100 days off is awesome. Dinosaur adventure 3D, 2 monts off and mo move are easily as good as the stuff they did with emerson. I saw them about a year ago in LA and it was easily one of the best shows ive ever been to. they rocked!

Holy old thread batman

undeworld played ultra during wmc 2003 post emerson, but they put on the best fucking show. it was the highlight of ultra for me. it sucks that emerson took off but i think they could make some good music.

after all, they are underworld and they are fucking legendary. they made some great fucking tracks that were always far ahead of their time....in fact, are still timeless. born slippy, Rez etc was the reason i got into dance music when I did.

I was at that show as well, and it was bar none the best live performance I ever experienced. Probably the best performance of the festival, DJs included. There wasn't a soul in the amphitheater that wasn't into it. I will always remember.

I find it really funny that people posting in this thread back in 2002 claimed Underworld was done and over without Emerson. On the contrary, 100 Days Off was easily on par with the previous albums. And thank goodness, too.

yeah.. i was there too.. awesome performance indeed.. i was at their nyc show few months before ultra but i'll you.. ultra was a compressed, more banging, energetic version of the nyc show..

how do they sound live?

The place was simply electric during Dinosaur Adventure 3D. Most people wern't that familiar with it yet, so the track really hit the place strong. Such a fantastic production to perform live, and the sound quality was flawless.

Awesome. I was really very surprised how well Karl Hyde did; he became the focus of the show, rather than simply an accessory like other EDM vocal performances. You could tell that he really had his soul in what he was doing. The production work itself isn't very different from the album verions, but has a cleaner, deeper, fuller sound than simply playing out a record.

If you ever get the opportunity to see them, I highly recommend it. Underworld seems to really strike a chord across the different subcultures of EDM alike.

Ironic that it became their most popular, because it's rather different from everything else they've done, and far from their best, from a tranceaddict perspective.

have they done live acts lately??? would you compare them to chemical brothers??? i saw them live in london a few years back

Posted by DarkFall01 on Mar-15-2005 06:23:

Underworld kicks ass, they were one of the artists that got me into EDM (together with Juno Reactor). I'd love to see them live sometime, kinda hard here in NY though

Posted by nrjizer on Mar-15-2005 06:37:

I still think they're great without Emerson. That Ultra 5 performance was just insane... Dino Adventure 3D, Mo' Move, and especially that extra long performance of Twist were every bit as good as their other works.

I was disappointed with their last album and I think we have heard the best of Underworld unfortunately. I don't think they will ever come close to matching their first three albums.

cowgirl is excellent

but Jumbo, and Juanita are the shibby,

Posted by Prototrance on Mar-15-2005 12:37:

Always loved Underworld, got all the albums and most of the singles. They have maintained an excellent sound post-Emerson. I disagree that Emerson was the 'real' brains behind the group. I believe it was always about Hyde & Smith with Emerson handling the more live side of things.

Best tracks:-

Pearls girl
Oich Oich (B side from the pearls girl single)
Sola Sistim
Banstyle/sappys curry

These are just bootlegs, I reckon. For quality remixes check, get the single... I'm the proud owner of one

Got Everything, Everything as well... perfect

Encoring with 'Moaner'[which was expected cuz this is their signature encore choon..] was the icing on the cake.. my all time fav. underworld track.. they played a solid 2+ hr set.. after they were done, i didnt even want to stay for pvd..lol started to leave as pvd's cd started skipping like there was no tomorrow....

Posted by nrjizer on Mar-15-2005 16:45:

Don't forget 8-ball

Posted by Magnetonium on Mar-15-2005 16:55:

I a huge Underworld fan, own several of their CDs, livesets and many tracks and remixes.

My fav tunes include "Cowgirl", "Born Slippy", "Jumbo", "Cups", "Pearls Girl", "Moaner", "Two Months Off", etc ...

Posted by RickyM on Mar-15-2005 17:13:

I recently got into Underworld, after buying their 1991-2002 CD

My favourite tunes are:

Rez, Cowgirl, Jumbo, Dark Train and King of Snake

They are fucking class. Born Slippy is good for the club, but it does get a bit annoying listening to it in the house!

IMO......any "dj" that plays Born Slippy is a fucking twat.I feel only emerson can drop that beast....bcoz he made the fuckin thing

Personally, I think Born Slippy (or the Nuxx version at least) is just an inferior take on Leftfield's Open Up. It's an incredibly simple track- there isn't even a bassline, and it just bangs away for the duration. Sure the vocal performance is hypnotic, but it's not too far from Hyde's vocals on other Underworld tracks.
