I had a fantastic time at G2.
No thanks to the tunes.
Tunes all night long i found were mediocre at best. I wasn't really into Christopher Lawrence's set at all, Second Sun I hardly caught and I thought Johan's set was all over the map. No direction and strangely placed tracks all over the place. That U2 remake was horrible.
There were flashes of greatness in his set though which would be fun, but then rudely interupted by some nonsense track like born slippy for the giggamillionth time.
I still had a lot of fun though, something about partying in the koolhaus just has a fantastic feel for me everytime.
I think I could listen to Cuzo farting on a snare drum in the kool haus and still have a good time.

pretty good time!
Christopher Lawlernce - WOOWW amazing siick dirty PSYish trance, something you dont hear everyday. I will never miss this guy again. 10/10
Markus Shultz - started off pretty good, we liked that remix of Air for Life, some parts of his set kinda bored me. He was better when we saw him last time at guv. 7.5/10
Second SUn - meh they were ok, again i think last time at guv they were better. Parts of it really sucked, like they would just leave the same exact beat for a good 5 minutes. But as always playing Crush is a big plus =) 5.5/10
Gielen - only caught the begginging of his set, which sounded really nice slow and sexy. He took vocals from Lost tribe - game master, would be sick if he played the actual song.
cheers to every1 we met, cam where did u get kicked out from? they booked u in kool haus or orange room?

| Originally posted by dark _entity You know something ChemEnhanced I'm sure you and your friends could theoretically do a better job; however I think you are taking this thread a little too far. After all Gilen, Shultz and Lawrence are world leading and renounced djs / producers that are reviewed by several major magazines and for whom people vote on the dj list. Not only do they get reviewed by professionals from djmag, mixmag; they also have a strong following. If you think you could do better then them go for it, release some of your own productions, remixes, compilation mixes, get an international gig and play outside of Toronto or try to get a residency at local club. Play a few massive festivals like Sensation White or Black for instance. Hey you and your friends could try to play @ WEMF why don't you submit a demo for the local new talent stage. I've noticed that its a fashion nowadays to criticize people left right and centre, so if you think you and your friends could do better then most djs that played at KH last night, then why isn't that I don't see your name in the media, neither can I go out to HMV and find ChemEnhanced mixed compilation. |
Anyone can name that track that Johan Gielen played as soon as he came on??
anyone help plz !!!
Thanks
I had fun .. and agree with shanny .. i always have fun whenever i go out to the KH ! ..
but just music and set times where misplaced for me ,... i ended up leaving after marcus
ssooo many new TA's .. wtf ! lol .. hopeflly i'll get the chance to meet alot of ya soon enough ...
GOod night tho .. nicer that KH wasnt boiling and packed
sounds like an interesting night, i would of only wanted to go for johan, and didn't feel like waiting til 5am to see him, so decided to pass. plus, after seeing second sun at US9, that would of been a huge vibe killer, that guy has an awful voice.
Chris Lawrence.... perfect blend of trance and psy, always a pleasure!
Markus Shulz, man he impressed the fuck out of me, HE PLAYED FALSE LIGHT PEOPLE, FALSE LIGHT!!!!!!!!
Second Sun sucked camel balls, except for that AC/DC track, thunderrrr!
and as for the master behind the decks, mr JOHAN FUCKING GIELEN.......
all i have to say is Saltwater man... Saltwater!!!
Besides that the highlight of the night for me was Gielen dropping my freind and fellow partygoer Ron (aka Summer Sessions)s track SLIPSTREAM! (which i named by the way) At that point i lost my shit!!!!
Crowd was ok, ive seen better at K/H
the thing i would change about that night, is to completely remove Second Sun from the lineup!
PS: i hate the government staff, one day (and mark my words) they willl go down!
PPS: My new arch-nemesis is the list lady at guv!
Hey everyone...
Its been a long time since I've posted anything....Last nite was ok...I thought Christopher Lawrence was the best and I liked Sidney Blu in the Orange Room as well
....It was great to see some familiar TS faces too....Anyway here are my pics from last nite

Here's one of the videos I took too

wow i cant believe some of u guys didnt like johans set. i thought it was just phenomenal. the guy is a mixing master. although i must say the first 10-15 was mehish, but then omg. tyler and i and some of the other TA's were in the back and could see all the mixing that he was doing. this was seriously one of the best sets ive heard live.
chris lawrence was meh for my liking. markus was good as usual. too bad he only had 1.5 hours to play. if he had a good 2.5 hour it wouldve been eeven more great. second sun was meh as well. their last performance during ultra spin 9 was much much better.
i had a real good time standing behind the djs all night. it was great to see what actually goes on behind the scenes. and there was a lot of room to dance.
the only thing that went wrong was that i lost my memory card from my camera whcih included all my pics. this was a real downer for me
cuz i wont have anything to remember the night by.
i agree, music was meh, it royally sucked BUT i had a lot of fun, met a ton of people and danced like a madman. i even got to dance shirtless in one of the towers :-).
it made me happy that Gielen played Royksopp - What Else Is There one of my favorite tunes.
i saw a ton of TAs, i think i talked to Jem_hadar towards the end of Gielen's set, i saw Cuzo with the italian flag, shanny, fayaree and sexy Nada, the rest i don't know their nicknames. forgive me if i don't introduce myself but the music is so loud that is very difficult to communicate, i think in time i will meet all of ya.
all in all it was a good party, even tho now looking back i think i dropped too many chemicals last night, i think is time for me to rest the partys for a while (a month or two at least~!)
and Trance lives on!

Short of issues with the guestlist which ended up costing a significant amount (pissed the hell out of me) as well as Second Sun's awful performance I have to say last night was AMAZING for me.
I came in just as Christopher Lawrence was starting and his set absolutely blew me away. Until last night I hadn't ever heard psy in a club let alone such a perfect mix of melodic trance and psy. 10/10 for CL
Markus came on, and he played a nice set although it was too much of the usual for me. Nothing all too special about his performance, but he did a nice job overall anyways. 8/10
Second Sun maanged to butcher a whole bunch of tracks for me. The sound was weak and for the first time in my life I literally fell asleep in a club. Vocals were crap all around and when they threw on AC/DC - Thunderstruck and tossed in some extra synths it sounded like garbage - completely ruined a classic for me. 1/10
Johan was BRILLIANT. His opening for me was really good (as opposed to what many people said) because it slowly got me out of the sleepy/irritated mood Second Sun threw me into. He built up nicely into an all around amazing set. Beginning to end every single thing fell nicely into place; really enjoyed his edit of Slipstream - went nuts when we heard that. The last track (excluding his encore) was Saltwater which completely took me by surprise. It's one of my favourite track of all time and to hear it in a club was just mindblowing. 10/10 for Johan
Christopher Lawrence played an amazing set, except it felt a little to early on in the night for pumping hard trance.
Markus & Johan also had an awesome set.
But as usual, once the night picked up.. it was just crazyness as always.
Highlight of the night: The asian lady humping the speaker for like 3/4's of the night.
Oh those silly K'ed out asians, always providing none stop entertainment by making complete asses out of themselves.
Maybe shoutouts later, first comes sleep.
Nada, very sexy outfit hun!
thank you and Cam for your text messages. you guys are wicked.
there were at least 6 people who said HI to Sydney from me last night!
too funny
and I'm really glad that there are more and more people every week who really get into her music.
I'm kinda glad that i didnt go still!
had a much needed rest, so I am ready to party all Sunday long... wooohoooooooo

Full review:
Came in about 12:20, and Lawrence was off to a great start. He had a couple of really wicked songs that I wish I knew the name of. Then he went into his psy phase, which I didn't like too much. Don't get me wrong, normally I absolutely love Psy Trance and it was very nice to hear it in the KH (I remember at one point I was like, "Psy? In KH? WTF is going on???"), but I dunno, there was just something off about the Psy tunes that he played. It still had me moving, but didn't have me going crazy like his non-Psy tues. Regardless, by the end of his set he went back to the style he was playing when he came on, and I was VERY happy to hear it. Enjoyed his set thoroughly.
P.S. His set made me wish that Oakie would come back to his Goa/Psy roots.
Markus was great as always. He just doesn't ever dissapoint me, and this is my 3rd time seeing him, and it's the 3rd time that his set consistently stands from the rest of the DJs that play alongside him. He doesn't quite hold that special place in my heart like Dumonde does, but he's quickly gaining ground. I actually enjoyed that remix of Air For Life that he played, which is strange cause I usually strongly dislike that track; it was a much more techier version, and that's probably why I could stomach it this time. It was awesome to hear Helsinki Scorchin' in a club, although I distinctly remember thinking that he should have lowered the levels a bit - the melody was just too piercing for my ears. My Loving Arms was fucking aweeesome. Been waiting to hear that track in a club, and I was pissed that I missed Tiesto purely because of that track, but Markus came through for me that night. Made my day. And clsing with Traffic, wow. I so did not expect that to be played, but it was awesome still. I know people would have bitched and complained if it was the original version because it's Tiesto and all (
), but Markus played an awesome remix of it, and the crowd ate it up (as did I).
Second Sun, what can I say. Also my 3rd time seeing them, and everytime they performed they play that Crush song towards the second half of their set, so I was thoroughly surprised when they played it towards the second half of their set. They actually started off really nice. The first few tracks were really Housey, and it worked well for them. Then they settled back into their minimalistic live-PA Trance, and it got boring.
Gielen. Honestly, I gave him a shot. After the bore-fest that he was presented with after SS left, I expected him to pick up the pace nicely, but no such luck. I must have waited for something interesting in his set to happen until like 5:20am, at which point I gave up and went home. It was the same stuff over and over and over again - waaay too many builds and breakdowns - he'll literally leave the bassline going for like 15 seconds, and then cut it and go back into the same breakdown over and over. I dunno what the "people in the know" call it, but basically it's when he'll have a synth on loop playing, and he'll bring it in briefly, and the repeat the bringing in and out with increased pace. After hearing that same pattern for like 5 songs in a row, I was just standing there rolling my eyes, and he was acting like he was inventing the wheel.
Overall, I still had an awesome time thaks to Lawrence and Schulz, but I could have left at 4, and not missed out on anything.
P.S. Sasha, apologies for missing your girl in the Orange Room. Totally slipped my mind. In my defence, I wouldn't have forgotten if you were there, so I blame you.
