it always gets worse with time it seems

I personally can't understand how people can like electro, its utter shit imo.

+ i can't believe that people actually like it just because someone else decides its the next big thing

people should listen to what they like and dont follow any bandwagon.

Posted by Stanza on Jul-30-2006 13:07:

That's exactly right there Benni. Very sad to see this happen.
It is extremely tragic when you see Dj's that used to play progressive house are now spinning cheesy electro house anthems

Posted by basd on Jul-30-2006 13:12:

I can't see minimal (both actual minimal and all of the German productions getting the minimal label slapped on for no good reasons) really getting any bigger, at least not over here. It's pretty big already.

Posted by zoric on Jul-30-2006 13:16:

I hope it's going to be Prog-psy, but under one condition. So the producers continue to produce quality tracks/albums.

it usually isn't like that

what gets popular gets massproduced and turns shit, we all know that the biggest crowd out there has a shit taste in music (ofcourse imo )

Posted by Zombie0915 on Jul-30-2006 13:45:

I have been noticing this same thing, that minimal is already huge, so if you think it has peaked, then what is next, what is on the rise right now?

I got into alot of those netlabels which had kinda "minimal" (notice the quotes) sounds in them and they have that sound going back for a few years now, that and I have seen lots of old interviews and articles and stuff about it. But then again, electro kinda did this same thing, people thought it had peaked in 2002 and were already trying to move on, but since then it has grown even bigger. There was alot of talk with electro about how it was "the next big thing that never actually happened" but I think we can assume that it has happened now. Maybe minimal will do the same thing, like we are thinking it is over but really has just begun.

I want to see more stuff like this.

that's ridicolous. if progpsy goes popular it's going shit for sure. that's pure logic.

can you please define "shit taste in music"?... I'm just curious

Posted by noikeee on Jul-30-2006 15:07:

Maybe something new will come out of minimal, but sure as hell it can't get much further as a buzzword. The minimal bandwagon started pretty much simultaneous with "electro", which is past its prime already.

I'd rather bet on a trance revival. Whether it'll come out of "neotrance" or from somewhere else, it's too soon to predict.

A random long shot I just thought of might be drum'n'bass, haven't heard absolutely anything drum'n'bass in ages, surely it'll come back strong someday?

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Jul-30-2006 15:14:

Minimal is already suffering the backlash in Europe, before North America has even caught on. My bet is we'll soon be on to 90s nostalgia. The 70s are long gone and the 80s are getting boring- in a couple of years old-skool hardcore and grunge will be the big sound everyone's imitating.

Posted by Az on Jul-30-2006 15:22:

the whole "electro" resurgence began and ended with Alter Ego - Rocker
there's a lot of clicky minimal bullshit about, and too few artists are brave enough to stick to a style nowadays and ride it through. People like Claude VonStroke and John Tejada are really doing it for me at the minute, no bullshit, just classy, druggy music. The MFA as well, after seeing their live show a few weeks ago, the future looks bright for all things Border Communist.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Jul-30-2006 15:24:

Isn't Rocker actually a track from a few years ago that enjoyed a resurgence when the electro scene took off. If you put its original release about 2000 time and its popularity peak in 2004/5 then yeah, it pretty much book-ends the "electro" revival.

Posted by Az on Jul-30-2006 15:27:

it was released in 2004

hell yeah i totally agree! ive got mad respect for the djs that didnt jump on the bandwagon...

and im missing the boat here, but wtf is minimal? somebody post a link or something to a "minimal" track plz!!!

>JM<

Posted by noikeee on Jul-30-2006 15:33:

I don't see "clicky minimal bullshit" as something completely apart from "electro", i think the market is completely flooded with crap records in between these two loose definitions. I do think Rocker was a mark in all this and pretty much started the bandwagon or at least gave it a big push though.

As for Border Community, they started great, but altho I haven't been following them that much lately, I don't think they've been that hot, Dextro - Do You Need Help (MFA Remix) was the last killer track I've heard from them.

that was just my opinion... I tend not to like the music which the big crowd goes for

Hmm. Could of swore I read it was an old track in Mixmag.

In that case, I don't agree with you. The electro-clash scene goes back to 2000 at least.

Posted by Lebezniatnikov on Jul-30-2006 15:41:

Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I really feel like the sort of melodic house that dj's like Masiello, Porter, Luke Fair, and Saeed are spinning could become a big thing very shortly. If it isn't already that is.

I don't give a fuck whether you agree with me or not, you're a well known clown, disagreeing with me adds weight to my argument

What the hell is your problem? Have I done something wrong in this thread?

You can fuck off if you're gonna act like that. You're quite clearly talking shit as there's been an electro revival well prior to 2004.

Posted by luisjb82 on Jul-30-2006 15:55:

here we go...

Well I don't get it. All I said was I disagreed. Electro had been moving back into dance music in various forms well before Rocker or its imitations. Now if he means something different to that, all he needs to say is "No, I mean..."

Instead I get a fistful of bullshit for my troubles.

you were basing your statements on something you read in mixmag for a start.
The electro clash scene has been around since the 80's, Miss Kittin et al have given it a bit of a reworking, but there was certainly no revival until Kinda New and Rocker came about. The scene exploded in the space of 6/8 months and was quite literally fucking everywhere
