-- Why don't you compete in the ID contests?

Maybe we were able to listen to the samples off the server, rather then having to download a zip it would help a lot.

I know if i was board i may be like, let me listen to some of the samples you know?

But downloading a zip file takes a bit, then you need to load them all into a player.

I just think it would help alot if u could just click on a link & listen to them...

sadly i've never even paid any attention to those contests... i just figured i wouldn't be any good at them and i was always more interested in reading about a track than IDing it in a contest... i would like to give one a shot if it's actually TRANCE related (we are on tranceaddict after all... ) i mean i know we all like edm and different genres, but maybe if we could at least keep it to sub-genres of trance... progressive, euro, cheese, psy, regular, (and maybe even a 1999-2000 era genre, etc then that would be cool....?

that being said i focus more on the older stuff, and not the new ASOT tracks that come out every other day.... what has been the breakdown of "types" of tracks that these contests usually contain?

how does that help?

I know tetsu/mart & all them will be top 3 anyway

Maybe the contest should be with unkown tracks...

That way someone may id them

or maybe there should be an unkown track id contest, doesnt have to be monthly but it could be fun...

despite almost always downloading, and listening, to the samples the reasons i've never entered are twofold:

one, i don't think i could ever win one despite being a decent spotter; i think my best-ever showing would've earned a 3rd or 4th place finish and that was a while back. in the face of the encyclopedic knowledge of guys like sandleaper or grimreaper, i don't stand a chance

two, i haven't liked the samples lately at all: the last contest i really liked was drm's.

and a few people do cheat, as i recall seeing individuals discussing the contest on hubs some time ago.

well it varies depending on who's making it, but for instance this contest...i think MaRt did a really nice job with stuff. there is trance, progressive, house, pop remixes, ambient stuff, etc...

just seems like you can't please everyone i guess. i mean some people want the older trance like you said keith...some want the newer ASOT trance...some want more than just trance...some want mostly trance...

Hmm... A lot of people look at the scoreboard and see someone with say 95 points. They're just not going to have the incentive to enter, regardless of how well they might do. And if the names of the top few arent there, people dont know whos entered, and wont say something like 'oh look I dont have a chance against Jan'. If they dont see your name there, they might be more inclined to enter.

Just to try and get the number of participants up.

Or even PM the participants the rankings and points, but DONT post it in the thread. That way people have to enter to find out how well people are doing, and again they wont be put off by people with outrageous scores

i'm sure it's happened...but do those people still actively compete? to be honest if i had to pick people who i'd guessed might cheat...it would've been in the earlier days...and on the more trance oriented contests...i dunno

too many samples in my opinion. would be more likely to do it if there were a few less. i stopped doing it a while ago because they got too bloody difficult too altho i see this one is supposed to be easier.

i think the reason there are more samples these days is so more diversity can be included, and in theory i guess giving more people a chance to have IDs that they know. i agree some of them had been pretty hard at times, but the last few have been getting somewhat easier i think.

and also back in the day when there were less samples and more trance for example...there were a couple of contests where we had ties...

but yeah i see what you're saying...i remember one or two contests had 100 samples

it's true, i still have the logs, first i was pissed but then i just couldn't stop laughing because they couldn't get any of the id's that actually required skill to id.

Posted by Floorfiller on Apr-07-2006 14:53:

this might sound dumb, but what if we did some kind of teams? that way each team could make a group of 2-3 people that could cover more genres...

i guess then the concern would be that all the powerhouses would join a team, but honestly i personally would rather play against them because i enjoy the competition hehehe

well im sure swamper can set up a ftp or something that people can just throw unknown track 1 -> 60 on the server... Mr. Mod talk to him about it

I think that will definately help a lot...

I know the unknown tracks one may be a little hard but the person would have to get the name from somewhere... But id say they would have to provide proof from a sample or something, htfr for example has a lot of older samples and stuff...

You obv couldnt be thats Paul Oakenfold - Razzle Dazzle, cause Oakenfold told me so...

i think swamper would say that is what the Unknown Track forum is for...i don't think he'd be up for it

Well im talking about 2 different things. I think he would be up for adding the ID contest to the site, unless thats illegal .

Posted by RebeL9 on Apr-07-2006 15:16:

yeah I also think that the reason that there are few who participates is because the contest either:

1. spanns over too many genres. alot of the people here are mainly into the different trance genres.

2. too many samples. at least half the amount would keep it at a normal level

I personally mainly listen to different trance genres and keeping

For me it's because I lack the knowledge to answer most of those id's. I never heard of any of those tracks from the current competition with the exception of 3 obvious tunes.

Posted by GroundLine on Apr-07-2006 15:39:

So, maybe there should be a purely trance competition that runs simultaneously with the current style one.

The competition could be shorter, 2 weeks sounds good to me, with 30-50 samples. And maybe also one weeks pause in between competitions? And new people to host competitions, not always the winner...

Posted by Nrg2Nfinit on Apr-07-2006 15:41:

i dont really have the time right now with exams and what not

this sumer ill try to compete in one of the months

That more trance in a contest = more people able to score high is a myth. You only need to look at JJ-T1's contest to see that.
