FWIW, I'm not an accountant, but I'd be happy to give anyone advice re: US taxes.

But, unless you really, really, really _can't_ save your cash, it's always better to pay taxes in April (which means you have had more of money in your hands the rest of the year).

A tax refund (using standard deductions) means you lent the gov't your money, interest free for the year.

Most of use don't like the gov't at the moment, so that's a double whammy

One of the biggest deductions you can take is your place of residence/business. If the two are one and the same, then you're set. This of course if you're an independant contractor (1099).

I don't know if its good to owe the government or they owing you.
What's the w-4 form?

Going out on a limb there, 'eh? Sometimes It frightens me that these people live among us.

Posted by AdictaAlTrance on Mar-25-2006 16:52:

And that means?

Posted by Cool Xone on Mar-25-2006 17:36:

...means that I'm trying to put it delicately - you're an idiot.

A w-4 is what you fill out usually when you start a new job. You list your name/address/social security and filing status and number of dependants.

This info is used by your companies payroll department to determine yor federal and state withholdings. This form is not submitted to the IRS.

Self employed persons do not need to fill out a w-4.

Go go irs.gov and type in w-4.
