Sounds.. ill be honest with you I feel as if i am missing the build ups and breakdowns in my tracks as well.. I will post some of my tracks up very soon and i will def want some opinions...

I used to have the same viewpoint. It's natural to be completely polarized against something that is consistently overdone. It's a better idea, IMO, to just use them in moderation. They only get stupid when they're carried out for two or more systems, reaching divisions of 64th and 128th notes at the very end.

The same goes for just about every cliched sound out there. They're all alright as long as you use them in moderation.

I agree...I have gottan some pretty interesting sounds out of heavily filtered snares and snare rolls, delayed roll repititions, etc....

You should *NEVER* expect 1 or 2 things to make your track. But, you should never limit yourself to a certain amount of intstruments either.

Sometimes, things just fit no matter how much you usually dislike them!

#1 rule to producing and writing music....remove yourself of all musical prejudice.

the way i look at it ,is

you can use anything for a roll ,if you feel you need a roll ,and if not dont use it! a lot of tracks ive heard dont use them ,all of the elements just stop ,maybe you hear some fx,or pad then the main riff comes crashing in.
