That makes me think it must be external then and not the power supply. In which case what length cables are you using? They are likely to be unbalanced, and so should be 3m max. If so get some cables with good shielding - maybe even the DI. Thing with the DI is it will allow you to run balanced cables, but then you amp needs to be able to accept them.

My current mixer does not allow for balanced out but my amp does allow for the inputs. I know the problem is the laptop because it never happend with my desktop or my other lappy.

I keep thinking of a question and then thinking you already answered it elsewhere, and I keep coming back to the step down transformer being the problem.
If you can get hold of a returnable DI, you'll need to plug it in after the mixer, but it will have a 1/4 inch input (6.35mm) socket, so you'll need a (probably) RCA to 1/4 " lead (short as possible) to connect, then you can run balanced as long as you need.
DI's come in different types, so you'll need to get one with a balancing transformer to give you DC issolation, but I am still a bit iffy it that will actually work for you.
you could cut the mixer out to the test if you are able to connect the pc to the DI in the same way - depends on your connections.

I can cope with it for now but im going to wait untill i buy my new soundcard and mixer before i buy anything else.

Hi!
I've got the same problem with my acer 5024. The thing is: I've noticed that the internal microphone 'leaks' to the speakers, so when the fan turns, I can actually hear this on my headphones. This occurs even when the microphone is muted in the volume controls, I can hear it when I scratch it with my finger or something. I haven't got a clue on to disable it, except for cutting the actual wires inside... wich I don't see as a real option. I think this could also be a source from the noise apart from ground loops

I have just gone and bout a cheap ground loop isolator in ebay. Should be here soon. Ill see how it works then...
