It's really a gamble. If enough people want to fork over the cash, then it won't be readily available, if not, then you just wasted your money.

| Originally posted by Porky think about this yan.... most ppl want to buy a new blue-ray player and this will be the cheapest one available. also, most EB games stores will more than likely refund your deposit if you don't want to buy it. you don't think the PS3 will instantly sell out with last minute buyers camping out at bestbuys the night before? the ps3 has 'XMAS HOTCAKES' stamped all over it. |
Wooow. They look
. Glad they changed the controller back. I know a few people who manage / work at gamings stores so between that and online purchase I'm going to try my best to get at least 2 consoles
.
... and then take my ass straight to Ebay right before Xmas!

| Sales record When the PlayStation 2 launched in Japan in March 2000, Sony sold 980,000 units over the opening weekend. [11] When the PlayStation 2 launched in America in October 26, 2000, Sony sold 510,000 units within the first 24 hours making it an average of selling 5-6 consoles per second. With a price of $299.99 per console, Sony made gross sales of roughly $153,000,000. To this day, the PS2 holds the record for the most consoles sold in a single day as well as the record for most consoles sold in launch day in America. PS2's opening day console sales eclipsed the previous record of 225,000 made by the Sega Dreamcast in 1999. The PlayStation 2 shipped 1.41 million units in its first four weeks on sale, and reached the 10 million unit mark in under 13 months. The 50 million point was hit on 15th January 2003, less than 3 years after launch. The PlayStation 2 holds the record of fastest selling video game console ever, 100 million PlayStation 2 units were shipped in only five years and nine months, shattering the previous record of nine years and six months by the PlayStation. | Originally posted by Yan I can only hope you're right. A shortage isn't almost always guaranteed. |

2 million PS3s will be available during the initial launch window, another 2 million will be shipped before the end of 2006, and finally another 2 before March 31st.
Looking at the numbers, I think a shortage is almost guarenteed with this thing. Sony plans to have 2 million ready for the launch, and another 2 million ready by the end of the year. So if they don't have any supply hiccups - which seem to happen more often than not with new game consoles - we're looking at 4 million units available worldwide by the end of the year.
Since it's a worldwide launch, we'll be looking at about 40% of units ending up in Japan, 40% in the US, and the rest in Europe and Australasia. So, that means the US will get something like 1.6 million units with 800k at launch and another 120k trickling in weekly after that.
Will there be 800k initial and 120k weekly buyers in the US willing to shell out $500-600? During the holiday season, I definitely think so.
If we look at the Xbox 360 launch, Microsoft sold about 900k 360s in the US in the last 5 weeks of the year and this was with a supply shortage. If Microsoft had ample supply, they could have easily sold 2 million consoles here in that same time period. I know Microsoft had the first mover advantage so high demand was to be expected but its installed base of previous generation buyers/fans was about a quarter the size of Sony's and its launch titles weren't exactly stellar. Also keep in mind that the majority of those 360s were sold in bundles that cost over $500.

i don't think you guys understand how revolutionary the cell architecture is. it has 9 fucking processors on the chip. this is an asston of calcuation power. granted they're simplistic dies, but they hav ea 74gb/s bus all across the chip. its its own little supercomputer in about 1.5 square centimeters.
imagine an army of 5000 highly detailed orcs running into an army of 5000 highly detailed gnomes all with their own ai script and individual realistic physical traits.
and oh yeah render that in real time and be able to pick any view / spot on the battlefield you want.
that may not happen in the first revision of games but it will happen eventually on the ps3. unfucking believeable.
this console is going to be like the jump from atari to playstation.
only thing is i'd suggest everyone wait for the 2nd revision of ps3's they are usually much more stable and reliable then the first batch. it gives time for sony to fix all of the production problems. and this console won't be any different.

Sony is notorious for it's first generation products being filled with bugs and glitches, although they do make excellent products.

all i gotta say is.... DEVIL MAY CRY 4!!!!
I have to jump in here, this is too hot. If you read Sony press release they plan to ship 10,000 to 208 companies in Nov. That would equal a little over 2,000,000 units.
I spoke with a DM at EBGames and he says that more then like EBGames/Gamestop will only get about 25000-30000 units for their over 9000 stores for Nov. Which means that each store might get only 3-5 units, and some might not get any at all. They might have to do a lottery on who gets the units. That's not fact, just his speculation.
My ass is camping out for this. Hell freakin yeah.
For those who think the PS3 is expensive, slashdot did a great comparison between the 360 costs and PS3:
XBox 360 with 20GB hard drive ($400) + HD-DVD drive addon ($100?) + 5 years XBox Live ($250) = $750.
Playstation 3 with 20GB hard drive ($500) + Bluray drive (included) + 5 years online (included) = $500.
Did I mention that PS3 comes with 5 years online?
See you all in line...

I was checking the channel G4 on my cable box (Channel 175). The people from X-Play were showing some footage from E3 and I also looked on IGN.
First I want to mention that my brother called EB earlier this afternoon and they said pre-orders will begin at the end of this week.
I saw a video from IGN of Heavenly Sword. This was an in-game demonstration. All I could say is "wow." I uploaded the video. You can view it here.
For some reason, I believe that what was shown of Killzone at the Tokyo Game Show was indeed realtime. I only say that because Heavenly Sword in Real-time is like playing CG on the PS2. That amazing!
I heard about a 15 minute trailer of MGS4 that is going to be on IGN when the day is over. I won't mind uploading that and a few other videos on the next post if you guys are interested
