I'm still trying to put together a somewhat decent review, but one thing I didn't like was the way Funky Summer sounds by itself going through the whole set...I think it's a really cool idea, I just didn't like the way it worked with (most of) the rest of the tracks I guess.

That said, the way the little bits of Circles and Funky Summer sound together is fucking amazing, I like it alot when both are going together...especially when those two and I Want Your Body and Drop the Beat are going...

I'll try to patch a better review together shortly thanks for the mix, enjoying it!

Thanks, took the photos myself (as usual)

Farley, werd...like I said, this was more a for fun mix...I just kinda let loose and had fun with my new controller, rather than planned anything really solid. Glad you enjoyed it for the most part though

dorset perception --> do what you want

loved this transition. it fit well harmonically.

Hmm...upon further review, this set needed more Daft Punk.

hmmm why did I not see this? Listening now.

Posted by Ted Promo on May-05-2006 12:23:

Finally giving it a listen Not bad thus far, my only complaint is with the transition around the 27m mark. It's beatmatched perfectly due to appletr0n, but it just felt like it took forever to begin the next track. It spent too much time waddling around in the beat phase if you catch my drift. I got about a little less than half an hour left

Posted by plaxx on May-08-2006 03:36:

what a brilliant mix. VERY enjoyable imo, love the loop from audiofly - circles, goes nicely throughout the mix.

defo a summer mix, and great for a drive or just chillin out with some friends.

btw, can somone make a cue for this?

haha, clovis i was looking into buying the x-session, it was on ebay, new, for $50, but i lost it in the last 3 minutes cuz i fell asleep...

how is it?

Hopefully I'll have an official cue up soon, I usually just do the auto 5 min one though...

Posted by spc on May-16-2006 06:31:

well, i've listened to it a few times and i love it. if this was a mixed cd in the stores i would definitely pick it up

my only complaint is that with ur elite appletr0n skills i found it hard to make a cue file

i got impatient so i made my own (crappy) attempt at a cue file:

That was my favorite part. We listened to his mix on our way to Coachella and when that track kicked in I couldn't help but sing along

Mr. Clovis, to be honest I was very disappointed in this mix not because it wasn't a quality piece of work but I just wasn't feelin the tracks. I still play your Drop Deep mix once in a while and I think great mixes stand the test of time but Stonedacion 2 is unfortunately not the case.

Your first track was a very good appetizer as I like to call track 1s and the mood it set got me excited considering Dee Drop started this way too. Tthe 2nd track absolutely blew me away, I could not focus on my work throughout the entire track because the bassline and that weird grinding beat was fantastic and kept me engaged. But then you started to lose steam. The transition to the 3rd track was slightly ackward but I forgave it once the meat of the song kicked in. Circles gave me hope yet again that your 2nd half would be a strong finisher but as we rolled into the middle of your set, the mass conga beats, swirling melodies that actually clashes with the main song and the occasional vocal stabs caused more confusion for me than anything else. I started to zone out, not paying attention and that's when I realized these (at least to me) are filler tracks. I understand the structure of your mix but the middle section's "mood" dragged on for too long, I read that you were looping a track throughout the set so maybe that was it. I was also disappointed at the use of Dorset Perception at that juncture int he mix as it did not match with the previous song at all and it was sped up way too much. The vocal track after Dorset Perception gave the mix a bit more body and another side of its personality but not enough to save the mix as a whole.

Overall I only give his mix 7.5/10. Your command of Ableton is very strong and some parts of the mix made my head bob. But the meat of your mix lacked personality, vibrance or a signature. It's just droning away with some tropical funk, loungy, spacey influences. It's cool to dance to but unlike Drop Deep's tracks, they aren't memorable.

I hope you don't take this critique the wrong way, you are a fantastic talent and one of my top 3 on the TA boards so I look forward to your next mix.

Thanks alot Dj Rain, I am fully aware of the problems you mention, and I am glad that you noticed them. Like I said, this was more for fun and "the moment" than drop deep, which I thought about before hand a little more. This was more of a test of my new ableton toy, and after a few more tests like these I think I will be able to pull some tracks together to make something more memorable and complete.

Thank you guys for listening, and thanks spc for the cue
