wow.

and to think that the sound wasn't even at 100% lastnight - i really cant wait to hear it on saturday! sorry to those who had to wait until 8pm to get in, it took a full team effort to get the place ready... mops were out in full force!! lol

place looks and feels phenomenal. the hardwood floors gave the sound such a warm feel, and although i'm not a fan of 'typical' lighting in most clubs.... this lighting system is top notch, and is very soft - not blinding by any means. every detail has been looked after, from the overall flow (coatcheck downstairs, no stage, two way traffic up and down, etc), right down to the decor.

it was funny, it was so perfect that i started really trying to think of 'little' ideas to even further enhance things, and well - this is what i came up with.

- build a wall outside that is level to the entrance to the patio. it will soundproof it just enough so come summertime, some 'sunrise' sets can be had in the outdoor environment.

- put a 4' high transparant ledge along the sides and front of the dj booth. i saw lots of people putting their drinks on it, and made me nervous to think of one spilling on that amazing gear in the booth!

i'll let the brilliant minds behind this entire operation think of anything else.... and honestly, if they left it the way it is - its still the best club venue i have EVER set foot in.

thank you so much to the insane effort put into getting this into gear. i thought there would be no way they could pull off this kind of result when i saw the place four days ago. David, Nevio, Carey, Jennstar, Aktar and his crew, and the rest of the Sonic family - we have something very special here, i thank you all so much.

now - the wait begins for saturday......

Ok, so I was like the most wasted I've ever been in my life. BABAB I'm sure pictures will prove this...

- hardwood floor is the sickness
- lights are insanity, very NYC
- back end of club is uber swank
- sound was killer
- the inside of the booth... MOTHA FUCKA!

I'm gonna miss not having a downstairs room, or the stage in the back. But fuck I'm anxious to see this place in action. I think Saturday will be the crazies.

Good work Sonic team!!!

Copying and pasting this directly from tribe...
Nat, I am looking forward to your pics!

I thought there were a lot of people there last night that were just there because it was *the* place to go last night and was invite only. People who looked like they would have been as excited had been standing in line at mc donalds rather than standing inside this brand new, gorgeous temple of a night club.

That said, the club looks incredible. The dancefloor is what struck me the most. It is big, almost reminded me of a gymnastics floor, but yet it didn't seem too big and every part of it still seemed connected to the DJ. I'm not sure how the specs of the floor vs. booth has changed, but finally there's the right balance and distance between them.

I enjoyed the tiered levels behind the DJ booth. Nice seating and the details were perfect - the lighting fixtures, candles, etc. The room felt warm at only about 70% full.

Patio was a nice addition for the smokers, and i hope as the summer approaches they do something to make it a little more inviting because I'm sure as sunrise gets earlier and earlier, it will be a nice little place to hangout towards the end of the night.

I'm curious what's going to happen with the old lounge space - there's some seating, the same washrooms, and an area used for a bar last night...but it felt sort of cold, and if I was spending a whole night there I probably wouldn't chill out down there because it seemed like more of a passthrough area. (which is perhaps the intent)

but for the love of all that is decent, please please change those blacklights on the dancefloor. It is such a beautiful dancefloor, but blacklights are so 90's. I felt like I was stepping back in time to my first all ages nightclub. there is no way I could spend an entire night dancing when everyone's teeth and nose look neon! lol

Overall, best thing toronto has seen in quite some time IMO.

Actually I didn't think the sound was that great but my expectations were obviously really high.

I've heard that space sound better. I'm looking forward to hearing the final product.

i spoke with morales early in the night, and he confirmed the sound wasnt complete or even really tweaked or adjusted (which is ultimately why he didn't end up spinning).

Posted by Tordan on Apr-28-2006 14:07:

^^ that's good to hear. b/c I was thinking the sound was good but it could be a lot better. i hope they have things properly configured by the time c&c hits the decks. w00t w00t!!
