I have been saying that I want to check out Tobermorey for years, but unfortunely have not.

Anybody been there?

Used to have a cottage right outside of Tobermorey, on Miller's lake. Awesome area. Tobermorey is sweet if you're into scuba diving. I like that area because its close to awesome clifs (georgian bay side) and beaches (huron side).

cypress lake or bruce penisula national park, just south of tobermory...the water is freezing, but it is incredibly beautiful, and most important, great rock-jumping. There are also underwater grottos, good hiking, a shallow beach area, dog swim. It is (i think) the leading area in Ontario for scuba diving, due to the grottos and wrecks off the coast. Tobermory is 20 mins away. very quaint village, with some great touristy shops, restaurants and a harbour for charters.

I have been there as well. Best camping experience of my life. And that was 3 years ago. If enough people are interested I'm up for another trip there.

So Simon and I were just talking about planning a TOTA camping weekend in Algonquin Park in a few weeks or so. Who is up for it?

Not parks fault

actually it is the parks fault.
It seems like those rangers are obsessed with over enforcement (power trip)

last weekend at sandbanks the guy gave me a parking ticket because we arrived after the gates were closed and couldnt obtain a permit. after some arguing at the front gate they finally took it back.

also my sisters site got a ticket for the site being "too messy" even though they had it clean in like 5 min flat.

i was just up in Tobermory last weekend and it was spectacular! Mako - it IS in fact known as the canadian scuba diving capital and yes there are numerous shipwrecks around the peninsula.

i was also at the Elora Quarry last weekend and it was great to go swimming there. i don't know about the liquor laws but it seemed like everyone there was drinking including me!

if anything, i'd like to go back to the Bruce Peninsula. on the drive up there there are quite a few provincial parks right along the shores of lake huron and they are super nice! on the other hand i would also like to check out algonquin park. i was there in the winter and had a fantastic time. just BEAUTIFUL!!!

if we want to organize a TA camping trip, count me in!

Elora Quarry

unfortunately i don't have pics of Tobermory b/c when we got there it was pouring rain. but i'm going back for another road trip in august to attend a wedding on Manitoulin Island so we'll we passing through Tobermory again to catch the ferry over there. really looking forward to it b/c we didn't have nearly enough time to check out this incredibly gorgeous area.

no no. the park was open, it was 2am so the front booth was closed and no way of obtaining the permits.

Campig in Tobermorry = PURE AWESOMENESS!

We often will even camp a little further south, 30 mins away in Miller Lake where we can be louder and more ridiculous while drinking all night/day w/o worrying about the OPP or easily annoyed "family" campers. And we'll make a fucking day of going to Tobermory, taking the trails to the cliffs, or taking the Ferry, whatever.

LOTS to do and see! The cliffs and trails are BEAUTIFUL up there!
