That's really cool of him. Why is he doing this? Switched completely over to CDs? |
It was time to get rid of some of the stuff he doesn't / won't play anymore. He's getting rid of about 1/2 of the collection so he still has about 2000 records i think. Some of the records up for sale are promos that were sent that he never played, but there are a lot of gems there that he had doubles of so it makes sense to only keep one copy moving forward.
He's been playing all CD for almost 2 years now

haha, BBQ!
I will bring my headphones for sure!
This is bad, recording shopping without having turn tables, or any place to play them. lol.
Thats what I get for being a music collector.

Unless they were uber cheap, i wouldnt be able to afford it at this point in life. I'm honestly just buying them now, so I have copies for when I eventually get decks.
An enquiry won't hurt though
Thanks!

If you purchased a CD, track, or vinyl, and then you sell it off for $$$, but you're KEEPING a digital copy for yourself (on your computer or on a CDR), is this any different than one person buying a track then sharing it with a friend illegally?
...Because even though the track is being sold to another, the original person is still keeping a copy for themselves (in digital form). Isn't that just the same as ppl sharing MP3s of songs they have with their friends?? (other than the fact both individual are paying in this situation)
If the original person is going to hang on to it still, then really, the artist isn't getting his or her due since now 2 ppl own/possess a copy of the track - yes both paid for it, but the artist/label/whoever only received money from ONE individual.

What are your thoughts here, RJ? I'm merely curious about this matter of point once I thought about it after reading this post since Lisa said Max made digital copies of some of them.
I'm interested to hear some takes on the matter.
EDIT:
To sum up in short: Does one have the right to keep a copy for themselves of a track that they are selling to another individual?

Nor to me. It was merely a matter of that thought never crossing my mind... I'd never contemplated such a situation before, the propriety of it before, and in such times on this board where many seem to post very strongly their disapproval about such things as illegal music, I wanted to see what others thought, if my train of thought (logic) was valid or if I was completely missing some other unseen point....
I'm not trying to criticize your actions, just trying to see how others viewed this situation as I'd explained it, why it wouldn't bother them in this case, as illegal music is such a hot topic generally... (but in this context I'd bet most wouldn't' think twice or be concerned... I'm interested in such ways of thinking for curiosity's sake)
