Your having a bubble bath mate, we've got more world class players that at any time in the past. England are going to win the group, rooney to return in the semi finals, then the real games will begin

Posted by zoric on May-27-2006 10:35:

Latest news on Sweden is that they've got a very strong team physically and it looks a lot better than in previous World Cup preparations.

I think Paraguay and Sweden will make it through to.

I have high hopes for England, although this year, being as I have known this many a time to happen, have prepared a cushion near my tv,ready to fall on my ass when something goes tits-up this tournament.
I reckon Paraguay are under-rated, suprise to all of you as it may seem, I say:

1. England
2. Paraguay

I think I'tll be close between Paraguay and Sweden all the way through, if one team puts on a better tperformance than England, then I will reckon the other team to aswell.
Who knows, my hope rests in Gerrard, I've loved watching this seasons games with him and Liverpool and I think with 3 England w.c players being at his club, I see him forming a good relationship on the pitch with the other players.
I'm glad we have players like him, and Beckham who are experienced and well known internationally, as they have alot of knowledge and should help theo and ... yeah, whatever his name is, Lennon, in their games, I think they'll play alot easier knowing they have such talent there to back them up, keep them motivated, and to act as a safety net when problems arise on the pitch.

Liverpool have Sissoko to protect the back four, so Stevie can pretty much play where he wants. This is where he's most dangerous.

With England, he has to mostly defend while fat Frank is given the freedom to attack.

England aren't going to win the cup with their top striker injured (even if he comes back for the knockout stage he's not going to be at top form you lunatic dreamers!), and half of their fantastic players overlapping themselves by playing all at the same position in the field. Sorry.

Trust me, Paraguay ARE going through, they're definitely quality. The question is who is leaving early, England or Sweden. Hard to tell, probably the swedes even if they have some players i really admire, like Ibrahimovic who is just spectacular and a Larsson that doesn't seem to age.

I don't see the retirement home of the tobaccans doing anything, being there is a dream for them already.

Posted by zoric on May-27-2006 17:56:

This is how I'm also thinking, most of you guys really want England to go through while their top striker isn't playing.

Someone from the midfield has to step up big time to help you guys out in this hard situation. England is going to suffer most likely by the fact that Rooney is injured.

I know that none of the teams are playing exceptionally good in their friendly games before the World Cup. But, Sweden has got a lot of problems on their RB, while Erik Edman has to be given a lot more games than just one single game to be in the form he was back in 2004 when he served Henrik Larsson and Zlatan Ibrahimovic with very good balls.

Sweden is going to be tough to win over, but still, They have to start performing. Something really tells me that Paraguay will win this group..

England if healthy are going to contend for the Cup but they just at healthy ATM....they will make it through the group but say they play a good team second round with no Rooney I will think they will not make it

I think they can beat a team like Germany or Poland without Rooney perhaps...but any country in the class of Italy, Brazil, HOlland, etc...well probably no. But they'll give it a good run. Only complete disaster is going to push England out before the QF in my opinion but we'll see.

Posted by fastmp3 on May-28-2006 07:18:

i think Sven should forget about Rooney and call somebody else

Posted by fastmp3 on May-28-2006 07:21:

rooney is not gonna be fit mate, we better get someone else now

Holland are not that good IMO...but whatever that really has nothing to do with this

but yeah I think they could definitly beat a team from Group A.....but Germany could be tough given the home field

Im thinking that this is a bit more media hype than anything....if Walcott/Crouch cant score from balls from Gerrard/Beckham/Lampard they shouldnt play football

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on May-28-2006 08:01:

If Rooney isn't going to be able to go, then I'd say risk Gerrard up front. He's a natural goal scorer and England have plenty of depth at mid field, though I would have preferred to have Ledley King available. Walcott is going to be a great player most likely but he's just too young. And Crouch....meh. Owen will be good as usual but he's so much better when Rooney makes things happen for him.

Posted by fastmp3 on May-28-2006 08:08:

bring Darren Bent

Posted by Cloud on May-28-2006 08:30:

Bent is a goal machine.
I agree... although i like Rooney

Posted by InterMilan31 on May-28-2006 08:30:

Defoe!

Posted by Cloud on May-28-2006 10:56:

Sweden
England
Paraguay
T&T

i think England might not get through tho.

Posted by zoric on May-28-2006 11:13:

Rooney out, they will have a hard time

I agree. It's moronic to have in the squad a player that will only be fit by the knockout stage and on top form probably only around the time of the final.

However that's not even England's biggest problem IMO, what they really need is to get that midfield to work, Owen and Crouch aren't crap. Sometimes strikers without a great reputation do great at big tournaments, there was Schillaci in 1990, or say Nuno Gomes in Euro 2000 scoring crucial goals when he was supposed to be a backup.

Shit man, I've seen Crouch many many times, the guy just can't score to save his own life. You're right though, he will receive precious balls from Becks and Co. so if he can nail 1 or 2 every now and then that should be more than enough if England's defense keep it together.

I think their midfield is the best one in the WC, and that's where England's chances rely on in my opinion. Lampard-Gerrard will have the chance to prove themselves as natural leaders of this squad, it's their turn to step up.
