^^ definitely, this guy is an enterprise all by himself. he runs the school, he sells shit on internet and all of this is nothing more than advertizement.

terrible terrible... they shouldn't have stopped it.. espically with only 20 seconds left in the round. That match was probably the most dissapointing match i've ever seen in UFC...another reason pride is better.

To each his own, i don't like pride.

possibly the worst UFC pay per view event ever...

can't wait for UFC 61 tho

UFC is all hype, shit talk, just to boost ticket sales. PrideFC is actually the worlds best fighters going at it, i'd like to see PrideFC champ vs UFC champs..now that'd be interesting.

Its tuff to say, I dont think there is a welterweight in pride who could touch hughes or Franklin for that matter. Last time the pride champ vanderla was in ufc vitor punched his face across the whole ring. I wanna see a chuck and quinton rematch. But for pride, I'm not sure who could touch feador emalianeko(spelling lol) The only person who will stop hugh's will be George St Pierre!!!

The Wanderlei Silva that got punched out by Vitor is a completely different fighter today. I dont believe that Silva was pride champ at the time when that happened, but regardless ask yourself where Vitor is today? Wanderlei has remained undefeated in pride for a few years now. I think any number of guys from pride wouldnt have too much trouble with Houghes or Franklin, guys such as Mirko Filipovic, Dan Henderson, Mauricio Rua, Wanderlei Silva, Fedor (although he's a heavyweight), and possibly Ricardo Arona.

Although, if UFC and PrideFC were to have a showdown, i believe there would have to be a mutual collaboration of rules and regulations. First off they should fight in a ring, cages are stupid, it doesnt take much skill to pin someone agasint a cage and throw elbows. Incorporate UFC rules into the Pride ring and other aspects of the game that'll be fair to fighters from both leagues.

the ppv was a bit lame and boring...the fisher knee was great.
George St Pierre will be the man to beat Hughes.

pride vs ufc

cage>ring
10 point must scoring< fight winner
ref stands up fighters not working>doesnt
no knee on ground< knee on ground

the ring sucks

yah i guesss thats a good comprimise, have it in the cage, but essentially have pride rules, as well as no elbows on the ground (that'll force some fighters to think a little more tactically)

+1 ... He's not ready yet, but will be the one. He's fast, he's skilled both standing and on the ground. However he's not powerful enough for hughes. I give Georges credit for the split vs. BJ Penn in UFC58, and Penn was the only one who ever defeatred Hughes, but that's 2 years ago, and BJ's not doing well since he moved up weight classes.

So I say George needs a few more months, or one or two major fights before he should face Hughes.

Elbows are an aquired offense. If you watch, not many fighters are able to make good use of them.Others like David "rich and xzience scared me" Loiseaux use them as a primary weapon. In a real fight people use elbows. They can also be defended with a proper guard.Banning them would suck. The fighters adapt or lose, simple as that.

Ps.If you saw the first St-Pierre vs Hughes match, St-Pierre was dominating and lost to a quick mistake. It will be a good fight but i dont think you will see that mistake and armbar again.

Mirko won't win a belt simply because he lacks a ground game, which is the difference between him and Chuck lidell. Chuck just gets up you can't take him down, aswell as a great sprawl. I do agree it may of not been the silva but it was Vitor in his prime, then he got into brazilian soap operas, and then did steroids and it slowed him down much. I still believe Hughs and Franklin would dominate there weight class, I would love to see minatauro nogera come back to his old self he was great to watch, especially watch him beat bob sapp.

I do like the cage more only because it gives you no where to hide, I seen too many times guys go thru the ropes for the ref to save them. Would be awesome if they could keep together a clash of the Champions so we could see them go at it. who wouldnt love lidell vs silva. Fedor vs Arlovski or slvia (depending after ufc 61)

I agree aswell Royce wasn't intelligently defending himself so they stop it so some1 doesn't get badly hurt. I Like prides rules with the UFC cage, and most the UFC fighters bring over a select few. PPl like Alexsander otsuka shouldnt fight every paperview because all he does is get his ass kicked, by no means does he deserve to be in pride with a record of 3-12. Pride has too many bums imo.

Posted by all-nite-freak on May-30-2006 15:24:

UFC=new breed of fighter
Pride=where the older fighters go to die.

I like the pride rules too, but i think that UFC has the better all around fighters by far.As much as i hate the Xzience everything, i do like the fact that UFC is becoming more accepted as a "mainstream" sport. The popularity and cable TV exposure will assure that the best fighters will most likely choose the UFC as the promotion to be with.
Pride will be the place where the older fighters try to squeeze in a couple more fights before withering away.

With all of the Spike tv programs,i will bet that in a few years there will be no more Pride, unless they adapt.Like mentioned before 3-12 fighters have no place in pay per views. It makes Pride look like a bingo hall operation.

Posted by Euphorica on May-30-2006 17:59:

like it has happend in the past....its popularity comes and goes.

pride is better minus the jap dudes who have a hookup to get into a fight

Posted by sueperstar on May-30-2006 18:17:

I've watched both and honestly, I prefer UFC over Pride. I prefer the UFC rules because they are safer. I'm not interested in seeing people die, but rather watching two skilled and strategic fights - plus a few good knockouts (I quite enjoy flying kicks ). Besides, Pride doesn't have my favourite, Mr. Chuck Liddell. (why is there no love emoticon? )

I miss the old days where the only rules were no fish-hooking and no eye-gouging. That was fun.

are you kidding?!? Gracie took half a dozen unanswered shots to the side and back of his head, made no indication he could escape Hughes' powerful pin, and looked to be in pretty bad shape after the fight.

*perfect* stoppage...another 20 seconds of Hughes pounding on him and Gracie would have been out cold and possibly seriously hurt. Gracie didn't even achieve full guard for more than 2 seconds?!?

This poor showing isn't limited to Royce...look up various members of the family and you'll see some pretty mediocre MMA records. Great jiu-jitsu, but in MMA, the family is hardly dominant anymore.

Posted by sueperstar on May-30-2006 20:51:

I have never seen bad reffing in UFC ever. Every call has been spot on. There was one UFC, I think last year (I'm terrible for remembering details like which ufc it was or who the fighters are (unless, of course, its chuck)) and during this fight a guy was hit and seemed to trip and fall down on the other guy's back. Big John stopped the fight. We were all wondering why until we saw the reverse angle when it was obvious that the guy was knocked silly before he hit the ground. One of the reasons I enjoy UFC is because I know the ref's are going to make sure no one gets seriously hurt, as often as possible.
