maybe not for you

how bout the workers that were fined 4hrs pay for "organising" on a worksite to spend 15 mins gathering financial contributions for the widow of some fella killed on the job.

link

or how bout the workers that were all fired and then asked to reapply for their jobs under new arrangements?

link

or those threatened with litigation for refusing to work in un-hygenic conditions
link

these were just the ones i encountered today. and if you think thats all well and good, thats fine. but, assuming the cases are genuine, its pretty fvcked from where im sitting.

which is not allowable under the laws, and is being investigated by the department

Look, shit was happening before the laws were passed, and shit is happening since.

yes, its being investigated. no, it hasnt been confirmed whether its legal or not. and what, youre telling me people wont be breaking the new laws at some stage or another? come on. the new laws greatly increase the opportunity for abuse. and i guaran-damn-tee you it will see abuse.

that reminds me of another question... what is marriageable age? or "legal" (not that I date jailbait, this question was just out of pure curiosity)

isn't that pretty much EXACTLY what I said?

The shit, ie abuse, was happening before, and shit, ie abuse, will continue to happen?

and these laws will BROADEN the ability to conduct abuse you mong (which is pretty much EXACTLY what i just said? )

This is what I had issue with. I DID NOT TELL YOU AT ANY STAGE what you claim I did.

In fact, I said they would be abused.

no, but for your statement

quote:

to actually mean

quote:

the new laws have nothing to do with this particular instance

(which is im thinking what you were trying to say, forgive me if im wrong?)

you would have to be arguing that the new laws have nothing at all to do with the new work standards culture, which is what i was arguing, albeit perhaps ambiguously. give an inch...

also, my comment

quote:

and what, youre telling me people wont be breaking the new laws at some stage or another?

is a question, not a statement. i guess you answered it

Posted by Trance Nutter on Apr-12-2006 11:47:

No. You misunderstood. As usual.

Posted by Matthew D on Apr-12-2006 11:49:

this is supposed to mean? if it doesnt mean what i thought it meant i cant see its fvcking relevance? dont necessarily put the blame for misunderstanding it at my feet sunshine.

You made it seem it was allowable under the laws. I was pointing out that it probably wasn't and it was being investigated and may be rectified (which you did leave out, maybe to try to push your point?). That is all.

Its not a matter of the laws having nothing to do with it, they most probably do by reducing the protections for workers and the employers taking it too far (ie abuse).

lol @ ghey hijack.

18 is legal age for marriage in AU. Age of consent is a lil different, and age of smoking pot is dependent on which state you are in.

ah yes cando, is she still in oz?

No pot is illegal, but culturally it's quite widespread and reasonably tolerated. Cops used to catch me and my friends smoking, they'd tell us to put it out and let us off with a warning then just tell us to go smoke it at someone's house where they won't have to come and hassle us.

Legal driving age: 18 in most places (I believe)
Legal drinking age: 18
Age of consent: 18 (though can consent to sex with someone not more than two years older than you at 16).
Voting age: 18

Not sure what the deal with immigration is or what the requirements are to apply for differnet classes of visa or Permanent Residence or for Citizenship.

we live in one of the best countries in the world, we have so much to be thankfull for and so much to do. Our largest problem at the moment is John Howard being in power and not having an opposition leader capable of taking him on. Recent changes made by Howard are predicted to hurt the battling Aussie. However at the same time we have an amazing culture and a friendly society for the majority. Being a youth worker i see the dark side, however none of my friends ever seem to notice it. The EDM scene is healthy and growing in strength and i wouldnt hesitate in saying that it is coming close to being one of the best dance music cities in the world. Come to Melbourne and i can promise you will never want to leave.

yeah I've been REEEEALLY looking at Melbourne or Sydney, it will all depend on the work situation and how easy/difficult the whole visa/residency process is going to be

youre right. IF i had heaps of money i would be a lot happier. alas...

for the record, the age of consent is 16 in every state and territory except tas and (i believe) south australia where it is 17. i think though that if youre a homo the age is 18.
