-- Proposal for Ontario to ban tanning for under 18s

Our healthcare may suck but at least it is still free.
I for one is very grateful for the fact that we don't have to worry about hefty bills waiting in the ER for our loved ones to have surgery performed on them.

It's better than nothing.

I guess sarcasm is that hard to detect on the internet.

You seem to be missing the fact that if we don't protect the morons for themselves, we pay the consequences.

Why do you think we have such high taxes? One of the reasons is because there are so many idiots making so many moronic decisions, and ending up in the hospitals, or destroying public property, with high cost to the government.

You should be proud of yourself that you can make smart decisions for your own life. Good for you. Not everyone else seems to have the brains to do so as well.

If this seems like common sense to you, then it really shouldn't bother you.
Perhaps we should abandon the law that people be required to wear seat belts?
Are you willing to forego the tax hike because thousands are suffering worse injuries in car accidents?

Our healthcare system is s true disaster.I went to the sunny brook hospital last week and I was waiting to see a doctor for 8 hours.
There was honeslty people dying right in front of me and nobody gave two shits about them.
people in the emergency like me and my sister were helping old people to go the washroom and etc and not once any nurse came to see if they needed help. They wouldnt even give them blankets to sleep.

There was garbage all over the place and the washrooms were beyond filthy.they were telling people to go home because throughout the whole emergecy there was only ONE yes ONE doctor working. This is fuckin disgusting and we are suppose to be a rich country not a third world country.
Perhaps maybe if our healthcare wasnt free,we would be getting way better services.

hardcore trancer you are wrong...sorry. Does it need work, yes...but its hardly that bad and a recent study supports that.

I agree with this.

I'm not sure you fully understand the picture. You compare Canada to developing nations like China, and fail to realize differences in economic structure, and government involvement. Doesn't it say something that our country is full of morons? We pay here regardless. There ARE better systems out there, and Canada has the full potential to reach them, if it so had the desire. Some changes should be imposed, and some liberties should be given. Policing minutae detail will only create an even greater populace of morons.

BTW, isn't this law allready in effect in Quebec? You need to be either 18, or have parental permission to use one..?

and why is he wrong? he just gave a sold personal experience example

I say Ontario should just ban people under the age of 18. When you are born you are taken to BC and when you turn 18 then you can come back.

I forgot living in Toronto is shittier than Mississauga.
Credit Valley and Trillium are both nice and clean hospitals.
Yup we had to wait that long too, but once we needed help they gave it to us.

Free?? FREE??

Um no its not free. Aside from the ridiculous taxes we pay (50% of all taxes paid in canada go directly to health care), last time my mom was in a hospital many many years ago i got stuck with a bill for treatments not covered by OHIP. (there are a lot). we ended up with a $1500 bill. And this is not uncommon btw.

Plus you have to pay $15 a day for a tv. Plus the arm and a leg parking bill. Plus $150 a day if you want semi private rooms as opposed to being stuck in a 10 person ward.

Yeah, some health care system we have!

NO the reason is because we have a soley public system with huge bureaucracies and hospital trustees earning $400,000 a year etc etc. There is unbelievable waste that goes on in a non competative health care system.

i was proud of myself that i was able to make the right decisions for my own life. Sadly that pride has been eaten away because now i dont have any choice since the government now makes those choices for me.

yes because thats your own stupidity if you dont

No, because id make it so that those who dont wear seatbelts pay higher insurance rates. That way it is still your choice whether or not you wish to wear one or not, but you suffer the consequences if you dont.

In china, if someone jwalks without looking, they get run over. Therefore no one j walks. Or if they do they make damn sure that no cars are coming.

I cant say the same for canada where the government protects pedestrian's stupidity by legally saying that its always the driver's fault.

I could go one with a million more examples of how government caudling is actually ENCOURAGING stupidity.

You know seriously, I think it's time you moved out of this country to fully appreciate what we have here.

ive used foreign hospital systems. I can fully appreciate what we have here. And i dont like it.

Instead of taking the easy way out and leaving, why cant we just fix the problems?

Posted by Euphorica on Jun-13-2006 21:00:

Of course they don't, unlike him, they base their opinions on "what they hear" and "personal feelings", instead of doing the actual research. When faced with cold-hard facts, they ignore the links or skip the article. They have no problem accepting that people are morons, but ignore the fact that they themselves are included in that group.

SIMPLE!

Prove it. He gave evidence, you didn't. Not only did he give evidence based on personal experience, it's an experience repeated thousands of times daily in most hospitals in Canada, and it's been happening for years.

I'd like to see that study you're talking about too, where is it? Post a link. The last report I read about in the paper said our health-care system STILL sucks.

You could probably answer that question than I ever could.
Why isn't our homeless problem fixed?

blah blah blah.
