Pretty good night!

Got there with my friends John and Brian around 11 pm, and I was the 15th person to be at sonic. The number of patrons didn't increase that much until about 12; the dancefloor was empty. When Vibe came on, it was like a mating call had been made...the dancefloor filled up really quickly with loads of beautiful femmes. I was REALLY happy that it wasn't that packed; I always had enough room to shake it. There were only two things that really made me feel less than 100%: It was ridiculously hot despite the fact that it wasn't overcrowded...and it was cold outside, so what gives? Tried not to let it bother me, but the pain in my neck that I thought I had lost that morning decided to return. PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT! Took a couple of breaks after 5 am and as I danced my way back to the dancefloor everyone had disappeared....wtf...I didn't notice that Vibe stopped playing lol. Took off around 7:40ish with Miluska and Karina; we were the last ones to leave sonic.

As for the sets...Nevio was playing some decent tunes, but there was absolutely no flow. He probably wasn't enjoying himself...bah! I didn't want to waste my energy going nuts to his set, but I have absolutely no control over my body. When Vibe came on I felt a warm sensation in my body....and it was probably just from the heat (I was sober :P.) He met my expectations, and I was never happier to be Portuguese. I lost my voice by the end of the night from screaming out "Viva Portugal", "Ehhhh caralho", and making my african tribal calls too many times lol. It's all about the DDTT!!!! I was in love with the music. His mixing was good, but it was the tracks, and the order he played them in that really did it for me. I noticed the following tunes:

Danny Tenaglia - D'ibiza
Copyright Feat. Song Williamson - He Is

^^ very predictable...but I'm not tired of hearing them yet..Also...HUGE wtf as Vibe played one of the sexiest and oldest tunes...I trainspotted it from kilometres away..

Lil Louis - French Kiss

!!!!! I was going around telling everyone around to wait for the female groans in the tune...and then...Aaaaaaaaaaaah lol. Some really amazing unknown tune was played that made me, Billy, and Dave feel like we were really in a jungle. It had some weird tribal chant and the sound samples were fucking trippy. Someone PLS id this tune! Another delightful surprise...He dropped MNML!!! well...more tech house, but still lol...Specifically, that bastard played one of my current favs..

Paul Woolford Pres. Bobby Peru - Erotic Discourse

The crowd wasn't feeling it, but me, Billy, and Sarah showed them how it's done. Wasn't feeling the last half hour of his set, but overall it was awesome. Much better than C&C's last set, although I had more fun that night. I believe it was Nevio who went on after, and he played some really good diva house. Nothing like those vocal tunes early in the morning to calm us down. This time I didn't miss it Jeff! He played not only one, but 2 of my fav tunes..

Ian Carey And Mochico Feat. Miss Bunty - Say What U Want (Ian Carey Dub Mix)
Herd And Fitz Feat. Abigail Bailey - I Just Can't Get Enough (Full Vocal Extended Mix)

The crowd was great, and not one bit pushy. The TAs totally owned the floor though. Great seeing the usual sonic crew and some I don't see too often... Kris, nice to see you once again! Please visit us more often! The Dirty Clowns were practically in full force! Cribby + Ang + Billy + Miluska + Dave = FTW!!! Also...Porkchops and brazilians did an awesome job representing!! Kelly, we totally owned It was nice meeting Bobby (Orko) geroin, and finally meeting Sarah (Skipper). Sarah...do me a favour and come out to events more! Your presence was very delightful.

After a 2 week break it was nice to visit my home again. Cheers...and just once more..

Viva Portugal

WOW. That was an awsome night. I arrived at 12:30ish when Nevio was still on. The dancefloor was wasn't full at all which kind of shocked me. But when Vibe come on, thats when the dancefloor came to life. It was all good until I got completely drained out around 6 ish. All I could do sit, close my eyes, and listen to Vibe/Nevio. I left around 7:15.

Sonic - 9/10 --> really nice club. But dancefloor is smaller than i thought(nothing bad really). Good setting, amazing dancefloor, good lighting, and best of all, is good DJ's combined with an amazing sound system. Wow...what an experience!!!!

DJ Vibe - 9.5/10 --> AMAZING....from start to finish. His set was hot, exotic, and at one point erotic. He just pounded everyone with good tribal beats all night long. Very smooth and flawless mixing. He is Truely THE greatest tribal DJs of of our time. He's just PURE TRIBAL MAGIK.

DJ Nevio - 8/10 --> I didn't hear much of him except after DJ Vibe left. All I could say is good taste for dance music.

The crowd - 7/10 --> The crowd was fairly hyped up to see DJ Vibe take over the DJ booth and was somewhat energetic for the first couple of hours. But the energy was slowely going down hill. Sometimes it seemed like the crowd wasn't really reflecting his good music. I guess most people where tired.

TOTA hospitality - 8/10 --> It was really nice meeting some of you. Too bad I couldn't meet the rest of you. Hopefully i'll see you guys in the future.

Event overall - 8/10 --> It was definatly worth it!

LOL.....it was my first event EVER!

I danced like an idiot, and I had fun.

I think Vibe started spinning his best after 5:30am... good thing because by that time I was already thinking of going home.

So much fun partying with you all again, really good times. Thx Jeff for the afterparty invite and Steve for the ride. Nada, thank you so much for the bracelet, that shit is staying there till the end of the WC

^5's to everyone that came out, a pleasure as aways

cheers

Well well even tho the night started out a bit shitty due to the drama on Yonge street with the cops and shits, once i stepped into Sonic i knew tis was going to be one awesome night ...
and i got just that

I must say all the hype sorrounding around the club is totally for the right reasons. Club is gorgeous from inside and those round lights are so kool. Once in a while it is ok to turn them off tho lolz. Club staff from door people to bar folks to washroom dudes to the guy standing by the smoking exit door, everyone was totally kool and helpful. Thumbs up Sonic !!! It was not as packed as i was told it will be or hoping it wont get so had lots of room to dance by the back speakers and make a fool of meself lolz. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and i for sure will be back to Sonic

Now onto the music ... Nevio's set wasnt a total flop but i would agree above with few that his set sounded more of a headliner set rather than a opening set for a headliner Dj. I guess he was trying too hard to make sure he does a good job or maybe he was just nervous lolz i am not sure but nonetheless it wasn't totally shit. 1 massive track twice in an hour ... who does Nevio think he is? Tiesto?!!? lolz (jokes) On the other hand VIBE played a good set but lacked the awesomeness he has previously showed in quite a few of his sets. A few times of the night i was not totally feeling it but for most part i would say he was doing great. 8/10 for Dj VIBE last night. Did real good but can and has done better

The crowd the TAs i met and everything else was just great seeing some faces i hadnt seen in a while was a nice treat. Thanks Rj for the intro to the club Tara thnx for the text again and so nice to see ya. Max thankyou for the ride there and back and sorry about the wait earlier on the night lolz. Tristan w000t awesome bro and thanks for the smoke Everyone else thankyou very much for making my first night at sonic such a blast ... you all roXX !!!

see ya folks tonight ... hopefully

agreed. This one had vocals, I think I heard Ryan say it was Dj Simi's (spelling? of Deep Dish remix fame) remix.

He also played Goldfrapp - Number One, I'm too lazy too look up the remix.

I am going to make this really simple....I am totally with jon jon and Steve on this one!

Their comments fairly reflect my thoughts on the night....

Posted by jon jon on Jun-11-2006 23:45:

in other related news, "Hotel Rwanda" is NOT (I repeat 'NOT') a good movie to chill out to the day after a party.

Posted by harcourt on Jun-11-2006 23:56:

My only complaint and it had a big affect I would say on the vibe in the place. The lighting, it's way too bright in that place. I realize they have the fancy light rigs, but whoever is in control, has them on too much, there is no smoke, so you can literally see end to end in the place. From the front stairs to the back bar! The lights up behind the DJ booth around the back, the white ones hanging, TURN THEM OFF or down or something. Totally kills the intimate part of the place which makes up quite a bit of the experience.

WAY too bright, the sound was awesome and great staff.
