Yeah I mean there's no specific genre called "instrumental hip hop" but there are DJs/Producers who produce it I know.

It takes a real cultured listener to enjoy the Ninja Tune style stuff but Coldcut pwns.

Lots of people might be confused here because the lines between downtempo/ambient and chill out are blurred and to me, its all calm music. Pork Recordings came out with some dopeass downtempo compilations but the problem like Ninja tunes, it goes off into the experimentalism world, with sound samples thrown in like crack.

76:14 is still the landmark album, followed closely by Higher Intelligence Agency/Biosphere'd Polar Sequences.

I'm still not quite sure where to stand with DJ Shadow. "Endtroducing" has so many of those 1:00 tracks that dont actually contain any music.

There's a total of about four minutes of skits in over an hour of music. How can that significantly affect anything?

I also love the skits in Entroducing. Adds just a little bit of humour.
