-- I got my Ultra3 2001 ticket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm, I don't want to be harsh or anything, but comparing this event with the Loveparade is insulting the parade ... an indoor (is it ? I'm not sure) event hosting 30 000 people can NOT be compared to an outdoor festival and 1.5 million party-goers !!!
About the lineup, sure it looks very spectacular on paper, but it is very commercial-trance oriented and there doesn't seem to be that much variety. Sure, I like trance but I'd also like to hear other styles of music be equally represented at a party (sure there's the odd DJ representing most styles, but they're clearly the minority). Also consider that if the party will last 12hrs, every DJ will have a set between 45 & 60 minutes. I don't know about you but for me that is the worst thing about a party like this - you would just start getting into the groove of one particular DJ and then they switch behind the decks ... AGRH - especially if they stop the previous DJ's set so they can start theirs.
Also think about the fact that many DJs you'd like to see will have conflicting timeslots so you can either run around the venue trying to catch a little of each set, or you can just stay in one room and really get into the set but you'll always keep thinking abou missing the other performer.
Well, the prices ... if the capacity will be 30 000, that means that the promoter will have about 2 million revenue (not including advertising and various other corporate sponsors). That just makes my head spin ... since it is totally bastardizing the concept of raves (I could start rambling about small intimate parties, wicked vibe and so on but that's WAY off topic).
But yeah, to everybody who's going I hope you have fun and please do report how it was...
peace
Beggers can't be choosers.... I mean really North America needs more events like this but with not as many DJ's packed in at once.... Its a start I guess, but you would be insane to miss it.. For all those people who've never seen most of these DJs live it will be an amazing experience even if its only for 1hr sets...
But I fear if events like this get more popular then the infamous capitalism here will bastardize all the future events just like they did that last woodstock... We need to keep these events in the hands of good promoters if thats even possible
Cheers,
Thor.....
PS .... We want pictures, and lots of them!
HELP!!!!
I NEED tickets!!! where can I get them?? Someone help! I really don't want to miss this one. I went to groovemanrecords.com and nothing came up. Can I write an online check for them or do I have to pay with a credit card? When are they expected to sell out?? PLEASE someone help!

Hey Skywarp let us have our fun and stop bitching about...If you dont like it then move to Germany..I am sure it cant compare to Loveparade but its a start..And 50 bucks aint shit to me..I aint cheap...
ok skywarp... let chill
i have been in contact with mr. Paul van Dyk.
his set is assigned to be at 11:00 PM @ the Main Stage.
for about 1 hour or 2. Also. 7 Arenas.
like 10 DEEjays per arena. as you can see. you can have a deejay for 1 or 2 hours set. that would be cool. for PvD, a 10 minute sets would make me happy man.
i must see that man spinnin...
chill out
Sweet!
heh for 60 bucks that's sweet, tight man, that's like 100+ bucks worth, heh i was looking at the news, in order for jennifer lopez to play at ur birthday party it's 750,000 dollars, heh for backstreet crap it's 1 million.
no sh*t!?
heh
i preffer pay 10k to PvD or Tiesto and i will like best
:-)

Hmm, it seems that a lot of people are misinterpreting my posts (or at least not really reading them). How else should I explain all this hostility - I never said that the party is going to be bad, that people shouldn't go or that it is too expensive ? All I did is voice my opinion that I don't think the party is worth that much and that I wouldn't really consider going since that kind of event isn't really my thing. Since when can't you spill your thoughts on this board without everybody else jumping down your throat if you disagree with the popular opinion ... damn !
trance[]control-fan, not wanting to shell out $60 for a party isn't being cheap - it is just chosing who you want to support by buying the tickets for their events. I sure as hell don't want to support a massive party mainly due to a lot of shadyness and politics going on behind the scenes, not to mention elitism this type of event creates (VIP room ? c'mon !). And about the love parade - been there ('99) and I must tell you it isn't all that it's cracked up to be, although I probably won't live to see an event of such proportions in North America come even close to the atmosphere.
About that DJ set length thing, as far as I'm concerned I prefer a long (2hrs minimum) set both when listening to one and when spinning. Any less time doesn't give the DJ the opportunity to feel out the crowd and to take them on a musical journey. When they have only one hour, most DJs just play a boring and uninspired, formulaic cookie-cutter set and bang out a whole bunch of anthems, mainly to please the crowds - especially at an event of such proportions. A lot of people seem to enjoy this, but I unfortunately don't. Smaller parties (with longer timeslots) usually attract a more open-minded crowd and the DJs play their sets accordingly - more experimental and daring.
It is interesting to see that a lot of people here suffer from the "Superstar DJ" syndrome. The DJs are supposed to be anonymous and the music is meant to be in the foreground - not the other way around! The anonymity of the performer is one of the reasons that attracted me to electronic music in the first place, but that seems to be disappearing real fast. I'd rather have a wicked time at a small intimate rave with 200 kids I know and with DJs that truly love what they're doing than go to a party in a big hall with 30 000 anonymous strangers and having highly paid superstars behind the decks.
But that's just me ... like I said, I hope everybody has a wicked time at the party.
peace

MARCH MADNESS
I'm not sure people grab the full gist of whats going here. This event is perhaps the biggest and craziest to ever hit North American shores. The Ultra3 party is just one event in an incredibly disgusting weeklong meeting of the worlds best DJs. Regardless of what music or how commercial you want to get, there absolutely everything in Miami that week. The whole focus of the event is to promote electronic music and especially lesser known talent.
Its all under the huge Winter Music Conference transpiring through the entire week. Go to www.wmcon.com or check out http://216.234.186.211/ubb/Forum8/HTML/000834.html
for a little taste of whats taking place in good ol' Miami. This thing has been nuts in the past and this year its goin absolutely out of control!!!
Here in T.O. we're seriously talkin about makin the trip, a little long weekend for some good ol' fashioned insanity. We're lookin for others in the area who might be interested, let me know!
