Hmmm for me this is a very difficult question.

I'm going to have to say:

Super Castlevania IV

Very close runner ups for me would be:

Super Ghouls n Ghosts
Contra III Alien Wars

I still play those games to this day from time to time. They never get old to me.

Also FF3 was good but my memory of it is so faded. I just remember I loved it.

anyone played Tales of Phantasia?

Posted by Moongoose on May-13-2006 12:52:

Ive finished it about two weeks ago. Not bad, but i dont really like the fighting system. Controlling Cless is ok but man those other blokes do things their own way no matter what you tell them to do. Werry annoying.

Theres also an 4 episode anime OVA of tales of phantasia. Its starts with the battle on the planes of Midgard and ends with dhaos getting his ass kicked Its not the best piece of anime out there but if you liked the game its worth the look.

Posted by Final Call on May-13-2006 13:23:

yeah i've seen them..i actually liked it =)

This was the most advanced RPG SNES has ever made

Look at these gorgeous screenshots:

You were able to play with THREE characters; you had several magic spells at your command, and there were also 8 different weapons
And on top of that it had a giant world map.

Just can't believe this game
I happened to play it again last week; hehe. Yesterday I finished it

that game looks very nice! i love those old skool rpg's. my personal favorite for the snes was mortal kombat. cant remember wich one exact.

Posted by Omega_Blue on May-15-2006 20:25:

everybody, listen to me.

the BEST RPG for the SNES was FF3.

you guys are missing some really great games-

Tales of Phantasia
Star Ocean
Earthbound
Super Punch-Out!!
Secret of Evermore
Secret of Mana 2 (Seiken Densetsu 3)
Chrono Trigger
Illusion of Gaia
Terranigma (sequel-ish to illusion of gaia)

of course, super metroid and zelda, street fighter 2 turbo, megaman x.

i'd have to say that these are the best games for the SNES ever made. everyone should play these if you get the chance.

I <3 the SNES

It's about a young blonde guy (Will) who posesses telekinetic powers; and he can turn into a Dark Knight (Freedan).... and so on

It was a cool game actually

Never played earthbound; thats the game with Ness ??

That's Illusion of Gaia, actually. Improperly titled.

Yes it is.

Illusion of Time is the European name while in America it was called Illusion of Gaia.
FF3 in the US was the japanese FF6.
Terranigma was only Europe/Japan and never made it to America.

Favourite SNES games for me were:

Super Mario World
Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island
Secret Of Mana
Secret of Mana 2
Megaman X
Terranigma
Plok! - i could never finish this as there were no saves when you switched the SNES off. irritating but for some reason I didn't mind going through the levels over and over
Zelda A Link to the Past
Super Bomberman 2 - it got rubbish when they included animals on 3 so u had more chances on the multiplayer.
International Superstar Soccer Deluxe

Huh! You learn something new everyday.

The translated ROM is a must play title, though. Amazing game.

Posted by Pokit on May-15-2006 23:18:

other one's that i forgot to mention

MK 2 and 3
street fighter 2
turtles in time
bomberman

but super mario kart wins by a long shot

Another Pointless Gaming Fact:

Secret of Evermore was developed by Square's USA division as they thought that Secret of Mana 2 (Seinken Deknetsu 3) was too advanced and not action based for the American market. This is why Secret of Mana 2 was never released or many other Square games due to the US arm of their company. Square USA wanted all the kudos so didn't release these games as they wanted their development teams more known - remember Final Fantasy Mystic Quest?

I've heard all that before but a few months back I read this little bit on Wikipedia that clarified everything for me:

quote:
There is an unfortunately strong misconception among video game fans that this game was released in lieu of an English language version of Seiken Densetsu 3, the follow-up to Secret of Mana. These ill feelings probably stem from titular and mechanical similarities.

The reality is that Secret of Evermore was not released instead of or had any effect on any translations of Square's Japanese titles. The decision of its parent company, Square, Co. Ltd., to add a new development team to its existing Squaresoft office in Redmond had absolutely no effect on any such translations and did not tie up any of the people involved in translation. It was the parent company's decision not to continue translating titles, including the sequel to Secret of Mana.

Furthermore, Secret of Evermore was not made instead of any new titles in any existing series: Its team was specifically hired to create it and they would not have been assembled otherwise.

Chrono Trigger

I totally forgot about Earthbound. I was just playing that a couple months ago. I love that game.

yeah i was about to say the same thing, you know, about illusion of time or whatever. you don't even need a translated terranigma ROM, the european one is in english.

on a side note, a lot of people say secret of evermore was inferior to SoM and SD3, but imo it's much better than both. i loved going through different "time" periods and the roman trading market. the alchemy system was pretty cool too.

side note x2: it's funny how most of the greatest games for the SNES were RPGs. either that or we're all a bunch of RPG dorks.

i remember my friend playing "out of this world"

i loved playing wwf raw. lol funny game for some reason

1. SUPER BOMBERMAN 2

the ultimate party game, if you havn't played this with 4 player multi tap then you are missing out bigtime. my fav move is kick timing a bomb going horizontally across so that it is perfectly timed to blow up vertically to killl someone else... im so l33t!

2. Final fantasy 3

the opera scene. the BEST MUSIC BY NOBUO UEMATSU in the entire series (piano renditions of FF6 are so beautiful). epic story. awesome controls. so many characters... wow.

3. Zelda - Link to the Past

great gameplay. i wonder if my kids will play this when they grow up. only prob is that it was too easy.

4. Super street fighter 2

i remember dropping tons of quarters on SF2 in 1990. then when SF2 first came out on SNES, all my friends came over to play this for entire days straight. the feeling i got when i first got my copy was like opening xmas gifts multiplied by 100!

Super Metroid, dot dot

Posted by Push2005 on May-16-2006 10:11:

Hehe; but I don't play ROMS; I owe most of this game on my real SNES and still play it

Now; how about Secret Of Mana 2... I'm still confused about it. Is it called "Secret of Evermore"... I definately want to play that; hm, I'm gonna DL an emulator now anyway I guess

(Ow btw; can anyone recommend me, or give a link to, a good Playstation One Emulator... I wanna play FF9 )
