Very sorry to hear this but please don't feel alone either.
I grew up with my Dad and his brother (my fav uncle) both having bi-polar disorders.
I know it's not full out schizophrenia but believe me when I say this, it would have been tons easier on the family (including myself) if it was; much easier to deal with
My problem is you can't admit them ANYWHERE unless they're a threat (to themselves or others) and they have to go willingly; with diagnosed schizophrenia that's not an issue.
It's only when they were at the peak of their 'cycles' that the cat was out of the bag so to speak, that anybody would do anything because at that time, it was more than obvious there was a problem.
Very, very, very frustrating let me tell you.
You feel very hopeless when you know your own dad is having problems and you can't help at all.
They're of sound mind and all but they have VERY wacked ideas, irregular breathing when they sleep, IF they sleep, and ideas come to them like a train without the breaks.
I hope my little story helps you out.
I know it's not easy to take and I can somewhat relate but know this, there have been leaps and bounces in this afflication over the past 10 years or so (yea, only 10 years) so have hope.
We're only just starting to understand this area and the support groups are just, within the last few years, starting to appear.
And yes, there are support groups for those that have family members with schizophrenia/bi-polar.
It's a huge toll on everyone so don't feel alone.

| Originally posted by The Highroller This is false. As far as cannabis goes, it is undetermined whether cannabis causes psychological disorders, or if people with psychological disorders (or prone to psychological disorders) are more prone to smoking cannabis. One thing is for sure, there are more drug users or instances of a history of drug usage among people with psychological disorders than with the general populatoin. As far as psychedelics go (mushrooms, LSD), it is generally assumed that these drugs can bring about under lying psychological illnesses that may or may not have ever surfaced. Your position went from the original quote to this Remember: If something hasn't been prooven, it still could be true until it is proven to be untrue. |

I guess it would be really wrong though... but I think professionals would be able to find so much information... Nikki |

| Originally posted by Refinnej Apparently there is now a once a month shot that schizophrenics can get for those who refuse to take their meds. My ex bf's mother has schizophrenia and he told me recently that he takes her for a once a month shot in Toronto. I don't know if it's true though..I haven't confirmed if there is such a needle. Here is a helpful website: http://www.mentalhealth.com/book/p40-sc01.html |
Thanks so much everyone (except MK and vivid
like seriously ) for your caring and knowledgable responses. I am kinda confused now as to what may have happened to my cousin..b/c according to my brother he was into coke huge for a wihile..and smoked a fair amoutn of weed...but not leaving the house in over 6 mths he wasnt doing much of anything at all. But having someone on his dad's side having it I dont knownow if it was more to do with his family background...I mean it was only one person who had it on his dad's side....

unfortunately I can't help much, but I do hope everything will work out just fine for your cousin!
I'm always here if you need to talk/rant.

Kelly, I have sincere sadness to hear that this is something you are going through. Mental illness is something that is serious and needs to be taken SERIOUSLY.
We will talk about this in person....
On another note....I think the postWHORING in this thread needs to learn where the F&*#@ to talk and where NOT to talk.
Theres the door. Hope it doesn't kick ya on the way out....
Sorry if I offend anyone...LOL....Kelly's my girl...no one Fucks with dance2dabeat.
Much love...hahahahaha

Just wanted to publically appologize for my immaturity. It was stupid I know, and completely unacceptable. My condolences to you kelly. As for the whole drugs affecting the fact that your cousin has schizophrenia, my neighbours son as found to have it, and he had been a heavy cocaine user for a long time, they to this day assume that may have been the cause of his abrupt change in the way he acted, and the key link to discovering his "illness". My PSychologist also questioned me as to wether or not I was a drig user, she said it can trigger chemical imbalances in my brain that I never knew were there.... She also reccomended that with a high rate of depression and anxiety that it was NOT a good idea in the slightest for me to even think of using them....
I just wana say that you have a friend in me, and I hope your family can stay strong through the struggles. Your cousin is where he needs to be, here's hoping he can accept the help he needs and feel better.
*hugs n love*
mk
ps. I'm and immature idiot.
^^^ That was a nice thing to do in admitting your immature behaviour and apologizing for it MK.
