Belgium. Actually I'm pretty sure that you'll go to jail in any country when you shoot someone who isn't directly a thread for your safety (even when they have infiltrated in your house). Burglars are supposedly not a threat, only if they are pointing some sort of weapon towards you do you have the right to self-defence. Never shoot a burglar in the back or you'll be sorry.

I believe it works the same in the US, too, though it might vary from state to state.

I used to own a 9mm but after serving my 2 years in the state penn, im not allowed to own a firearm anymore. Being locked up wasnt that bad. I shit alot easier now, dont even really have to push.

In Canada, as civillians we are not allowed to own guns. To be quite honest with you, it makes me feel a hell of a lot safer.

I would much rather not have a gun, and be a little less "safe" when attacked by a thief, than to have a bunch of gun-toting ego-maniacs wandering around.

Posted by THE_Chris on Jun-27-2006 21:03:

Ireland has extreme gun laws.

People can go to jail for several years just for possessing bullets.

I thought there ere alot of guns in canada. My friends dad used to always go hunting in canada & had alot of friends that lived there. He said every person he knew in canada owned a gun.

wrong
firearms are allowed
you need a permit to buy amunition.
the difference between canada and the united states is that we dont have cnn to scare the living shit out of us with its version of the state of things. Therefore we do not feel the urge to arm ourselves to the teeth to protect ourselves from "evil dooers" or the king of england

My apologies.

Yea, we are allowed to have guns... they just make it very difficult to get them.

i've always wanted to shoot a gun.

i've shot a gun before it was cool but now i've got it out of my system. go to firing range with ur mom and shoot away.

and for those of you who hate guns...what if you were sound asleep in your bed with a wife and kids in the house and some fucking sicko breaks in with a weapon? would u hesitate to shoot his ass when he grabs your wife hostage or tries to harm your family?

btw, I'm against guns. kids get their hands on them or someone gets killed by accident.

they're not a good form of protection becuase you have to have it located next to you, needs to be loaded, and more important you have to be willing and able to shoot to kill. most ppl who have a gun for protection aren't a good shot or don't have the balls to use it.

btw, what if you sneeked into ur mom's house late at night because you forgot something and didn't want to wake her up. she shoots you because she thinks your a robber.

I can somehow respect the 'what if someone breaks into your house and grabs your children as hostages'. BUT:

When the fuck does those things ever happen? Seriously.

Of how many americans, and earthicans for that matter, who owns a gun have acctually ever used it, for good reasons? imo, it's just stupid. You ARE in fact stupid if you own a gun out of fear. Lock your doors instead!

But I guess it's as american as going to McDonalds daily, I won't stop you, but that doesn't stop YOU from becoming fat, if you get the metaphore.

No, I'm not bashing americans, I'm bashing an american idea.

I was pretty sure that you were wrong, so I did a quick google on Canadian gun laws. Here's a few links so that you can correct yourself.

-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Canada - BTW, in this one, you can see that long guns (rifles, shotguns) no longer even need to be registered as of 2006, going back on the 1995 law that really upped your gun control laws, but hardly banned guns.

-http://www.canadianembassy.org/gove...ncontrol-en.asp - Mostly for travelers bringing guns in, but still gives an overview of your own coutry's laws.

it is an american phenomenon...most def.Its not bashing, because if you look at canada, we actually have more firearms per capita than the us, yet we dont have anywhere near the same rate of deaths by firearms. There is really no explanation that i can see other than americans are nuts

Lock your doors?? Do you really think that the people worried about protection already don't do this?

The main reason I responded was to ask what you mean by "use a gun?" Do you mean actually fire at someone, or do you mean brandish the weapon as a deterrant? If you click the first link I posted above, you'll learn that 95% of the time, just brandishing is enough of a deterrant and it's not necessary to shoot.

Not by the time I'd started replying and got a few links. I wouldn't have needed to do anything if you either knew your own country's laws or didn't comment on the topic at all.

Posted by RandomGirl on Jun-27-2006 21:32:

The problem with your "brandishing gun" idea is that not only can regular Americans get their hands on guns, so can the criminals.

Who is more likely to get hurt in that case? A joe-shmoe who has never shot a gun before, and is scared shitless, or the guy who is looking for his next fix?

Guns should be banned altogether. They are an awful invention.

Don't you think it is a little fucked up that as a society you are arming yourselves from your own kind? I mean... what the hell have we turned ourselves into?
