The reason it isnt the real world is because the people on the show know that they are being watched. If they didn't know that then maybe it would be the "real world", of course it would probably be real boring too. The funny thing is that once I was at Dave and Busters for a party for work. A lot of the real world people were there, and my friends and I bought a shit load of drinks & put it on the MTV tab. We did this because when you would buy drinks at the bar the Bartender would ask, "Are you paying for these drinks or are they on the MTV tab?". Hmm... let me think... so MTV ruled that night anyway.

I think a Noir quote is in order, MTV needs to get back to it's roots, waaay back.

I don't even see the point of ranting about how "TV" and "Radio" are bad. It's been bad. Always has been bad (for the most part). And always will be bad.
Didn't we all learn this around 15 or so? What sells isn't necissarily what's good.

never heard of the crap!
i admit i used to watch a lot of mtv when i was younger. i don't know if it's because i'm getting older or mtv just doesn't play my type of music but i've become so sick of it. the only shows on mtv i do watch are real world, the challenges and VERY SADLY "next". i don't know why i like that show so much...maybe because it's so stupid, it's amusing.
shows like "laguna beach" and that "8th and ocean" or whatever it's called make me realize what type of audience mtv really caters to. as for finding music, i have to do it on my own pretty much because i don't listen to music radio anymore or watch mtv videos.
I never watch mtv, the main channel never shows music even thought its the main "music channel", which shows real stupidity.
I only watch mtvDance here early mornings or late nights when they show less commercial stuff/ good stuff.
I watch Rapture tv, (link: http://www.rapturetv.com/ )a trance channel on sky,which you will prob get in the US,atleast I hope so, it's pretty good, they play Agnelli & Nelson, Armin van Buuren, Chicane, Delerium, and I know you'll all prob kick-off but they also play Tiesto, I saw flight 643 other day and imo its not bad.
Unfortunately they also play,on rarest of occassions some hiphop but the majority of stuff is good.
And early mornings they have a mix of chillout,some of which has blown me away.
They have dance programs too, I watched it a few days ago and they had a show with interviews from Steve Lawler, Tall Paul, Anne Savage, John Flemming, Judge Jules, Ali B, Jon Beltram and ofcourse, our high tipper Carl Cox, to name just a very small few.

Anyway PartyZone is a "nice" progrem with some EDM,some cheese...it used to be better when they had those Megamixes with like Britney Spears Vs Ferry Corsten Vs Black spider Vs Maddona Vs Orbital
Other than that its simply Amazing how much this channel doesnt revolve around music but just stupid Rappers who calls themselfs 'Artists' all the time for some reason,stupid Teens with their stupid teen-songs,their Stupid Rich-teens show,their stupid hot teen bodies mmmmmmmmmm

I actually used to watch MTV a lot for Daria, but now they've even cut back on that awesomeness.
OK...the following shows how much MTV sux ass:
They once had a show where they would have a guy and his girlfriend come on and they then showed them pictures of two celebrities and aksed them as well as the audience which one was more attractive, if they answered the same as the audience, they won. They would then take a picture of celebrity and a hologram of the picture, and do the same thing. Genius TV if you ask me. If you know what the people are MTV were smoking at the time they came up with this, please let me know because I want some...
ah, they basically play rap & hip hop. back in the late 80's and early 90's they at least played a little rock.
its not Music TV, its rap/hip hop/stupid reality show/commercials targeted towards ignorant teens TV.
sickening. i refuse to watch, and quite frankly, i hope they're one day pushed off the scene by another Music TV station.
