all we've been seeing is it gaining popularity. It hasn't had time yet to even begin to grow old. Though to many scenesters the farting bassline's days are certainly numbered which isn't all too bad since there's plenty more good in electro. Giorgio Moroder certainly managed without any farting basslines!
For anyone who plays it though you certainly have to know HOW to play it.. because jesus christ if someone canes it for 2+ hrs straight it does my head in. It's like butter. Great on toast, in pasta sauces, and many things.. but not the best idea to sit down with a bowl of it and consume it til you get sick!

Minimal is already beginning to die a death.

There is so much shit being released in that mould it's unbelievable.

Posted by noikeee on Jul-14-2006 09:30:

i guess this would be a perfect time for Armin and Tiesto to start playing it

honestly, i liked this fad since the beggining, i still do, but it's been beaten to death and there's so been so much shit released out there to take advantage of it. and when i mean so much, i mean SO FUCKING MUCH. so perhaps it's better for it to die.

uhmm yes it has, since 2005 most Djs have had crap tracklists with "electro" house. Thats long enough to get old, especially if every other DJ is playing it.

Theres shit being released in every single genre...the good DJ's will continue to find good music to play and the shit ones will lag and jump on a bandwagon later.

I've noticed that Sasha, Digweed, Howells etc have all stopped playing much electro...tech/minimal/prog and fusions of all three are being played more often...

Yeah, but since this is the 'in' thing, or atleast was until recently, the amount of people trying to cash in on it is overwhelming. I mean, I like the stuff, yet if I go to Juno and listen to the latest releases, it's a ratio of 70 shit records to 1 genuine good one. That's why I haven't cared for new releases in a while.

Bound to happen... More mainstream house is going to go in two directions

1. To the more minimal side of things

2. To the deeper/more natural side of things

I just hope some of it it goes a little more to the side of how more popular house was in 2002ish.

It sounds exactly like Kraftwerk.

Kraftwerk - It's More Fun To Compute (1981)
Dark Vektor - Cyan (2006)

we are going to be seeing electro for a while.

I am. You are not.

Heh, how many names does this make for him now? I'm thinking about 20 or so.

Still, his posts in MD are usually stellar.

How about you, for once, get over the fact that people are calling this crap 'electro' and start being constructive?

+1

And to the original poster...electro clash is nothing like electro house...just an fyi...

That's not very useful. Why don't you help me help you. Help me help you. Help ME help YOU. On a scale of zero to one-hundred, zero being the least constructive and one-hundred being the most constructive, how constructive would you like me to be? Here, I drew you a constructive scale to show you what I mean:

I'd like you to move above -25.

Don't thank me. MS Paint helped me help you help me.

One can only hope it's on the way out. I, for one, hope it ends up aping minimalism and making a fool of itself in the process.

Time to start paying attention to techno. Big things are happening when the word "trance" is no longer taboo.

+1. Is it losing popularity? Yes. Are elements of it being incorporated into other things, without having a "1 John Dahlback release every 20 minutes" minimum? Yes. It's not going to die and it's not going to be as overwhelmingly used as it was. There are more than 2 possibilities.

Agreed. It was starting to become the new progressive house -a house I am not in to. Luckily it wasn't meant to be. I hope the days of John Creamer & Stephane K, Lemon8, and Subsky type of prog. house return!

+1, i need more subsky and creamer & k

First, thank you for comparing 2 different tracks.. one of which is BREAKBEAT! Secondly, thanks for pointing out the need to have to spell it out: the new stuff (ie: the whole farting bassline sound, not the glitchy weird minimal shit) doesn't sound much like Kraftwerk. Take Freeform 5 - No more conversations (mylo rmx) for example.. one of the biggest anthems of this modern electro.. and compare that with kraftwerk.

thanks for the brilliant insight! Tiring to have to point out the obvious, but we are talking about this RECENT resurgence of electro and current form of it which isn't just going to disappear tomorrow.
