Ultra sucked. So disorganised is not even worth to type. The park was so dark,,, GG was so much fun.
PVD`s set was alright,,, at least is the only thing I enjoyed. I got ill just from watching so many kids running around w/ lights and whistles.
Definitely not worth my money. I went cause my friends wanted to go and we got free tix,,, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.
i dont have much experience at all with events and all, but i had the best time of my life. i got to shake BT's hand after his set!!!! i didnt know how to experience it though, so i was kind of overwhelmed by it all, like, "which stage should i go to, there are so many?"
next year, ill know what i can bring in, where to go, etc. im so sad its over!!

MTV to play a tv show special on Ultra... now that might make me watch that station after not given a damn for a good few years.
mtv has an agenda to push, politically, and socially. to do that, you have to appeal to the masses. in america, EDM is not music of the masses, but of a minority. so mtv america dont give a rip about EDM.
Just got back today. I'm sleep deprived but I'll write what I can.
This was my first Ultra, but all my friends had been to previous ones so they could compare. The worst thing was the sound. WTF was up with the sound on the Ultra main stage and the Live stage? During Oakenfold's set and Junkie XLs set, the sound was so horrible, the bass was gone, it was distorting treble garbage. Everyone was just kind of looking at each other like WTF is somebody going to do something about this??? But no the problem just kept on going. Also the volume was way low too. Finally for PVD closing out the main stage, they seemed to fix the problem somewhat but even at one point during his set, everything maxed out and distortion happened. My friends and I were really pissed at all the sound issues. I mean get some freakin professional sound people that know WTF they are doing. There is no excuse for that amateur bullshit. Everyone paid big money and there were times it was easier to just walk away than listen to the horrible distorted mess. The tents in contrast had the sound down just fine and they were rockin.
I had a blast, the visuals were awesome. I just hope they learn from the mistakes this year for next year. I heard Ultra 8 was thrown by someone new and also GG took away quite a bit from the size of the show. My friends who had been to previous Ultra's said the main stage was at least half as small as the main stage this year.
Good times though while still holding on to my twenties...
At this point, I just need some sleep...
Well here's my review of Ultra a bit longwinded but meh...
Me and my friends got into the park at around 12 and we walked over to the Carl Cox & Friends tent and this DJ Ive never heard of Mark Lewis was droppin some dope shit. I met a girl from school in the tent and we talked. I saw all the Margarita Wrestling girls dancing around (damn they were hot!!).
Then I looked down at the program and was OH SHIT Second Sun is about to come on so we rushed over to the Ultra Stage. They were both on stage and Adam came out and said hello Miami we are Second Sun or something like that. They played a lot of there stuff Adam kept singing and he would do the same moves he ran around and I was slapping peoples hands I stuck my hand out and he got me. Some stuff they played The Spell (I freakin love this song), Crush (Dooooope!), and Playground which is awesome on those speakers!!!!
One of my friends didnt eat anything in the morning and was up late the night before so he was hungry so we went and got something to eat (Those hamburgers were straight ass!) and when we got back from the bathroom who do I see but Adam from Second Sun chillin by the Carl Cox tent so I went up and talked to him told him he had a really good set he said thanks shook my hand told me and my friends they were living down in Miami now then he had to go.
After meeting him we decided to go to the House tent to check out Robbie Rivera who totally wrecked it. It was crazy in there. The house tent probably had the best energy the whole night with a few exceptions. We had to leave early cause this kid we were with got TIRED! HOW LAME IS THAT ?!?!?!?!?!!?
So he got water then we went to see Infected Mushroom who definitely kicked some serious ass. It was my first time seeing them live and I definitely would go to see them again especially if was at night. All you smelled during their set was pot it was crazy.
So then we met up with some other people and walked around and went chilled by the Break Beat 08 tent and there was this guy Exzact up there I wasnt really feeling his set then Babby Anne came she was pretty good and she had Jen Lasher and some other hot chick dancing on stage. But we dipped out and went to see Erick Morillo who didnt come out to strong but then got into it my friend wanted to go see DJ Dan at the house tent so we went and right as we walked in he started playing my fuckin jam Steve Lawler That Sound (Steve Angello & Sebastian Ingrosso Mix)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After that I couldnt stop dancing I think he also played a tech house remix of Royksopp What Else is There I think it was remix by Axwell (on a side note Swedish House Mafia Rocks I wish they were at Ultra) and he closed with Eurithmyics Sweet Dreams (Steve Angello Mix) good ass song. We then left the house tent and Erick Morillo closed with the same song although Im not sure if it was the Steve Angello Mix.
So we left I kinda wanted to see Okenfold but some of my friends wanted to see The Killers so I went with them we got there Hot Hot Heat was finishing up they played Goodnight Goodnight so it was all good. Then came the part of Ultra I hated waiting for the killers pissed me but the DJ was there played Alone Tonight which cheered me up but then he fucked up on the next and the crowd booed. So finally The Killers came on and there pretty good live we left early to go see Prodigy and I caught some of Okenfolds set it wasnt that bad he had that video playing the back which definitely caught my eye.
We waited for Prodigy to come on which didnt take to long compared to the Killers. When they came out they had amazing energy they played some of my favorite tracks. Then they came back and did an encore and played Smack my Bitch, Voodoo People, and Out of Space. They fuckin tore it up.
After they got off stage a lot of people started leaving so my and my friends immediately started moving up we got like 20 feet away from the stage for THE MAN PAUL VAN DYK . He came out quick but they had a few technical difficulties which only took a minute to resolve. I dont know what people talk about when they say he has no emotion he gave the technician a WTF look before his set. He got into and destroyed the set there wasnt a moment were I didnt stop moving definitely the best set of the night and this was my first time seeing him. He was full of life singing along with songs (well time of our lives) and doing this twisty thing with his hands. I can definitely see why hes #1 he played a hard ass set.
So all in all dispite a few moments were I was pissed off Ultra was totally worth it. I am definitely going next year especially cause I might get free VIP passes
MY FIRST ULTRA
ARRIVE 3 PM
The will call line was 2 hours! Whoever fucked that up, you suck. Thank god my girl and I had tickets already, but my 3 buddies waited 2+ hours.
We get in after a 10 minute wait. Sure enough, people will digi cams and backpacks were getting in, FUCK. Figures I guess. Its hardly crowded at all @ 3. Most of the tents have plenty of room in the back and even the middle. I've never been to a party during the day, what a cool vibe. Plenty of people all fucked up. Saw a guy twitching on the back of a stretcher, idiot. Cops were smoking cigars on their golf carts lol. We grab some 21+ wristbands, fake ID's and all.
The food was great, lots of selection, prices were typically high. The drink lines were fucking long as fucking fuck. $6 for a beer and $8 for a mixed drink including Vodka (Absolut), rum, bourbon, whiskey (Jack Daniels). Mixers included cranberry, orange, grapefruit, redbull, prob some more. At the beginning of the day they mixed em quite stiff with minimal ice, later on their got worse.
So we grab some food and drinks, off to the Cox tent for some Danny Howells. I'd give him an 8.5/10. Pretty damn good. Had be groovin @ 3 PM. On to Marco Carola, not bad either, 8/10. Went to check out the main stage via Infected Mushroom. Not really my style at all, maybe we went during a low point, but I didn't like em much. 6/10. Left quickly. Nic Faniculli was shredding the house tent. 8.5/10. Adam Beyer in the techno tent, WOW. 9/10. On to Darren Emerson, kindof forgot his sound, so no grade. Seb Fontaine @ the house tent was SICK. Huge crowd, serious energy in there. 9/10. Next was DJ Dan in the house tent again. He threw down hard. 9/10.
6:30
Briefly saw Mistress Barbara in the techno tent, awesome awesome awesome, she threw proper tunes male or female, 8.5/10. Josh Wink in the Cox tent threw down proper as well. Sorry I can't remember many styles, it was a long day, I remember liking him though, 8.5/10. Caught some Donald Glaude in the house tent, contrary to the bashing on TA, I liked him, 8/10. Back to the main stage to watch Erick Morillo close... wow. New appreciation for this man. He has some serious skill and well as a serious ear for sick ass tunes. Crowd was bonkers. 9.5/10.
7:30
DJ Hell... wow... talk about dark twisted nasty sick deep hard groovy rythmic shit... 9.5/10. Paul Oakenfold... caught his first 3 tracks. Speakers were fucked up. Felt REAL bad for the guy. Played some nice trance in the beginning too. We had to leave, just couldn't get into it w/ no bass. No grade. Jackal and Hyde vs. Dynamix... WOW WOW WOW. I've never heard basslines like these guys have. If you didn't move during this set you have no soul. Bunch of grimey fucked up dudes jumpin around like crazy. One of my favorite sets of the day. 9.5/10.
8:00
CARL FUCKING COX WAS INSANE!! Anyone can vouch for this. He had his tent pulsating w/ every beat. Just a sick selection of tunes mixed PERFECTLY. This man has talent. I never really appreciated the man until now. I danced harder in this set than any other all day. More sweaty people in here than anywhere else. It pained me too leave but I was so fucking tired. 10/10!! Richie Hawtin, mad skills, loved his sound, 9/10.
9:30
Went to Prodigy. Honestly, they were OK. All I heard was the main singer screaming... ULTRA FESTIVALLLLLAAHHHHHHH!!! ARE YOU READY TO ROCK MIAMI?!!!AHHHHHHHHH.... not really my style. I have much respect for the group, but I'll stick to their CD's. They seemed very full of themselves. I'll never see them live again. 6/10. They def had a unique sound unlike anyone else there. Checked out Mauro Picotto, wowzers, crazy sound he has. Really got down to his shit. 9/10. Went back to Cox for a bit... still TEARING that tent up. People were overflowing.
10:00
REST! HOLY SHIT WERE WE TIRED. Sat down on the hill and absorbed the craziness. A bunch of retarded rollers were hanging around giving horrible light shows. Sucking pasaphires and stumbling around. So pathetic. That was my rant for the day.
10:30
TIME FOR THE MAN. PV FUCKIN D. With the massive crowd, he decided we weren't close enough. After pissing a bunch of people off, we finally made it around 30 ft from the front. Perfect sound, not too crowded, we decided we were OK. Paul van Dyk deserves the number one spot, period. He had that crowd rocking from the first second he stepped up there. I saw him @ Space the night before, but his Ultra set blew it apart. He played some CLASSICS one after another. As well as some newer stuff. Also the BS tracks like Otherside and Time of our lives, fuck that, but thats almost standard for him nowadays. Stayed until close, had no itention of leaving. Absolutely love this guy.
MIDNIGHT
The sound dies
Took us about 30 min to get out of downtown, but after that we were smooth sailing.
OVERALL
Had a wonderful time. Wouldn't change a thing. Got to see a TON of DJ's for a relatively low price per DJ. Nothing like celebrating EDM w/ 50,000 others. Just a surreal enviornment. Everyone is rolling at this place. NOBODY ones gave me a bad look, a shove, a jerk remark, nothing. Very friendly vibe. I'll be going back many years from now. It was WAY more than I expected.
PS: Sorry my review sucks, I'm terrible w/ tracks, I'm a noob. Grades are personal opinion only w/ the best of my knowledge as far as skill goes. SEE YOU NEXT YEAR.
Anyone got the tracklist for PvD? Would be much appreciated!!
anyone have that "THIS IS NOT MIAMI" track that sander played in mp3?? and does anyone know where i can find some tracks that BT was playing or a break set of his? he was just nasty.
no BT breaks sets out there really. Most of the remixes he played were new ones he made so they aren't out there yet.
I didnt personally get to hear BT, but from what everyone I know who did see BT, they all said it was insanity!
Also, I learned something this year. if you dont want people asking you if they can buy beans from you, dont be blowing up on the floor, or wearing your sunglasses at night

Surprising. The problems can be counted in a hand compared to years past.
YEars past there was a rediculous line for WATER not alcohol ( water, now that was chaotic ), lack of bathrooms, DJ"S waaaaaaaaaay off time-slots, dj's not appearing, stages opening almost close to sun-set, bunch of technical difficulties, water costing close to 10 dollars ( that was around Ultra 4 ), and problem getting to Main stages due to full capacity among other bunch of things, getting to Ultra and making a horrendous line, EVEN if you had a ticket, opening the doors always 1 hoour late among other things.
This year there was the WILL call Problem, Sound System Problem, and a Line to the ALCOHOL line. Time slots were on time, impecable, organization for that matter in that term. You could easily walk around from one tent to the other where in bayfront ( Even though I prefer it ) it would be a chaotic maze to get from main stage to the other places.. this was not the case this year, Main stages sucked, okay.. but other then that.. WTFFF... that confuses me to hear comments that it totally sucked. Sets were awesome, as well as tent set ups aKa Carl Cox and Friends, House tents, techno stage. If you went for the music with friends, I mean, theres no way you can have a bad time, perhaps its me, cause I really go for the music, it could be a shitty ass place, but if there's the right vibe with the right music, then what does it suck about it. Oh IM sorry.. yea I just drank water so I guess I saved my bad humour with making the drinkers line.
Ive been reading reviews in newspapers ( miami herald, sun-sentinel ) and veterans, industry alike has been praising and really placing Ultra on the spot this year, its said to have been sold out and even the possibility of going over the 50,000 mark. Surprising.. not sure with this figure but thats the word. It sure as hell was succesful, people showed it with the chanting when the festival was done, ( never seen that before ).. and it sure has hell will be back next year. I hope Global Gatherings helps in making each festival even better crossing ever aspect of it.
yea people were really loving it and enjoying from what I saw. I can easily say I'll be back next year. Felipe what were they chanting lol??
Next year, if I go, I will go earlier in the day. The 2+ hours in line to get in and only really seeing 4 DJs kinda ruined it for me this time around.
But the DJs I did see fackin' rocked it - Glaude, BBB, Prodigy, and Misstress Barbara. And I did get vid - my boobs were big enough to fit the camera after all...he he he.
