Posted by AquaYak on Mar-19-2006 21:04:

ive seen several places on the web that the tiesto show is actually in june and may 7 is the day tickets go on sale. can anyone confirm this?

Posted by forever2day on Mar-19-2006 21:10:

I highly doubt it cuz on his website its officially confirmed, the date is confirmed and its at the commodore..which is so pathatic, only 1000 ppl???????

Posted by Tayfoon on Mar-20-2006 00:32:

Where else would you want Tiesto to play if not commodore ?

Biggest venue in the city

Posted by krysx25 on Mar-20-2006 00:48:

GM place?
PNE??

huh????????????????????????

Posted by mylespower on Mar-20-2006 01:59:

Lightbulb

it would actually be not a bad idea to have a huge tiesto in concert type of event in vancouver because then even the people who did't really know much of anything about trance would come out...they would bring their friends... who would bring their friends.... many of them would enjoy themselves and we would likely have a net gain of converted trancers thereby increaseing the popularity and importance of this music form in this city

the whole concept of a large scale event makes it more commercial yes... but that would bring out alot more people who were just going for the event and may very well end up coming around to liking the music and then avidly participating in the underground scene....

Posted by Tayfoon on Mar-20-2006 02:41:

Heres how it is

Tiesto doesnt like Vancouver, I doubt hell play on a weekend date here ever again. so a big concert on a weekday ? good luck

How many tix do you Tiesto will sell 3, 4 , maybe 5 thousand tickets ?

Thats hardly a reason to book GM place or the PNE.

Posted by mylespower on Mar-20-2006 02:48:

i was talking about the commercialization of trance (not necessarily tiesto) in general and yeah i see your point

very difficult to bring your friends and their friends to a trance event that costs $50+

1000-people venue is just right, the most tickets sold would probably be 2000 and MLC would be a rather bad place to bring a dj of tiesto's caliber.

Posted by jussed on Mar-20-2006 03:44:

You guys have to realize that DJs also charge as per capacity of a venue. If GM Place or PNE was listed as a venue, the cap would be around 5-7000 or so. Since the place probably will not fill up on a Sunday that's just wasted money and probably higher ticket prices.

Overestimating the lure of trance IMO.

Posted by vancbc on Mar-20-2006 03:49:

Tayfoon posts that Tiesto does not like Vancouver. Why is that?

Posted by mylespower on Mar-20-2006 03:55:

this had nothing to do with the current "lure" of trance in vancouver... because as we know it is smaller than we would like it to be

my post was about building up the scene...
im thinking that making a huge fuss about it would just get "normal" people (nontrancers) interested in the event...

then they might come out to see what all the talk is about and what is so great about this big "gm place sized" event

then... atleast some of the new people being exposed to trance would end up liking it and it would go from there

i know many people who haven't even heard of trance, let alone tiesto... but a little bit of "big show" commercialization might be the answer we're looking for

of course this is easier said than done... so please don't mistake my optimism for arrogance... i do realize how difficult promoting is... and i have nothing but respect for the promoters out there taking on the risk of providing us with the scene that we already do have.
