Where do you see this information? I have checked my Seneca home page and the collegestrike.com and neither site states this?

On collegestrike.com it states:

"OPSEU has proposed voluntary binding arbitration while the Council would like to go to Final Offer Selection. Ted Montgomery, Chair of OPSEU Academic Bargaining Team said during his press conference that they will review the Council's offer this evening and make a decision

Final Offer Selection - is a type of arbitration under the College's Collective Bargaining Act, where a neutral third party would look at both offers on the table and choose one or the other in its entirity.

Voluntary Binding Arbitration - is where an appointed arbitrator would also look at both offers on the table and choose the good and the bad from each offer to make a new agreement that both sides would have to live with. The arbitrators decision is final. "

This means the proposed for this to happen and the other side proposed final offer selection. They are going to decide which way to go

Negotiation is where two parties sit down and try to come to a deal. They were negotiating before the strike and for a little while afterwards.

Mediation is basically negotation faciliated by a mediator. The mediator makes suggestions, tries to get the parties to reach a decision. This is what they were doing Monday and Tuesday.

Arbitration is basically mediation, except the arbitrator tells the parties what they are going to do to come to an agreement. The arbitrator makes the deal, rather than the parties. Since this person doesn't really care what the solution is, as long as there is a solution, it is generally not a long process.

I've heard that they are in arbitration, I have also heard that they are not in arbitration. So who really knows what will happen?

This is already totally fucking over not only my current part-time job, but my work-placement for the summer... Durham's talking about shifting the timetables around so they don't have to extend the year so much. I don't know whats going to be worse. Taking a hit during school and not being able to work as much, or having the year extended so my placement won't last as long.
