If you plan to use it Mixer -> Filter -> Amp, you'll
need to reduce the mixer's master so you don't overdrive
it. It will work.

The signal indicator flashes green when everything is
okay, and red when your overdriving the input. So.....
you can use that as a guide.

@ DJ RJT

Okay. Got it!

Thanks for your help...I guess I need 6 RCA to 1/4"....no biggie.
I wonder how long it will take to get to the west coast shipping ground. Guessing 10 buisness days. As long as its here before the 31st.

I bought an EFX500 in December and am loving it. It was kind of a pain to get used to at first, but once you get the hang of it, there's so much you can do with it. I have a PCV-275 and it's harder to use with that mixer than with ie a DJM600.
Have you taken a look at the EFX1000 yet? It's more expensive, but it has more effects.
Oh, and that Alesis unit for $50, sounds pretty damn good

What kind of troubles have you had with your PCV-275? I have the same mixer, and I'm looking to get an FX unit soon myself (most likely the pioneer 500 or 1000).

RJT, its shipping out of Oak Creek, Wisco.....you should get yours in no time.

Nothing big. It's just a little harder to turn on the EFX unit with the PCV-275. With the DJM600, you just press the effects button and that's it. With the PCV, u turn the mixer to "pre" under the effect part of the channel, and slam the level fader to 0. I haven't found an easier way to do it You have to make sure you have the in/out levels set correctly on both the FX and the mixer. Once you get used to it, it works well, I have no problems with it

w00t!

Posted by L.E.N. on Mar-06-2006 20:19:

Just got it. Its pretty nice little piece. Feels solid and looks like it could handle being rough on it. I still need to get the cables though. I thought it would feel cheap but it looks to be sturdy. Ill have a better review later tonight. For now its just my first impression.

Thanks Omnifex for the info in this unit...

This thing is pretty fun. I need to spend some more time learning all the features . Its a shame yours doesnt have the other modulations. It doubles the functions. It will take some time to get used to it but I can tell its worth the money.

Len,

No Problem! What do you mean, "Its a shame yours doesnt have the other modulations"? Mine is exactly like yours. I just didn't use them
when I posted a demo on what it can do.

As you see, you need time to play with it. Spring Break starts on
Friday. So, I'll have time to figure it all out.

No bad for $50.00 eh?

Saved me spending over a grand for the Xone. All I wanted was the
filters. If I find any other cool stuff on Ebay, I'll let you know.

Posted by L.E.N. on Mar-07-2006 20:17:

Oh I see, I misread your post. Im pretty happy with it....and yes there is alot to figuire out. It may be a while until I find the functions I like, and not abuse/overuse them. I found myself goofing off with it so much I kept missing my cues for the next track

It would be cool to find one or two of the other types and chain them together.

does anybody know if you can hook up two different alesis efx units to use both while mixing?

Posted by diskodave on Mar-08-2006 00:43:

I just got mine in the mail...

I was suprised on the quality... its pretty rugged and heavy... definately impressed, but I still need to play with it... haha

Yes, you can. On the side of each unit is a 9pin plug. One side male and the other female, so you can just "plug" them in side by side. That way you dont have as many cords running. It doesnt look like much but is but its a nice find, especially if your mixer doesnt already have an FX unit built in. It quenches the thirst for one of those pricey mixer.....until you can afford one

Posted by i got big pants on Mar-08-2006 06:08:

looks like i'll be purchasing the alesis pretty soon. i personally think they look really nice, clean, and simple. just picked up the denon dn-x500, and been wanting filters for a while....

Posted by L.E.N. on Mar-09-2006 22:05:

So far this is working out great! Its perfect for the breaks Ive been spinning. I need to mess with it a lot more but Im seeing the different uses for it though.

Alesis Philtre!JJ

Just received my Philtre unit from Novamusik! Excellent little box!
Only annoyances:

When doing LPF, normal is with the knob all the way to the right, and with HPF, normal is all the way to the left. This makes sense but it makes it hard when you're switching from HPF to LPF quickly!

Second problem -- My button for BYPASS doesn't seem to be centered properly. I have to press the top left side for it to go down naturally, otherwise the button might not activate properly? Is this a manufacturing defect that is just in my unit or do you guys have the same problem? thans

That's what the bypass switch is for.

Not at the least. I think you either have the Philtre on an uneven
surface or your not accustomed to how to manipulate the effects
you desire.

The sample mp3 I made was going from bypass to effect. Granted,
you need to be more experienced in what you are trying to achieve
to make it work.

Sounds more like you need to familiarize yourself with the Philtre
than a manufacters defect.

Posted by Scolomon on Mar-13-2006 17:22:

so lets say i buy a 400 dollar stanton filter (i dont even know if they make it anymore, i just read how erick morillo, armin van helden and rog sanchez use it). What do i get for this extra 350 bucks i am laying down? More control and added features?

Posted by OMNIFEX on Mar-13-2006 17:33:

I don't remember Stanton ever selling a filter for $400.00

I remember one that was silver, and rackmountable. I would
suggest you download the manual of both the Alesis and,
Stanton, and compare the two.

I remember researching the Stanton a few years ago, and
can't say it offered more than the Alesis.

The edge I would say the Stanton has over the Alesis is
rackmountable. But, again. You should download both manuals
and read both from front to back.

There are plenty of discontinued filters that are sold at
a higher priced discontinued, than they were in production.

The Filter Queen falls into such a catergory.

Posted by Scolomon on Mar-13-2006 17:41:

stanton djf1

that was the one i was referring to

Posted by OMNIFEX on Mar-13-2006 17:52:

Yeah. I believe that's the one.

It never cost $400.00 new. I would say $200.00 tops, and,
you could've found it cheaper. I would need to search in
my old DJ gear Magazines to confirm.

Somebody's trying to rip you off dude. There is no way
it went for $400.00 new.
