Shit ain't gonna happen, when the city voted ... it's done. It's sad to see the Docks get fucked up like this, honestly it really does.

There's an appeal/review process. This isn't (might not be) done.

Count me in Jay.

And about location ... I think we should try to hit up both the ferry terminal and city hall. March down Bay Street. See if we can protest outside the terminal long enough to fuck up the schedule etc.

i dont speak for all, but i'm assuming 90% of us are done with our 'raves' - and it's a seperate issue all together. why is someone a crackhead for wanting to prevent something that can be saved, rather than letting it all fall apart..... sure big parties would be nice, but the biggest concern here is 'parties' in general.

Naw, Tiesto is going to Circa ... nothing to do with us. Like I said before, I hate you Lisa.

Really, protesting ain't gonna do much. Look at how long the ppl on the island have bitched for? I think the city is just annoyed and wants to shut them up. It's really unfair ....

You're sad aren't you Jeff. You were hoping Sonic could scoop him up.

No Tiesto bashing here - I like my fair share of Tiesto...but I wish he wouldn't be around so much. He has the same booking agent as Ferry...so the more Tiesto we have, the less Ferry

well it's better than nothing.

Stupid Islanders - as if our tourism is lacking as it is.

im already in contact with city hall and the police. Once i get the details from them on what to do ill pass that on. Id like to strike while the iron (the media) is hot. So the sooner the better. Hopefully tomorrow but more than likely thurs or fri.

BTW i want this to be the least disruptive as possible. I know that personally whenever someone's protest disrupts my daily life they usually automatically lose my support. I think disrupting people's lives is the most negative thing we could do. Lets stand there with signs and hope the media shows up. Lets be on our best behaviour and speak intelligently. No swearing and no stupid comments. Thats the absolute best way to influence people who may not otherwise care.

its time we stop letting these assholes push us around. Im serious about this as long as we get enough committment from people.

I dont work for the docks. In fact they are the competition. But this could eventually put me out of work later on down the road as well so i must support them.

for me its my paycheque. For you its your right to enjoy the lifestyle you choose to live.

Who is with me?

I'm in for this

Why are you trying to influence people anyhow? If this goes anywhere its going to be a Superior Court Judge that we need to influence ... I say "we" but I guess I really mean "they".

people vote... people who vote have the power to make anything an election issue. This is also an election year. If politicians feel that most people are on our side they will change their tune very quickly.

Good post Jay. The best way to show them that you're serious and should be respected is to TAKE the protest seriously. Have it be in an organized fashion and professional manner.

btw somebody post this on tribe!

City counsellors don't have ANY control over the Liquor Licensing Board of Ontario ...... neither does any political body.

Posted by basilisk on Jul-25-2006 19:27:

I saw the news and knew TAs would be sobby over this... OH the injustice of it all!

Let's frame this whole debate once again, shall we?

YOUR right to get fucked up and dance at a waterfront megaclub VS 400 Island residents getting some fucking peace and quiet!

No wonder they're irritable; have you ever gone without sleep, perpetually? WITHOUT chemical assistance?

All right, that's enough trolling. I'd be pissed off too if it weren't a crappy mainstream EDM superclub y'arr!

oh they have influence... and city hall as well as the province makes the rules. The AGCO just enforces them on their behalf

the right of 400 people to hold jobs, 10s of thousands of people who want to have a place to go to unwind. Versus a small group of whiney people who expect a peice of land next to the biggest city in canada to be as peaceful as canada's hinterland.

Docks is just the latest in their hitlist.

Lets not forget the Island airport, Wakestock, Redpath sugar, boat cruises among other things they have bitched about (and gotten their own way on)

And this isnt just about the docks. The king-spadina people are already salivating at the new powers they could potentuially have because of this.

Posted by cono_sur on Jul-25-2006 19:32:

This should be interesting. I can't wait to see this on the news.

You really don't get it do you? Lifting the rave protocal will allow you to have a large scale event in Toronto .... large meaning 18,000 + at the CNE again. Regardless if it's all ages or not.

I'm just as upset as everyone here ... it's sad we loose a venue like that. The Docks is one of my fav venue of all time from the first time I stepped in there in 95 for a rave.

There are many other clubs in Toronto which remain open. 400 people holding jobs vs 400 people living - doesn't seem like much of a toss-up to me. The Island airport expansion was stupid anyway, and they still let plenty of big concerts and events go on. What's this about King-Spadina people?
