok friendly debate. you first stated that none of us on this board had no idea what we were talking about to begin with when y-1000 made their announcement about this new show of theirs. you said give it a chance, we arent radio managers, maybe they know what they are doing. then after some posts you finally gave in and said you were wrong to begin with. yes i know corporations spend lots of money researching, "its a proven fact that latinos like freestyle" and the same goes for a majority of white people and black people who grew up in miami. i never denied latinos dont like freestyle, and yes im latino and i like freestyle too, but in your argument you made it sound like party 93.1 only played freestyle to attract latino listeners. from what i remember when they first started out they barely played any freestyle to begin with and when they did it was about the same 20 songs over and over. now about my point of "you cant associate heritage or race with music" was mainly to latino liking only freestyle as how you put it. hmm... south america? what do they listen to? do you think its english freestyle or spanish rock? i just dont agree with the association that the majority of said culture is to listen to this type of music. i think it very much depends where you live and what you grow up listening to. |
