i had been spinning for only 5 months seriously when i got my first gig at Spundae Los Angeles last october. I recently got to play there again back in April. I have a bunch of gigs lined up for the next couple of weeks here in my hometown. =)

I started in November and have been doing gigs since mid January. I guess I caught on quick (serato scratch did help a lot too) I played during the setbreaks of my friends band and progressed slowly... now I am the house dj at a club (rumorsaltoona.com) where i spin mostly house music and I play twice a week at the 4d's which is the "hot spot" and i do the rap/hip hop thing there... There was only one other guy spinning wax in Altoona and when he heard I was he took me under his wing. he was impressed when he saw me and couldnt believe i just started (and taught myself) I guess i caught on quick and knew the right people. I make decent money and have fun doing it ~ livin the dream!!

i agree with what you said about knowing the right people. its not just about skills, but a big factor is in who you know.
