He's not too bad of a manager, what makes me worry the most is that he had his chance at Benfica a couple years ago and did nothing.

It's been widely known for a couple of days altho only "officially" confirmed today, i just couldn't be arsed to update the thread

Tomorrow we're playing the supercup against Setbal, assistant manager Rui Barros will be still in charge.

Posted by noikeee on Aug-19-2006 22:35:

3-0 win and it's the 15th supercup in the club's history. impressive since the trophy has only been played for 28 times!

3 great goals - Adriano with a bycicle kick, Anderson with a first touch placed shot, and Vieirinha with a powerful one to the top corner from just outside the area. Man of the match: Anderson, a couple of nices passes and dribbling.

Posted by zoric on Aug-19-2006 22:43:

Adriano is sick, he scored on a bicycle kick against Inter aswell.

Posted by noikeee on Aug-19-2006 22:52:

Err no, that was Marek Cech.

Adriano is far from sick, he's an idiot who somehow by miracle keeps on scoring goals. The bike kick today only went in cause he didn't hit the ball well.

Posted by zoric on Aug-19-2006 23:27:

I always thought it was Adriano.

You know your team a lot better, I guess..

Posted by noikeee on Aug-20-2006 12:26:

on the goal against Inter, right after it the tv director focused the camera on Adriano instead of Cech.. that's where the confusion came from

FC Porto 2-1 U. Leiria (goals by Adriano and Quaresma). w00t

Playing away with Amadora later on today, their stadium has some constructions going on so the game will be at Benfica's place. Jesualdo will play a 4-3-3 for the first time, with the serious injuries of Pedro Emanuel and Joo Paulo it means we'll have to lineup a shit centre-back, probably Bruno Alves.

Likely lineup as reported by the press: Helton; Bosingwa, Pepe, Bruno Alves e Cech; Lucho, Paulo Assuno e Anderson; Alan, Adriano e Sektioui.

2 differences in the actual lineup.

We won 3-0, all goals in the 2nd half. 1st half was quite poor, we dominated but couldn't create chances. The win started with a ridiculous owngoal by Rui Duarte, we held on well the 1-0 for a while thanks to a very inoffensive Amadora, until Meireles scored the 2nd with a superb long range effort. Things were easier in the last few minutes and Lucho scored the 3rd in a counter-attack.

Man of the match today was Anderson IMO. Very creative and consistent. Just 2 more small remarks: Ibson got injured after coming in for Meireles, and had to be replaced by Paulo Assuno. The other substitute in was Hlder Postiga, a return after a long time since he last played for us.

Posted by fastmp3 on Sep-10-2006 21:42:

how's sektioui ? what do you guys think of him so far ?

Posted by noikeee on Sep-10-2006 22:05:

He's quite good with the ball in the ground: dribbles well, makes nice combinations with other players, finds himself in good positions to shoot (altho he doesn't seem to be a great finisher). The problem is that his crosses are terrible, and that's a major flaw for a winger.

Nevertheless he seems to be settled in the starting 11.

Naval 0-2 Porto

Naval: Taborda; Mrio Srgio, Paulo, Gacho (Cazarine, 73m) e China; Gilmar, Orestes e Pedro Santos (Tony, 53m); Fajardo (Saulo, 53m), Nei e Lito

FC Porto: Helton; Bosingwa, Pepe, Bruno Alves e Cech; Lucho, Paulo Assuno e Anderson (Vieirinha, 79m); Quaresma; Adriano (Jorginho, 65m) e Hlder Postiga (Lisandro, 73m)

Goalscorers: Marek Cech (10m), Mrio Srgio (26m, own goal)

w00t.

1st half OK, 2nd half dullsville.
You guys seem to get lucky with the defenders you encounter, one per game decides to score a goal on his own net...

Oh, and IMO, Sektioui (or Tarik, as everyone in this damn country likes to call him) is below average. But I can't talk much...

Paulo Jorge, Manu, Marco Ferreira..

But yeah, Tarik's last 2 matches were terrible. He wasn't on the team against Naval, and I'm not expecting to see him back anytime soon.

Posted by nettwerk on Sep-19-2006 23:14:

I have yet a bit of confidente in Manu (for last season) and Paulo Jorge (meh, new kid. Whatever). Not on Marco Ferreira. I mean, if he was any good, he wouldn't be loaned to Guimares and Penafiel, when he was on Porto...
... and Sektioui used to play, some years ago, on Martimo (you should remember him - even though he only played 2 games). If he wasn't good enough to attract Porto then, heh... blame Jakobus' hiring policy (Sonkaya...).

Posted by noikeee on Sep-20-2006 00:20:

As far as I know he failed at Maritimo because he had a serious injury, didn't stay here for long.

Posted by fastmp3 on Sep-20-2006 01:22:

trust me when i say he sucks (tarik), i really mean it lol

it was a big surprise when i heard he signed for porto

Posted by nettwerk on Sep-21-2006 00:07:

Jacobus' great signings... then he leaves so that someone else can deal with his screw-ups.

Great to see Postiga back to form, been a loooooooooong time. Brilliant work in the first goal. Anderson and Lisandro were two excellent subs at half-time.

Video with the goals:

And finally, here's a picture of our friend Tarik Sektioui who unlikely managed to score our 3rd goal friday:

Difficult game for the Champions League next tuesday, on Arsenal's field.

Posted by fastmp3 on Sep-24-2006 22:40:

nice goal from tarik

Posted by nettwerk on Sep-25-2006 13:27:

Good (and expected) win Also nice to see that Porto supporters haven't forgotten his second-ever goalscorer from all times...

Heh, for us, yet another astonishing result. Is there any other team in Europe with as much red cards as points? Fernando Santos 4 president!

Posted by noikeee on Sep-25-2006 18:13:

Fernando Santos is not exactly a great manager (perhaps the only to have managed Porto, Benfica and Sporting and been hated by fans of all 3 clubs ), but i don't think he's to blame for this result. Lots of important players missing in the team, and conceding a goal out of the blue in overtime is just bad luck.

Posted by zoric on Sep-26-2006 20:55:

Arsenal was too tough tonight, 2:0.

Posted by noikeee on Sep-26-2006 21:47:

Arsenal 2-0 FC Porto

Arsenal - Lehman, Ebou, Tour, Gallas (Song, 93), Hoyte, Gilberto, Fabregas, Hleb (Walcott, 86), Rosicky, Van Persie (Ljungberg, 74) e Thierry Henry.

FC Porto - Helton, Bosingwa, Pepe, Bruno Alves, Ricardo Costa (Raul Meireles, 46), Paulo Assuno, Cech, Lucho, Anderson (Adriano, 66), Quaresma e Hlder Postiga (Lisandro, 46).

Goalscorers: 1-0, Henry, 38 mins; 2-0, Hleb, 48.

Cards: yellow for Ricardo Costa (32), Rosicky (64) e Gilberto Silva (88).

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Bad defeat, Arsenal was superior. What made the difference was their ability to attack very fast, with lots of players permanently doing movimentations. Our defence simply isn't capable of dealing with such a dynamic attack, we rely too much on last second tackles, plus half the team was nervous.

We're in a bad situation now in the group, 3 points being CSKA. CSKA isn't superior to us by any means, but it'll be hard to overtake them in the table. As for Hamburg, I saw the game in Russia and they looked quite poor, I believe they'll be 4th placed and dead last. So we should be able to go to UEFA Cup at least.
