thanks, the panning was done via the grain delay. i can post the patch up for anyone that uses Live 5 if they want?

just Some random stuff

Tell me what you think, about 6 random claps added, delayed, chorus, and some Side Compression, its weirdo

Sounds pretty good, would make a cool perc line for a house track.

Just made another one demonstrating Live 5's grain delay (which i really like using for effects)

this one is called heavenly screams:

http://dj_sea.sitesled.com/Heavenly%20screams.mp3

its basically a quick pad i made ran through a grain delay and a reverb, all i did was play a single chord (C minor) and the grain delay did the rest

Posted by Derivative on Jun-03-2006 11:09:

What does the pad sound like without the grain delay?

Just want to get an idea of the type of sound you need before the effects. Nice one btw

it sounds like this:

http://dj_sea.sitesled.com/Heavenly...s%20no%20fx.mp3

(and yes, that is the same chord playing as in the FXed version, i set the grain delay to pitch up )

Posted by Dj_Es-Dva on Jun-03-2006 11:25:

what exactly is this grain delay? what would the equivalent in Fruity Loops be?

"Screaming ghost in a tin can?"
For Reason 2.0 or higher

1. Start by creating a Malstrom synth
2. Change OSC A waveform to Pink Noise and set its motion to -17
This will give it a metallic sound.
3. Set the Envelope of OSC A to Attack: 67, Decay: 113, Sustain: 0, Release: 91.
4. Route OSC A through Filter A.
5. Switch Filter A to BP12 and turn of the Env button. Set the Filter Frequency to 118 and Resonance to 18.
It will sound much more thinner now that the low frequencies are gone.
6. Set Mod A to Curve no. 10. Turn 1-shot on. Set Rate to 14 and Pitch to +63 (full).
The sound will now have an eerie pitch bend.
7. Insert a phaser unit after the Malstrom. Adjust it's settings like this:
Freq:78, Split:14, Width:58, Rate:0, F.Mod:0, Feedback:127.
This will cause a cool ringing sound.
8. Add a delay unit with these settings:
Delay time: 4 steps, Feedback: 89, Dry/Wet: 35.
9. Add a RV7000 reverb unit with these settings (Basically a long wet reverb):

EQ Enable: On
Decay: 118
HF Damp: 51
Hi EQ: 63
Dry/Wet: 63

Reverb Mode
Algoritm: Hall
Size: 39.6 m
Diffusion: 123
Room Shape: Two
ER->Late: 10%
ER Level: -4.5 dB
Predelay: 24 ms
Mod Amount: 80%

EQ Mode
Low Gain: -5.9 dB
Low Freq: 1000 Hz
Param Gain: 6.9 dB
Param Freq: 9752 Hz
Param Q: 0.3

And that's it!

Here's a sample of what it sounds like:

(The note played in the sample is a G#4)

^Nice! really like that, your crazy at this shit dude :P

Lets make this the best fucking thread in the production forum:

reFX Vanguard Effects Tutorial PART 1:

Synthesizer Goblins:

(note: you can change this into a 'synthfall' swoosh/take off/wind effect by swapping out synced noise for white noise and reversing the sample)

No need to narrate instructions with this baby - It's screenshot time! Load up a blank patch and input the settings as shown below:

And here are the settings for LFO 2...

And LFO 3...

Heres what it should sound like with no external effects:

Change the 3rd oscillator to the 'digital' waveform and the 1st oscillator to 'hi-pass noise' and drop the cutoff to 8.8khz and you get this EVIL DRONE:

Up the AMP drive and lower the cutoff for more evilness.

^Nice, some funky sounds!

Sry for Double post

Used a random Preset, but i expanded on it alot, i used vanguard, lots of automation to make it evolve, can even make a longer and interesting peace when i get my keyboard working :P

What do you guys think?

Posted by cybernetica on Jun-04-2006 08:20:

Awesome Thread! You guys posting great noises and tutorials rock, first of all Derivative! You get paid per line?

I gotta try to make some tutorials for wicked FX as well... soon.

cool sound, quite dark. This would work nicely in a Goa track. One thing you could change maybe: You can clearly hear the vanguard's distortion. Maybe reduce the overdrive in vanguard and add maybe a waveshaper or something for overdrive afterwards.

Posted by cybernetica on Jun-04-2006 14:33:

now here is the first sound I got for you: the psy "rubber" sound, made in Albino 2.

example mp3:
http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.p...C8C1BD530C097C3

screenshot of the albino settings:

How to do it (In Albino2) :

First of all, choose two oscillators. Set the first one to "FM" and disable the "track" button on it. This will be the modulator for the second oscillator.
Choose digital waveforms and set all waveforms to "sawtooth". Transpose the first oscillator 3-5 octaves higher than the second one.
You can experiment with transposing one or two oscillators up and down, it will produce some very interesting results.
As a filter, use a bandpass with rather high resonance and cutoff between 1000 and 2000Hz, set the "track" value to maximum.
The trick is now to use an LFO to modulate the pitch of oscillator 2. Do the same with another LFO modulating the filter cutoff.
Sounds cool already, huh? Try using a phaser set to 100% "wet" and inverted feedback, it will sound really spacey that way. Set the "center" of the phaser to 3000-6000 and "feedback" and "stages" to a low value.
Add some long delay and reverb for extra spaciness

Here is a rar file with the preset (for Linplug Albino2):

I love the psy rubber sound. Id forgotten how fucking good Albino was - I just kind of put it on the backburner once I got going with the Virus B.

Time to make some more rubber effects xD

Believe it or not I do this shit for fun. Boring bastard that I am.

Thats a fricken cool sound! Ill post some more when i get home, random effects ftw

3 patches for Albino 2.1 + mp3 demo

I think the last patch (sonik_psy_slider3.FXP) is good.

Thanks for Derivative for these tips.

I have an SN on isratrance too but I've only posted once in about 10 months. Guess I should post more often 0.o

I'll have a couple more sounds for the Virus coming up this week - Its such an awesome peice of kit for making mind bending effects. Most of the work is in the mod matrix and the LFOs. I think I'll take Albino for spin again - From the Albino samples in this thread, I dont think I am taking it as far as it can go. It sounds fucking good

Great sound, but would it be possible to you describe this sound on this thread? I mean, step by step?

Thanks!

Posted by JustinMead on Jun-06-2006 02:58:

Sure let me post some screen shots

Sry for the horrible quality of the pics, somthing to do with my vid card.

Just took a preset, added a saw tooth, and a Ajx saw, and set the Ajx saw semi to 36, and played with its volume.

Cloned the vanguard, played with the ajx saw on the Vanguard #2 semi, to about 12. i dont think i played much with the LFO, but Cut off i did.

Then assigned to mixer track 1, added high pass filter, using fruity free filter, then added a patrimatic EQ, taking out the lows, dont know why but with vanguard, i reallly hate the low freq's.

Some reverb, then added a automation clip, wish my MIDI keyoard was working, could of done a better job on the automation, i can post the .flp tomorow.

the preset was called Goa3, that is in the MF artificial pleasure bank.

Justin
