I thought of that while setting the holden track up for the mix. lol. Good thing I made a good loop of Ellen Allien cause I cant monitor the way I'm setup, I can only hear the master.

This is a great mix. Very Sasha-esque sound which I haven't been into for a while, but found myself getting back into it slowly.

Posted by RJT on Jul-12-2006 16:25:

Clovis, you and I need to get together very, very soon.

I'm going to refrain from a full review until I can actually sit down and focus directly on listening to this, however I can already tell you that I'm 30 minutes in and loving it more than I have many, many mixes lately.

It takes a lot for me to get excited about a mix at this point - No big names have been doing it for me at all, and honestly, you, Bas, Bobby, Greg, and Myra are the only ones providing me with anything I'll listen to more than once. As I said, I'm only 30 minutes in, but I'll tell you this is going to be on permanent repeat for a while...

Posted by Clovis on Jul-12-2006 17:34:

Give it a nice listen while baked out of your mind Rob

You'll appreciate it most then I think

Btw, my house is open to you if you guys come out west

Posted by RJT on Jul-12-2006 17:39:

Did you get my PM? I know it's kind of a weird question, but honestly, you're analysis of tracklists can sometimes stagger me...

Really good stuff man, I'm only about 15 minutes in cuz I'm still at work but like I said you are doing some very cool shit with Ableton. keep it up homey!

Posted by lcid on Jul-12-2006 22:15:

i can't wait to hear what the inside of Clovis sounds like.

Fantastic mix here, one of the few mixes from any DJ I'll have on repeat for the next couple of weeks. The Tides/On the Run mashup is the shining moment of the mix; the tracks fit perfectly together. The mixing is fantastically spot-on, and the only gripe I have is the mix into Teardrop, where the two tracks clash a bit harmonically.

It's probably one of the best mixes I've heard this year thus far, and actually reinstilled faith in the more popular side of House for me, so thanks for that.

10/10

Shameless Spam, ala Rob: Jake's summer promo comes out in two days

Posted by Clovis on Jul-12-2006 23:40:

Thanks Jake, I'm glad you liked it. I know I played a few more popular tracks but I think I took them on in my own way which is a bit different than most. I was fucking with tides and on the run before the mix and I just liked how well they fit...plus I love the girl who sings tides. Adds a bit more to On The Run cause by itself its a little dry.

Looking forward to your mix man its been taking a while

Posted by coded audio on Jul-13-2006 22:27:

Absolutely spectacular music here. Man I have got to get into the Ableton thing as you do some amazing stuff here.

Posted by coded audio on Jul-13-2006 22:30:

That Ananda release is a great one man !!

Some of the transitions are WAAAAAAAAAAAY TOOOOOOOOOO long though and a little self indulgent.

I blame being thorougly stoned at the time.

Posted by Floorfiller on Jul-14-2006 17:23:

hey clovis great set...some thoughts:

01. Popnoname - On The Run ---> Beanfield - Tides (C's Movement 1)(Carl Craig Mix)

nice overlapping on this one. i thought these tunes went great together. i did miss the main section of the tides vocals, but this worked without them . levels on each of the tunes were good too.

Beanfield - Tides (C's Movement 1)(Carl Craig Mix) ---> Dextro - Do You Need Help? (The MFA's Self Help Mix)

i agree with the couple of people that said some of the mixes are really long, but this isn't one of them. this mix flows out of the first two tracks great! it keeps things progressing nicely.

Dextro - Do You Need Help? (The MFA's Self Help Mix) ---> Tangleray - Sushi Bicycle

i think this is one of those mixes that does drag down the set a bit. the mix is a good one and the ideas are good, but the song really doesn't add anything to the set. sounds like it is mostly a space filler until you get to the next track. it is a pretty nice track, but i woulda liked to have shorten the amount of time you had it playing or edit it to keep it a little more interesting. i do really like the mix out of it though...that sounded ace (and i do realize how long out the mix into Lauschgoldengel was...i dunno if a lot of people caught that).

Tangleray - Sushi Bicycle ---> Gabriel Ananda & Cio D'or - Lauschgoldengel

like i said really liked this transition. gabriel ananda makes some interesting tunes and this one keeps with the feel of the set, but is interesting to listen to. and the mix was a good one they worked well together.

Gabriel Ananda & Cio D'or - Lauschgoldengel ---> Ellen Alien - My Body Is Your Body (Kiki Mix)

another great transition here. great example of how a really long mix can still be interesting. i mean you basically had them mixed the entire first half of my body is your body (well at least kept that one loop)...i also really like when you decided to pull it out after the breakdown that worked really well. and the levels on the sample were good...they didn't really intrude on the ellen alien track.

Ellen Alien - My Body Is Your Body (Kiki Mix) ---> Blackstrobe - Nazitrancefuckoff (James Holden Mix)

not my favorite mix in the mix, but it works. i guess it's just a personal taste issue here because i really don't like the way that bassline from nazitrancefuckoff sounds. at least it seems to really be difficult to mix into other songs with out it sounding jarring and muddled. listening to it a couple of times though...it seems to work pretty well. but at least it didn't last very long...

i don't have time to finish at the moment i got a busy weekend so i'll finish up in a couple of days

Posted by D-res on Jul-14-2006 17:45:

Thumbs up

I clearly dont spend enough time in the DJ Promotion section. D/ling this right now dude. looking forward to this

Posted by Lebezniatnikov on Jul-14-2006 18:38:

I've run through this set at least three or four times already, and I have to say, it's about the third solo set from you I've heard, and you never fail to bring the quality. A real joy to listen to. I realllly dig the sound you create too. Much more interesting than a lot of the mainstream stuff out there right now.

Posted by Clovis on Jul-14-2006 19:12:

Thanks guys, and thanks Jason...looking forward to the rest of your review

Posted by weymouth on Jul-14-2006 23:39:

Not bad dude. Bass is a little heavy at times and some volume issues. The mix to 6 - 7 is really messy and too long, I don't really care for my body is your body though so it might be that. Wavy Gravy, doesn't fit very well at the end either. I loved the first 5 tunes and their mixing but from 6 on I think you could have done better. Good stuff anyways, I'm not too familiar with these tunes and that is great. I love the Beanfield and Detro tunes.
