My dad has got a realy old technics amp and altec speakers from the 80s that sound so warm and yet clear. The only problem is they have a big wood box that makes them weight too much to easily move and too big to conviently fit anywhere.
Its funny though how some people own these things and instantly think old means crap and are willing to get rid of them for not much.

lol old wooden box! That's what I have. Some old, warm sounding speakers that I dont even know the brand name on.

Yeah...love them. When we moved after my Dad passed away I made sure I was gonna get them before anyone else!

They are a bitch for their weight, but they look realy nice, not like those ugly portable monitors. Running off an Amp from 1988 and a Xone mixer...they sound real nice...warm rich sound...fills the room.

I really love good sound too I mean...how can you not...? Hearing a high quality track on a nice system is like...what we live for.

Tapco s5's. Awesome little cans. Very tight low end.

i'm using krk v8's. love 'em.

+1 for KRK RP5s! Great for mixing.

I use Mackie HR624's & a Mackie HRS120 sub. If you know anything about these then you'll know how good they are!

We use a pair of Alesis Monitor 2's (mid-fields) with 12" silicon cones...they're basically impossible to distort.Highly, highly recommended.

Event TR6's, been very happy w/ them. I had originally bought a pair of KRK's, but the mid-range sounded "tinny" and returned them for the TR6's.

I have Yorkville YSM1p's . The sound is outstanding. I got these for just under $300 each when they first came out. Yorkville has a really good return/repair policy and they are located across the road from where I bought them.

Cool, i've been thinking about these lately. Can you get away using them without a sub??

yea you could. the bass isn't all that strong though, the sub does help. However the mid's & highs make up for it.

If you've got a wee bit more cash to spend get the hr824's - they've got a good bass to them

Haha well I don't have that much money! i'm only looking to spend $600, no more. I guess I could get the HR824's if I save up, but i still need money for classes, this summer and next fall. Hopefully i'll get more hours at work so I can save some money up for a decent pair, else i'm just going to settle for something like the KRK V6s or the KRK RP8s, which I heard that those have decent bass with out a sub woofer. I'm ONLY looking for a pair for mixing on my CDJs, no production yet. But I'de like a pair that is good enough so that if I ever do get into production, I could use them. But I could always save up for a really nice pair that I can just use for production, and get a less expensive but still good quality pair with good bass response (wihout a sub) for just mixing on my CDJs. I'm looking for some to replace my PAs. A 6'' or 8'' monitor.

some Jamos (old)

Studio 130 if I remember correct.....

KRK Rokit 5's. Sound nice and only $260 for the pair at Guitar Center.

I'm running a pair of 12" full range Sansui SP-X7000s off of a Carver M-1.5t amp. The setup slams and can probably be pieced together on Ebay for roughly $600. I've been thinking about getting another pair of cabs to run off the amp.

I know they're not powered studio monitors but it is what I use and what I prefer.

i thought the KRK moniters are for studio's, i didnt know they work well for dj'ing too, but how many on here uses them for dj'ing and think they'r great ? coz now im thinking of buying a pair of KRK's. and for the KRK users, do you have an amplifier, or you use only these monitors for djing and they work great ?

You don't need an amp for active, as most of them are active, like the KRK RP series or V-II series. They have built in amp. Thats only for passive speakers. I'm looking into KRK's too, either the RP 8s or the KRK V6-IIs, but i've also thought about the Mackie' 624s.

Go for the RP-5s, they sound better than the BX5s. BX8s are a little better, but KRK beats M-Audio in the monitor department. M-Audio is not bad, but KRK just makes better monitors period.

No they don't. I'de go for the RP6s though, a little louder, and better in the bass department (but the RP8 is the best, has a little TOO much bass). I've heard the V6-IIs, they sound the best of all of them, but they cost a little more (you can get a pair for approx $650 at GC if you bargain with them, I tried one time, but I didn't have the $$ at the time).

Posted by x_moe on Mar-18-2006 04:56:

im going for the RP6, thats my budget. but when it says the price is $199.99, is that for 1 speaker or 2 ?
