-- Seriously now... Would you every buy a Hyundai?
Pages (2): « 1 [2]
gawk! i wouldnt get a hyundai even if i won (hah) one, or had my parents get me one. If i did come across one I would simply sell it and put the money towards a real car. Like a Geo or a Metro
..yea i know u all want a geo or a metro too..
never.
i understand when people cant afford much and want a new car...so there's the only excuse i'll let slide for buying a Hyundai, although they are somewhat reliable.

My mum just bought a 96 elantra for 600$ (USD) The insurance on it is SO much higher just because its a hyundai. I'm going to be using it for a while though.

Have you had your lincence for long? When you first start driving, insurance is a lot higher

nope.. thats honest too.. they need to gain a much better repuatation for even a small consideration
Nothing says smooth wheels like a Hyundai Pony! . Now THAT is a suuuuuweet machine.
haha.
Need I say more about Hyundai?

| Originally posted by DJ El Kay Dee heres how it goes...mitsubishi opened up a long time back and then they merged with Chrysler..not sure when...then their cars were powered by dodge engines..if u should know, the stealth,galant,eclipse,3000gt and the Laser all had one thing in common.....the engines were 90 percent based on the Mitsubishi Galant..which was designed by Dodge.. the DaimlerChrysler merger took place only in the late 90s (98 if i remember correctly) and thats when Daimler Benz(IE all Mercedes,Daimler Cars) merged with Chrysler (Dodge,Chrysler,Plymouth,Mitsubishi, Eagle, Geo etc.) anyway..im not sure if all my info is correct but this is how i have followed up on cars for a long time |
Mitsu and Dodge never "merged".... they shared engines and platforms. a "merger" would be what happened to Daimler and Chrysler. Mitsubishi is not part of their conglomerate. Dodge does hold a percentage ownership of Mitsubishi, but its nothing worth looking at and not hardly controlling interest.

Same would go for mitsubishis and hondas... the ones you get come from different factories and you have different models in europe. So quality obviously is going to be different..... anyway, thats something to think about.

it's true about overseas cars (for most of u overseas) being better..
that is the reason less then 5 percent of the cars sold in holland is americans (ford over here is considered as german... ford europe etc. blablabla)
but cars sold here as cryslers are dodge's in the states, or cars sold here as opel/vauxhall are (or atleast 1 is) sold as cadillac..
I'm really curious about the quality of the american ford focus'... wonder if it is just as good as ours...
btw: we europeans HATE cars with a bad build/finish quality. when we touch a dashboard, we want it to feel smooth and nice and when we look at it we dont want to see pure plastic but we want to wonder what the stuff is AND when we knock on the dash we DONT want to hear any cracking (dash is saying: I can hold that, but if you do that ONCE more I will fall off...that really sux) but just a solid sound
what I've heard we europeans are asking the best buildquility... waaaaaay more than for example americans..
or like some american carmanufacturer once said (about the american market): give them extra's which the can directly see and use, instead of worrying about the handling and stuff like that.
I, personally, HATE such remarks
but luckely enough I get this idea that americans also want more and more a wellhandling, direct driving car
about those 'extra's': things like automatic seatbelts and loads of other features are almost unknown around here...

Dodge does hold a percentage ownership of Mitsubishi, but its nothing worth looking at and not hardly controlling interest. And yes, they did share engines and platforms in the early to mid nineties, thats what i had said. Now what biznology said about the Avenger/Eclipse, could be true. I haven't really bothered to look into that or read about that, as i hate both cars ![]() And you have to be careful when you say another car manufacturer "designed" a car for another.... usually its the free-lance designers that have worked with another manufacturer before that are currently designing this "other" car.... not necessarily a car coming from the other's "Design Studios". By the way i'd like to see where you got your information from about the "Stealth, 3000GT, Laser, Eclipse, and Galant all having the same engine" from..... because that is not true. Oh yeah and Geo is not part of Daimler Chrysler (never was).... ex-indie manufacturer got bought by GM (who let them run a couple more years) before merging them into Chevrolet. ![]() And to everyone else: remember that these cars are all different in different countries, even IF they are the same nameplate. Perfect example of this is Ford.... Fords are totally more decent overseas than in America, and they started here! You think Fords (note: NOT fjords) are bad in europe? wait till you see them over here! Same would go for mitsubishis and hondas... the ones you get come from different factories and you have different models in europe. So quality obviously is going to be different..... anyway, thats something to think about. ![]() ![]() -ABT- |

you're not "sooooo" wrong... just partially

hey just an interesting note...
was reading the journal today and independent researchers claim that the big 3 (gm, chrysler, ford, i thinks that's the big 3 i could be wrong) have squandered all the money they made in the 80's on expansion and acquiring other companies where as japanese companies honda and toyota have spent more money in quality assurance and making their plants more efficient.
the article was basically talking bout how imports are slowly taking away market shares from domestics in N. america. just something i thought i would share
