theres no physical way (such as chord progressions as you said) but there is in what the track is emmiting and whether or not you can see through it. I should hope you would with NSYNC even with their "high number of sales".

just because you like the track it doesent make it "good music". Ill admit I like a few cheesy and commercial tracks here and there but I would never say that they were good. why do I like them if theyre not good? because maybe they hit the spot with a certain melody or chord. but if I was ever called out on liking the track I wouldnt defend it. Id merely say it was a guilty pleasure.

I already explained what I meant by that. if its either over-dramatic or trying to hard to be something...like an anthem.

My assesment of the situation is that he has accepted that but doesnt feel it is a valid reason to stop bashing people who like it. I feel that further arguing over this point is futile. At this point is has become an ego war, which no amount of arguing will result in reduced bashing of music, even though it is obvious that interperetations vary.

The only options at this point are "so what" or changing your taste to agree with his. That is the campaign everybody is on, to get people to convert tastes, onward musical missionaries, fight the crusade!

ok so you distinguish "good music" from "what you like", which is something i personally don't do but nevermind. now try to distinguish "good music" from "what you think that is good music". do you think that is possible? and can you explain what makes all good tracks good?

I have ears. with these ears I can hear the lyrics and I can hear the way that theyre sung and I can hear the generic supersaw that I notice in every other trance song since 1999... and over-done.

I haven't listened to armin in 3 years, what makes you think I like that music, of course I think its bad. What I don't like is overzealous missionaries fucking up every thread and ruining the fun of all the happy people that visit this site, the endless ickering takes away from the value of the information here. Nobody is going to convert to your taste when you at like a missionary on a crusade.

I think armins music is bad and have no problem admitting it, but that does not mean everyone must think that it is bad, it is totally acceptable that even connisuers of music can find ASOT good, if you go to enough parties you may even meet such people, they might even be deeper diggers with more maturity than you!

exactly. same goes for Unworldlys post. if its civilized critisism I dont see whats so bad about it. if its an insult then its unwarranted. but so are the childish personal attacks Purple and others made against users who werent listeners of ASOT in the first thread.

The point here I see isn't about not allowing people to have an opinion or not. The point is that Purple's thread was never meant to be made into a debate/argument over if Armin sucks or not. He wasn't asking for anyone's opinion about it. He was simply advertising for Armin's show, letting people know about it and the line up and such.
