Benassi!

Posted by all-nite-freak on Apr-07-2006 14:15:

no...

Preach is in Ottawa....

I honestly dont think its a smart move by Aria to keep it secret...
honestly as interesting as all the old residents are, a dj cant do much with an hour set.

The biggest tourist weekend in months and not one dj that an out of towner knows...

hmmmmmm

As popular as Preach and Marco are, you may get ppl going in the other direction to Montreal since those djs are at BeB too. And it's the long weekend, meaning potential mass exodus from Ottawa. Then again, some will stay behind to catch the two on consecutive nights, cities are so close.

The new Surface is sweet, decent size with lots of dance area, almost as much as Aria. Ottawa tends to draw a bit younger crowd to edm scene than Montreal I find, even though legal age is 19 here, 18 in MTL.

Secrets are fucking gay, I've had enough heartbreak with the whole Ferry + BeB thing!

By popular demand, review of Benassi:

Arrived at Millenium at midnight, no line up but venue already packed. Millenium reminds me a bit of like the Guv in TO, I know you TOTAs will hate that. Anyways, Benassi came on at midnight, to a large ovation. His first few tracks did not go too smoothly, technical issues resulting in some embarassing skips if you were into the beat. And speaking of being into the beat, Benassi played hard house, much different than what he spun months ago at the Guv. At times, his set had dark, progressive elements to it, you would have thought you were listening to Sasha. Mixing was sound throughout, and remixes of Satisfaction and other signature tracks were actually palatable.

Music - 8.5
Vibe - 7.5
Chickometer - 8.5

I do not care about the Guv comment.. but comparing Benassi to Sasha.. that is just WRONG!

I know, but that's how much I was shocked and stunned by his set. Mixing is fairly solid, no comparison to Sasha, but his track selection was good that night.
