Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing sprit- crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing you last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that?... I chose not to choose life, I chose something else. And the reason? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got heroin?

Excellent film, RObert Carlyle is hilarious as Begbie. Begbie is like the british version of Tommy in goodfellas, a psychotic nutcase who takes no shit.

The music is great in the film too.

If you have yet to see this movie, something is badly wrong. Best Brit movie ever...

Rented it once, stopped watching half way through. I thought it was retarded because it only focused on the drug use and nothing else.

i remenber i watched it when i was 16 or 17 and loved it ...then i watched a movie from the same director called "acid house" it freaked me out and i don't think i will ever watch it again ....this movie is just disturbing

You didn't think drug use was a big enough issue to base a movie on? Many great films deal largely with one issue, or explore one particular subculture or lifestyle (in this case, the lifestyle of a junkie).

True there are great films that deal with that but I just felt it tried to hard and was over the top. I was pretty young when I tried to watch it(16/17 and to be honest it made me uncomfortable watching it) maybe Ill give it another try someday.

Has anyone even bothered to read Irvin Welsh's "Trainspotting" or "Porno"???

Trainspotting was probably the most anti-drug book (and even movie) that I've ever seen. The movie did not condone drug use - it showed a picture of what it looks like.

The book was not nearly as "funny" as the movie. Reading some of the scenes was like taking a punch to the gut. Very cool book, if you can get past an occasional Sconglish (Scottish English) style of writing and slang.

Example: gunnae = going to
chuffed = broke
bairn = baby

and other words. there was actually a mini-dictionary at the back of the book.

Porno - is a part 2, trainspotting 10 years down the road. A lot more funnier and It's definitely deserving of being made into a movie.

The soundtrack to the movie was classic and definitely added to the overall flavor. If you want to experience the actual impact of the message, I would suggest reading the book first, as the movie takes away from the imagery of the book.

BTW, I remember seing a movie and then only 2 weeks later hearing "Born Slippy" played live in Twilo by PvD - I will never forget that moment. Place went insane and I still get chills down my spine everytime I think about it.

loved the movie.. i love the ending too when he goes clean.. most drug movies always end badly but it ended with hope and thats hard for junkies to end on a good note lol..

It didn't explicitly condone drug use, but it didn't condemn it either. I disn't see the book or the mocie as being very anit or pro drugs. It objectively portrayed the life of a heroin junkie. It portrayed facts that almost everyone on both sides of the drug debate know. I don't think there was an anti-drug message in the book or the movie at all.

To tell you the truth, though it was quite graphic and visceral, it didn't shock me with the facts it presented. I can imagine someone that led quite a sheltered existance finding it very shocking.
