Which is exactly what I said. Did you read the rest of my post?

How can you say it's the truth? He obviously has lots of competition b/c there are plenty of other good bars in Toronto that are bringing in great DJs as well.
First example of competition...all of the people going to Above & Beyond the same night as the grand opening of Sonic.

As for the sound system, no one's heard it yet...so I can't say anything about that.

I'm not saying that I won't go to Sonic b/c of what he said. I still am very much interested in this club and think it's going to be great. Morales has every right to be proud of something that he's put a lot of work into and is guaranteed to shine. I just think there's a fine line between confidence and cockiness

yea no competition. just a huge megaclub thats been in operation for 10 years and its younger brother of a club that seem to be able to book whomever they want pretty much whenever they want while cockblocking everyone else in town. not to mention places like footwork + etc ...

as for his name oh it means alot to me ... the name david morales is synonymous with cheese

ps. i wonder if he has any new mariah carey or whitney houston rmxes out now?

please.

BABABABABABA I was thinking the same thing. Though in reality, if I heard those tracks, I'd probably love it! Haha

Posted by geroin on Apr-24-2006 21:39:

ok so the guy has confidence and cockiness but who gives a shit?
the club will definately be something else and hes proud of it
yes there is competition but sonic will always bring the crowd in no matter what, many people hate guv and hate the "clubdisrict".
also some of the dj's sonic has booked in the past and in the present will probably never get booked at the guv.
there are many pluses so stop all your useless whining about what he said in the paper.

Posted by simplemind on Apr-24-2006 22:07:

I want to hear the "Best Sound" and see what hes all about, now that he lost his engineer, the guy who gave him that sound in Montreal.

But since he says its the best, and HIS name is Money, I expect nothing less than super spectacular.

Posted by bryans05 on Apr-24-2006 22:44:

When David says his name is money...all he means is that there is no budget for the perfect club. Sound is his #1 priority...and he has made it clear that he will spend anything to have the best. At Stereo in montreal he has constanly put in money to upgrade the sound / lights over the years, as well as other renovations. Here in T.O he has an opportunity to build the perfect club...and I am convinced it will be amazing. He may have lost shorty as sound engineer, but Stereo is surviving without him and so will Sonic...

the guy has had his sucesses. Yeah it was kind of crass how it was put, but his name is money and he has successful venues to back him up on that claim.

I hope he can do for toronto what stereo did for montreal.

Posted by shanny on Apr-24-2006 23:39:

I think crass as it may be, this comment will actually work to his advantage. Its causing extra publicity just in the amount people will be talking about it.
I'll bet for every person that gets turned off by his comment, there will be two who want to see what the hell he's bragging about.

I think this could be true. A lot of people may go thinking "He thinks he's hot shit...let's see if he can actually deliver"

Posted by Sly_Guy on Apr-24-2006 23:59:

Yeah, that's pretty cocky to say, but really, the man operates or at least used to operate stereo at a loss simply because he wanted that club to be his home away from home, and make it the best clubbing experience possible.

That being said, he's created a world reknowned club in that city where DJs around the world will put it on their lists of 'must play' simply to prove themselves in front of an eager, knowledgable and up for it crowd.

Yeah, so what if his comments rub people the wrong way? Stereo isn't for the timid, and sonic won't be either. It's going to be a club for those who know, not for the average 10-2 clubber, and none of those will be scared away because he runs his mouth.

Yeah, but have you been to Stereo recently? It sounds really bad, and really hurts your ears.

Posted by bryans05 on Apr-25-2006 00:05:

i haven't been to stereo in a few months, but remember it usually sounding great...I say usually, cuz it did happen where dj's would get too aggressive in the booth and play it too loud, to the point of hurting your ears. Most of the resident dj's know how to play the system well

B

Posted by fairy godfather on Apr-25-2006 00:11:

I am certainly not impressed with the bullshit coming out of that place so far. I really don't think most people are going to want to buy tickets on line, with a service charge, erevey week. Too much hastle!

I loved the old Boa for it's informal, simplistic setting where the music was number one.

Going to give this place a look on opening night and decide from there whether it will be my regular Saturday hang out!

p.s. Not surprised to read Morales comments...I hear he is quite the micro manager too!

yeah, Stereo sounded amazing, and its known for its sound. But since Shorty left, its really bad. I dont mean its not quite as amazing but still good, I mean it really, really sounds bad in there.

They keep saying they are going to get it taken care of, but its been almost a month now and it still hasnt been fixed.

I never complained about my ears hurting before, but I am now.

lol..serious after hours competition?

link

his name might not mean fuck all to u,i dont like his shit much either, but hes still one of the most sucessful house djs/producers ever. and his name is definately money, both in marketing and in what he can afford to put into his club.

Perhaps! It works for some, not for others.
Some people loved when Morales got carried out in a THRONE to the DJ booth at stereo on his birthday and they chanted, KING DAVID! KING DAVID! Others were so turned off, they left the club altogether.

Posted by Jayx1 on Apr-25-2006 00:38:

the thing is toronto doesnt know a good thing when it sees it.

Weve been spoiled with countless world class clubs in the last 15 years yet all you ever hear are complaints and attitude. (unless its from a promoter of said establishment of course) I expect the same with this new place no matter how cool or shitty it may be.

lol so a gta area of 7/8 million or whatever it is has 2 serious after hours clubs and a couple small ones. now compare that with any other major city, mate.

Posted by jon jon on Apr-25-2006 01:04:

lol

Posted by fairy godfather on Apr-25-2006 01:06:

It will be interesting to see how the numbers work. They will only be open one night a week, with no liquor...they will be relying only on "cover".

The Old Boa could not survive open two night a week, and let's face it, they always tried to bring in good talent over the two years they were in operation.

People in this town don't want to spend money on Cover like they do in other big cities...like Montreal for example and that could be a big problem for Sonic.
