Morphine is the #1. Adrenaline is a hormone... remember that feeling of being in a fight with someone - heart pounding and such - this is the affect of adrenaline, its the short term hormone during the fight or flight response - a prolonged stress is dealt with by cortisol.

is it? i can understand morphine being number one, but demoral 2?

just asking, b/c i know when you have a baby demoral doesnt do anything (thats what i heard) for the pain, but the epidural works. wouldnt the epidural (whatever it is) not contain morhphine b/c of the baby?

i really dont know, i am just curious. arent you like studying something to do with medicine?

An epidural is alittle different because its an anesthetic, although they both relieve pain, they are different kinds of drugs. I believe the difference is that pain killers do their business via the bloodstream and is felt throughout the entire body, anesthetics do their business by numbing specific nerves.

If youve ever taken a pain killer, compare the feeling between taking a pain killer and getting a shot of novacaine at the dentist.

There are chemical structure differences between the two also.

I had my nose broken once. To stop the bleeding, they had to stuff gauze up there with the thin metal rod. It was the most intense pain I have ever been in in my life. I'd rather have my nose broken 20 times than go through that again. However, afterwards, something in my body kicked in and I was in total euphoria for about 20-30 minutes. The doctors did not give me anything. What was that?

Posted by EarnYourKeep on Mar-23-2006 13:57:

all this talk of pain killers is making me hungry for some...

xanax or oxycontin i'll be happy...or sedated for that matter

I have had all of the above.

Morphine makes me itchy like crazy so I prefer not to take it.
Demerol helps for a little while but the effects wear of very fast.
Epidural will knock your ass out!

Hope that you are feeling better!
