I know exactly how you feel! I've moved around quite a bit and have often gone out raving alone. But if you're a little bit warm and friendly, meeting new people is never a problem. We all know that the people in these parties are usually quite friendly and not pretencious at all.
I moved to Winnipeg 2 1/2 months ago not knowing a person in this city. Now I got a gf and hang out with a bunch of fellow TAs. Just follow the threads and you'll see there's often people in the same boat as you. Just gotta find em.
Hang in there!

As a girl TA I've HAD to go to some shows alone coz I would be caught dead missing a DJ I HAD to see. Simple. So I got used to going to shows solo, but usually meet a few people everytime. Also when the tunes are THAT loud, you can't really have a conversation anyway. I was a bit concerned going alone at first coz of the girl thing... but I got over it quickly. Often I end up having the best nights evar and never regret going but would have regretted not going.
Don't worry about the solo female thing. Just use your common sense! Take a taxi directly to/from the club if necessary. Take it easy on the drinking/chemicals. Also make sure someone knows where you have gone - a friend, parent or if you are out of town the front desk at the hotel/hostel.
I'm in Orlando/Miami for 10 days in May and that is not going to stop me from going out!!! Especially in Miami!
everyone has very good points here and i thought i would add my 2 cents.. all the love of the music. big dj, big music, in there solo or not. Woot!

I use to go clubbing by myself all the time. I go for the music, not for the company. As someone said about me, I didn't even talk to the people I go there with! It was too loud to have conversation anyways.
Mind you, it was a different situation because I'll run into someone I know at the club, but at the same time, you go out often enough, you'll see the same people and eventually get to know them enough to talk to them a bit. I know what you mean though because it did take awhile for me to have the confidence to go by myself.
TIP: Start by going out by yourself on weekdays, when there's less people and less meatheads.

When I first moved to Ottawa I would meet a whole bunch of people in the lineup. Great way to hang with a bunch of girls as they will take you on as a friend most times.
Hey dude when I was 17 and in high school I started going to afterhours alone sober every weekend to hear my favorite DJ's spin. Technically I wasnt alone though because I would chill with TA's that I sa there, I don't see whats stopping u from doing the same.
