I could add in that a mate of mine was speaking to one of the other Djs playing that night in the GK tent, who showed him a photo on his phone of the printed out Dj set times list that was "back stage" for the Djs to look at - which didnt have PVD on it, had Eddie - and when my mate asked where PVD was, the other Dj said "He cancelled because he couldnt get the set time he wanted".

But then I guess the other Dj could have been making it up.

Whatever is said, PVD took GG off his schedule on his website over a week ago and it wasnt mentioned to the people buying tickets until it was too late - however you look at it, that stinks, ill family or not.

Posted by pvdclubber on Aug-01-2006 11:23:

i get to speak to quite a few people in the industry and have had a fair share to do with uk event promoters.

a lot of them are very unprofessional,
pvd wouldn't cancel a big show like this and upset many of his fans without reason,

with respect to the 1,000,000 dollar ibiza gigs,

if you knew pvd well you'd know he doesn't decide his gigs depending on cash,

pvd still plays 600 capacity venues where you only pay 8 euros, about 6 quid to get in,

i'm probably gonna get the stick for this coz i've got a pvd sig, but most people on this forum know nothing about how pvd is.

you mostly get fed the shy but assumed arrogant pvd abroad,

if you could speak german and were to follow his actions in germany,
charity work, political ambitions, small german gigs then you would see that he has not lost touch with reality,

abroad pvd is a guest like anybody else would be, he likes playing to his fans abroad, but he has to rely on promotion channels like any other dj,

and quite frankly loads of foreign promoters suck,

especially in the u.k. quite often people don't get paid etc.

anybody heard of the Ahead fiasco??

pvd cancelled coz he couldn't get his set time, pathetic!!!

if you look on his website you'll see that the barcelona gig the day before was cancelled too.

family is more important than money!!!!

I dont think anyone is disputing that.

The bottom line is though, the clubbers didnt get to find out until the day of the event, when they were in there, that PVD wasnt coming - and that isnt acceptable.

I don't think PVD is without blame in this.

Ultimately it is GK's responsibility to tell the clubbers as it's their event, they didn't, most likely because they didn't want to lose money. Which is wrong, yeh.

However, please don't make out that PVD is some kind of saint, because unless whichever family member it was fell ill just a few hours before the event then he could have put out the same statement that was put out a LOT earlier and chose not to.

mmmhh,

you ever thought that somebody might be ill, recover a bit and then get really seriously ill again, so that you would like to be on their side, coz they might die soon

especially if it's an old frail person?

That already happened with his grandpa a few months back.

But please, I only made this thread as an announcement for those who went to GKGG, not for it to turn into a Emo Delight.

i do agree on the point that global annouced pvd's absense too late to save their tickets sales,

that sucks

Although, a profeesional DJ is payed well to do their job and it will leave a scar on the dance music commutity in that location. I know if he cancelled on a party I was going to attend I know I'd be devistated. Especially, as he does not visit Australia that often.

He was supposed to play at godskitchen in dublin in march and cancelled cos his mother died . I was disapointed

Posted by pvdclubber on Aug-01-2006 12:17:

wasn't that his granddad,

if it was his mum he'd have a few months off

I am sure PVD was too.

The fact that they had Eddie Halliwell, who wasnt anywhere else on the lineup, there ready to fill PVDs shoes means they knew in advance.
Theres about as much chance that they just happened to get hold of Eddie on the phone and he said "sure I'll come play!" as there was of booking him on the off chance that someone MIGHT pull out.
They knew in plenty of time and just hushed it up.
No big surprise, its what promoters do.

Ironically, it was Eddie who didnt show up at Dance Valley despite being on the list.
(not that I lost any tears over THAT)

not true. he cancelled a show in Milwaukee a few years ago because he got booked to play several consecutive unannounced gigs in Ibiza that were going to pay $1,000,000. his excuse for cancelling on his US shows was because he contracted a case of food poisoning and his manager and/or "doctor" recommended he not travel.

not only that, but first he rescheduled and pushed the show to a different date about a week later, then cancelled like a day or 2 before the rescheduled date.

there was a huge article in one of the local papers here, interviewing the guy who was in charge of promoting the show and how he basically just got fucked over.

well damn.. that's kind of shady sounding... I guess I like to give him the benefit of the doubt though, I don't know the guy.

Here we go

Now just play a cd and keep stopping it every few seconds and make some weird noises and you pretty much got it.

Or you can just download his sets in video or audio format if that keeps you happy.

It's worse for me, I'm only 19 and I haven't been to see him yet. I enjoy his music and productions very much but I would appreciate it more if saw him live.

Grow up.

Tip: You don't 'fix' peoples' quotes unless you know and understand them enough to be able to mock them.

You don't know well enough to mock. You've just pigeon-holed me as a typical fangirl and you're an idiot for doing this.

^^ A perfect example of Fanboy/Fangirl Syndrome.

Unlike me, if PVD reads or posts in TA, I'd stay cool, because I know better. Extreme fanboys/girls lack 2 things; respect and empathy towards their hero.

This month it's his mum, next his father, then his grandad, then his dog skip that he's had since he was just a boy, then his grandma, then aunt Sally, and so forth and so on...

I don't buy any of it, but the unabashed fanboy support that the PVD fans in this thread are throwing out there has been great for a laugh!

Um... PVD's dad left him and his mum when he was very young. He doesn't know him

Oh, I do, but 'fixing' me isn't going to make me laugh.

Just don't do it again.

But you see we DO know you well enough to mock you. Odds are you're the single most one dimensional poster on these forums, interestingly enough making you one of the easiest people to mock.

Perhaps when you realize there is a world of dance music beyond Paul van Dyk the task of mocking you will become a bit more difficult, but until then...

It's OK. I'm still a little paranoid with this kind of thing. I had a flaming from Mikey Mike and I was like and then

Yes, I do think PvD is hot but only to the extent most girls would like him. I still appreciate his music more.

That's when you lost track of me. You've got 2 years to catch up with this, despite the fact I haven't been here for that long.
