Second, he was completely fucked on something, like he was clapping to the music at one point and HE WAS CLAPPING OFF BEAT!! I think that if he's required to mix two things that have a beat, that would constitute a problem. The contracts the dj's sign with the clubs should have a clause stipulating that if the dj shows up messed up, or gets messed up during the set, he doesn't get paid. End of story. Whatever happened to professionalism??

Thirdly, track selection was TERRIBLE. He kept playing songs that were just no good, like boring euro stuff, with celine dion type vocals.. ICK!!! Also, he was not building a set, he was all over the place, practically zero flow.

Fourthly, the crowd as the sketchiest I've ever seen, and I've been to quite a few guv events. And even then, it seemed like the energy in the room was ultra low.

I ended up leaving with my friends at around 3ish, or at the moment he played a shit remix of "let you go".

Overall, I give atb a 0/10. Completely abysmal, and even the two popular tracks he did play didn't get me going. I don't EVER want to see this guy again, and I feel bad for what seemed like a lot of people for whom this seemed to be their first contact with trance music.

either you went to a wrong event or everyone else did

I'm tearing up right now... i waited... let's see... 6 yrs... ever since i was introduced to trance with 9PM... to see this DJ rock the Guv.... and i was left hanging when i heard he was coming on July 8th... WHEN I'M ROTTING BACK HOME IN NAIROBI! !!! Now taht I've seen the tracklist it stings even more... i sat at home last nite and watched the few ATB videos I had on my computer and then listened to 7 Years and fell asleep thinking of the huge nite everyone in TO was havin.... BOOOOHOOOOO :'(

Time for a review, I haven't written one in a while so lets hope I do this right.

On a trance night, you can usually expect to hear some good but mainstream trance from Mark Oliver, tonight... there are no words to describe the warmup and the finisher he pulled off. If ATB wouldn't have played, this night would still be in my top 5 this year.

Showed up at 12:30, MO was still doing his warmup set, ATB came on at 1 and had the place blastin' a few mins later. As usual, center stage between the two front speakers in front of the cryo-cannon was a mosh pit, so we didnt stick around there that long. We retreated to the back, where I was dancing on the center pedestal for the REST of the night. Didn't see many TA's .. cuz I dont know any :S. Except for Infinite Eclipse, and a few buddy's of his. Hung out with him for alot of the night, wicked guy !!! All around, stayed in the main room all night, which is rare. I usually find myself hitting the Gallery to see Addy, near the ending point.

Tunes of the night :

MO : Mike Foyle feat. Signalrunners - Love Theme Dusk
MO : Super 8 VS Dj Tab - Helsinki's Scorchin
MO : And of course... he plays it everytime but Rank 1 - Airwave

ATB : Above and Beyond - Can't Sleep
ATB : Kyau VS Albert - Kiksu
ATB : Smith and Pledger - White

I must now rest, must be at King Street party at 2pm for the FIFA FINAL.

I forgot to add, Mark Oliver dropping Marcel Woods - Advanced and Marco V's - Red Blue Purple !

next time don't do so much E and pay attention to the the music asshole.
ATB was terrible, zero mixing skills or buildup for that matter, and he was clearly fucked up on something aswell.

and for the record, i would have had a much better time if dj Danny D was up there mixing, since ANYONE would've been better than ATB.

Posted by mizza318 on Jul-09-2006 17:49:

Wow what a night. This was just awesome. I came from Ottawa for this. Got there at like 11.

Was that Mark Oliver warming things up ? If so that man has some skillz when selecting tracks...sick tune after sick tune.

Umm ATB...I wasn't expecting much but he blew me away...the track selection was just ridiculous...and I am pretty sure it reflected in the crowd...everyone going crazzzy and singing along....nuuuuuuuuuuuts...It kinda sucked that he was only spinning for 2 hours...3-4 hours would of been heaven !

To the guy here saying he sucked...I dunno where you were...I hate when people bash Dj's for their mixing or w/e just enjoy the friggen music I mean thats what ppl are there for...if you want to analyze his mixing sit at home and watch the videos.

Man if anyone thinks trance is dead...shiat should of seen last night.

Anywho...I stayed there till 6 am but I wanted to stay till the end...but my friends were unable to move at point hahaha.

Yes the place was a bit overcrowded...but mainly because there were soooo many 50 year old asians...like wtf...they don't even dance they get messed up on E and hug each other...soo sketch.

Oh well second time for me in T DOT first time at the GUV (awesome venue by the way...I am counting down days till Armin n Ferry)...both time I got owned.

Hey does anyone have ATB's set from last night recorded ? Or any Mark Oliver sets ?

No buildup ? Man seriously where were you last night ? Clearly you are the only one here who thinks his stuff sucked last night.

Posted by Vogon on Jul-09-2006 18:48:

Arrived before 11 no line to enter Guv

Mark OLiver produced a sweet opening set
Reflekt featuring Delline Bass - I Need To Be Loved
Rachel Starr - Till There was You
Andy Moor - Halcyon - Great tune

ATB
sweet trance from the DJ booth. Not the hard trance usually heard at Guv, but more of a melodic beat.
I really liked this set.

Jonas Steur - Silent Waves - Loved this song. So nice to hear it at Guv
ATB - Let You Go

Crowd was a little pushy for me, so I left at 3:30

You can't expect every single person to be pleased. It's his opinion, so everyone should back off and get over it Does anything he say change what you thought about last night?...probably not.

BTW, because I don't know most of the people who attended and posted a review that means that I don't know anyone's tastes and how reliable their reviews are...so maybe if I attended and agreed with marcinm...then what? You'd bash me too? Pffffffffffffft.

this is a pretty stupid review, becuase is you don't like ATB, fair enough, don't go. But ATB delivered last night a set of what he is known for and everyone loved it. If you had done your research b4 hand, you could of gone somewhere else if melodic trance isn't your thing, but ATB delivered what we all wanted!!! And for the record his mixing was fine, and his flow was great. stop looking for dumb problems. the only thing i agree with was the crowd was pushy.

i will sign up for the voicemail tomorrow!
glad you had a great night!
wish i was there... le sigh

wat an amazing night.

starting off with a little get together at a friends house to celebrate 4 bdays was really fun. got to guv aroudn 1.30 and i could hear atb rip it up already. the line up was aroudn the corner for this guy. got in and the tunes were amazing. such melodic trance. the only thing i didnt like was that he didnt play 9pm or more of his older stuff that made him who he is now.

i must say though i like being in the guv sober, cuz right now, im probably forgetting half the night and what happened which sucks.

it was great seeing the regular TAs in full effect.

tune of the night: cafe del mar from MO

Posted by Qiang on Jul-09-2006 21:55:

I just love the melodic beat!
It's nice to see that ATB himself enjoyed it very much with his eyes closed and moving with it. I really felt it.

Dude, you got 99% of the people contributing to this thread against your dumb ass. So just call it quits, and post somewhere else. Take your sorry ass excuse for a DJ to ginogina.ca and post there.

No one gives a fuck what you have to say about ATB or his mixing skills, in the end he's in the world's top 10, and your just another sorry piece of shit bitching about his mixing skills.

Do yourself a favour, don't even respond to this reply. I've got better things to do then to put together a series of insults for your pathetic ass.

And btw, as far as my consumption of E goes..... no comment.

Posted by Sasha on Jul-09-2006 23:28:

doesnt matter how bad or good ATB was... marcinm should relax a bit! Go listen to some birds singing! well, maybe their transitions suck a little bit.. but that should help you get back into peaceful mind.

Posted by marcinm on Jul-10-2006 00:21:

I just posted what i thought about the night. If y'all had fun then that's great, I didn't say everyone thought he sucked, just myself and the people i came with.

I find it insulting that I get all sorts of ignorant "you're a gino" comments, since even if I was, what would that matter on how i judge music?

I've had fun nights seeing Armin, Tiesto, Rank1, Ferry, Nick Warren, Digweed, and many many other dj's. ATB was just terrible in my opinion.

And I love melodic trance, just so you know. It just seemed to me like 80% of his set was pulled off the b-list.

The only tracks that stuck out were:

"linking people together"
"hold you" (at this point i thought the set was going to pick up, but it didn't)
"can't sleep" (atb mix)

however, i was completely sober, and went to listen to atb as i love his production, and was sorely disappointed.

i however am happy that you went out there, got fucked on E (or what you thought was E) and had a great time.
