We have Pierre Trudeau to thank for a complete lack of National identity and pride. Multiculturalism has been a plague on this great country.

What a legacy!

VIVE LE CANADA!!!!

Go for whatever team you like.

I like Italian soccer, I like Italy, so I go for Italy.
I like German soccer, they are hosting the tournament, so I cheer for Germany.
I dislike Brazilian soccer, style and players. So I dont go for Brazil.
I am from Canada, but Canada isn't in the world cup so I cant go for a team that is not playing.

simple.

I am by background Italian, and actually have a Bi-citezenship (scary as I was almost ask to join the army) but my country image say's it all. Proud to be Canadian and would definately cheer for them.

And its sad why we dont make it. If any of you have seen the calibre of player we have at the 18-21 year level, it's baffling to try to understand wtf is going on at the CSA. The talent is here, we just dont know how to harness it and make it grow. Hopefully an MLS squad will bring new life to Canadian Soccer

I always ask my frineds why they dont cheer for Italy in the Wolrd Cup of Hockey

i remember canada played jamaica here recently and there were more jamaican fans than canadian. that's pathetic. i came to this country 13 years ago and started playing soccer right away cuz i used to play in my home country and from what i've seen in the past 13 years is that canada hasn't much developed as a soccer nation. what do you expect when you show national spelling bee competitions over major soccer games in the world? good luck canada!

Bwhahahaa!

So true...

Seriously, how do you expect sports like Soccer to develop and gain popularity in a country where Curling, Lacrosse and Poker get higher priority on TV...?

Wtf?!

Take care of that shit first, then come back and complain about lack of soccer coverage and its popularity...

Honestly, whoever decided that poker tournaments are an appropriate thing to show on sports channels should be shot in the face with a shotgun.

It depends if it was a "good" goal or a "bad" goal...

Even though I identify myself as a Canadian, I'd still root for my country of origin. Its just one of those things. Plus, if I cheered for Canada, if they ever made it that is, with their mad skillz, I probably wouldn't be cheering for too many games.

Posted by Ortemy on Jun-13-2006 15:31:

Russia

And then England and Czech.

Then teams from Eastern Block - Serbia, Poland, Croatia, Bulgaria, etc etc.

After those MAY BE Canada. But probably for whoever would play well This country does not give a flying fuk about soccer, why would I cheer for it?

it has nothing to do with canadians supporting other teams... it has to do with lack of money in sport(in general) in canada. If we actually put some money into it and had a league(like we used to when we last made the world cup) the fans would come out!

I was born and raised here but i always cheer for the teams of my backround...I am 1st gen Canadian .

If we actually made the world cup id cheer for Canada

Love how so many peps, even if they were born or raised in Canada all their lives and have never been to the country of the parents (or maybe not even, but the country where their grandparents came from), but they STILL identify with that country for some reason more than they do Canada! Its kinda scary and backward if you logically look at it...

If you were born here, then YOUR roots are in Canada (if your parents were born there, then THEY have roots in said country, you still dont, except through them.... so why one would identify then more w/ that country... I dont get)

Baffles me logically. I dont think you'd see that in many other country around the world. I really dont.

why? There parents still do things from that backround... like traditions, food etc. Its not like cause you were born here you automatically do Canadian things only. Thats what Canada is anyways. A very multicultural country. It would be stupid if everyone forgot where they came from...and even though you were born here you still have roots from where your parents are from.
You do see it in every country! Peoples backround is from where their parents are from.

Im getting sick and tired of reading about people bitching about others being proud of their backround. I was born here because my mother chose to have me born here(rents were living over seas while pregnant and my mom flew here for me to be born). My primary backround is Italian and Polish. We still follow traditions from each, my mom speaks Polish along with other things and my grandmother (Polish is still alive). My father used to speak Italian but since his parents have died there hasnt been a need for him to speak it. We still have LOTS of family over seas. I think of myself as NOT only Canadian but Italian and Polish aswell. So what if I was born here? That doesnt mean that my heritage means shit all and I just forget it and move on. Im proud of my roots and where I come from, cause really my flesh and blood is FROM those other countries. Quit bitching cause you are whitey mcwhite from Canada with no other backround

Sounds to me that you consider yourself Polish/Italian first, and Canadian when it's convenient. THAT'S what's wrong with multiculturalism.

Perfect example is that roughly 50% of Argentina's population came from italy around the same time as we received our italian immigrants. But i haev rarely seen an italian flag. The rare exception being an italian bakery. Instead the italians there integrated many italian ideas into every day life. Much of the argentine version of spanish is heavily italian influenced, the first names are italian and even the food is italian adapted to argentine beef culture.

But, ask any 2nd gen argentine italian if hes italian and he will probably sayv "my dad is but im argentine".

Canadian when its convenient...yes thats how I roll. LOL. I consider myself ALL 3. It would be stupid to just consider myself Canadian and forget where my roots come from.

as for being offensive about that comment...gimme a break, go cry somewhere else Jay

Posted by Jayx1 on Jun-13-2006 19:43:

i dont particularly care myself. But if a comment like that was made about anyone else's race youd probably have been banned by now.

Thats my point.

Posted by Cosmic Fur on Jun-13-2006 19:46:

Isn't porkchop a derogatory term for Portugese people?

Why are you still here? Your an adult, you can now make your own decisions.... if you'd rather be elsewhere then go.
