It just comes from experience. I used to have the exact same mixer and spent about 30 minutes trying to figure out why one channel was so much quieter than the other. It never ocurred to me to check the gain first.

I hate to say this, but...

...I told you so

It was funny seing the anti numark comments that poped up.

*bump*

So I just ordered some Alesis Monitor 1 MK2's and 'lo and behold after investing $200 into them, they decided it was cool to not send me the proper cables needed in which to hook the speakers up to my mixer. they didn't send any cables at all as a matter of fact. Me, being the utter n00b I am, decided to venture on over to a HiFi Buys to ask if they knew of the cable(s) I would need to get. Unfortunately, they didn't.

So I turn once again for TA guidance!

The back of both speakers =

which are slightly larger outlets than the ones' on the back of my mixer which look like this:

even if they don't look larger. I tried fitting the cable from my computer speakers into the outlets on the back of my monitors and they were a little small for them.

What I'm guessing I need is a Y cable that feeds from both outlets on both speakers and feeds into one cable that would plug into the the two slots on the master portion of my mixer. But I'm not totally sure if I'm correct, or where to pick such a cable up seeing as how it appears I need two different sizes of plugs on either end.

I wanted to check here before I went through a bunch of shit with the Alesis technical support and/or the company that shipped it to me and their technical support.

Any ideas?

The Mixer needs to be fed through an amp, and your speakers connect to the amp.

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Feb-25-2006 02:40:

^^ what he said. youll need to buy some speaker wire to plug into an amp. speaker wire is cheap as fuck. amps, less so

Posted by TranceSpeeder on Feb-25-2006 03:27:

Well, I was able to get my hands on an old receiver that used to power speakers that were huge and powerful, so I think it should work to power my monitors. It weighs about 50 pounds and is from like, the 1960's

I'm pretty sure it'll work

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Feb-27-2006 00:55:

yeah man, that looks great! youd be surprised how good really old amps can be. they didnt fuck around back then my old man is still using amps i remember him using 20 years ago, and theyre still going strong.

Yeah, this thing is built solid. I'll just need to go get some cables and hook it all up. It'll be interesting using this vintage piece of equipment

Posted by Munchy on Feb-27-2006 06:10:

Old skool amp you got there, any home theatre receiver/amplifier will work

BTW, I'm an audiophile NOOB too, it took me like 10 threads to figure out how to hook up my mixer to my computer, and now that the mixer has finally arrived, I'm missing a cable

P.S. Very nice setup, I too plan on picking up some CDJ200's or if I'm feeling giddy, some CDJ800MK2's to mate with my PCV-275

Posted by T-Soma on Feb-27-2006 08:21:

I hate when you go and buy a new pice of equipment and you have it all unpacked and start setting it up when you relise you have forgot certain cables.
Happend when i baught my soundsystem damn forgot i needed RCA/TRS adaptors. I cant find any cables that go from RCA to TRS so looks like im gonna have to make my own.

Hah, hooking it up to a comp is something in the distant future... I've never been too adept in the skill of hooking systems up (I basically only know how to hook up video game systems to televisions ).

So this has been a much-needed learning experience.

And the 200's work great for me. I'd like the vinyl replication ability, but not enough to make the jump in price just yet. And especially a jump in price from 200-800mk2

Me in the near future:

-Fuck I want a pair of CDJ-800MK2's...
-Fuck I have no money...
-Fuck, I'd like to order 2 CDJ-200's please...

Question, can you use the platter on the 200's for fastforwarding (not scratching, just finding your cue) like on the 800/1000?

Yeah, but it's kind of like the tempo slider, it'll make the track sound sped up if you do it. I tend to just hold down the search button.

Posted by Lunar Phase 7 on Mar-26-2006 20:15:

you can use it to find your cue. pause first then spinthe platter.

nice set up btw mate.

numark are the work horse of the dj world.

they may have been crap 4/5 years ago. but they deliver now none stop.
