Nevertheless, I think all immigrants should be put into a 8-week ESL course so they could at least grasp the basics and be able to get through every day life. |

i think part of the problem has been touched on in the thread. the immigrants that do come here dont want to assimilate to the culture and instead bring their culture and expect us to adapt/cater to them. but i guess the native americans feel the same way about us.

| Originally posted by jdat and mannnnnnnnnnnny other countries. I for one living in France live in a predominently turkish area. I love it. The grocery store where I do most of my shopping has everything in turkish so I sometimes have to guess what the products are but for the most part I have it quite well figured out. Perhaps these people aren't integrated ( they barely speak french actually ) but I don't care. They are working honestly so good for them! Look around the world and everywhere there are little foreign colonies inside all the big cities. |

| Originally posted by NebulousQ A difference is that the "immigrants" here are actually trying or wanting to become citizens of the state, while in France and other European countries it is very hard to become a citizen. Most "immigrants' in European countries are not citizens nor try to be, rather they come in on a working visa or a foriegn workers program. Isn't this part of what the riots in France were about? Poor foriegn workers feeling like they are getting the very short of end of the stick, partly because they weren't citizens? Compared to most of the world becoming a citizen in the USA is easy. |

| Originally posted by Slylee yea what the hell was that all about? i thought they said it was because they passed a law that allows employers to fire younger employees without notice....hahah my bf and i were like, "uhh, isn't that what getting fired is?" seriously though, those riots were crazy! fucking animals, i felt bad for the cops that was horrible...are they still going on? i try not to watch the news that much. |
sowwy! the nature of the riots sounded similar.
but still...what's going on with those happening now?
made this post in a similar thread in the PDD recently...
i have no problem with people coming to america as long as it's done legally, showing me they actually want to be here...what i do have a problem with is a entire culture pooring over the border because their country doesn't care enough about them and basically turning california into a giant barrio. the problem with immigration in this country is that the mexican communities that spill over the border have no desire to assimilate into our society and culture. they come for higher wages and to leech off of american resources and that's it.
obviously there is nothing that can really be done about the huge population of illegals now. what really needs to happen to solve the problem is to improve the quality of life in mexico. of course that will never happen because their government is too corrupt to do anything about it.
the only thing i think would ever fix mexico though is if the united states annexed mexico and put in the money to fix it. they will never do it themselves.

nebolous i kinda have to disagree with u ....i don't think it's hardest at least in france to become a citizen ....after u spent some years in france u can get it .....and if u ask me some people simply don't deserve it at all
by the way, i think it's funny how the protestors downstairs are chanting in spanish and holding up THEIR country's flags when they are trying to have rights in america.

I think we should have better border patrol but it should be easier to become a citizen. Like if you can prove you will work and be productive and not strain the economy then they should just be like youre in. Of course that might not help that much but I definitely think we need better securuty along the Mexican border.
Also, for all the immigrants currently in the US, we should give them citizenship if they are working steadily just so that we have a record of them so they can start paying taxes and what not. If not, adios puta.
wooooooooow I love how the whole "immigrant" thing is only related to Cuba for you...because IMMIGRANTS are also Haitian, South American, Mexican ETC (EVEN European) & there are lots of those here.
Yeah, they don't deserve the basic humane rights of life because they don't possess a few important numbers in our government scroll books.
