and one of the men behind it is Guy Laliberte, CEO and brain of Cirque du Soleil.

The designer of the club has won some awards too for commercial design.

Sundance Music Festival was like 2 weeks ago. They had a MASSIVE lineup, so I have no idea what you are talking about.

It helps if you read the 1st page's posts.

When you get to Montreal, find and take HWY 10 (Autoroute des Cantons de l'Est) towards Granby. About 20 minutes after leaving Montreal, you will see Exit 227 for a small town named Marieville, take it. Find Rue Ste-Marie.. and a place called Studio Sex 55. You'll thank me later LOL!

Only if you have spare time that is hahaha

i walked by opera yesterday and i saw them raising huge granite slabs. The stuff the crane was lifting up tells me its going to be high on style.Lets hope the music follows.

Ya the flash video on their site is rather impressive.

Lack of trance is all I gotta say. Thing with MTL is 99 % of the clubs play only house, kinda why I tend to hit up Toronto more often now (I am from Ottawa), Aria is the only exception, Toronto I am pretty sure you can find any style on most nights. Now that Ferry and Armin are coming to MTL again there seems to be more life.

Also I am not too sure, but MTL doesn't really have one super-club like the GUV in T dot from what I know, I hope this new Opera club solves this problem.

Montreal is certainly not what it used to be. Bal en Blanc is one of the only great events left. Circus has gone completely downhill. Stereo and Aria are all house now. Red Lite is still great but it's all the way up in Laval. Still love Montreal though...

Montreal is all about supper clubs.

The guvernment is an exception more than the rule. I can't think of other clubs in north america with 8000 capacity.

Montreal is still clearly the leader in large organized events. Bal en Blanc, Sundance, this week's Outgames, etc are proof of that.
On weekdays, Stereobar on Wed or Thursday nights can be a lot of fun too.

On any typical weekend though, Toronto clearly beats Montreal if you want to go out to the bar scene. Footwork, Beba, This is London, Film Lounge, Guvernment, Comfort Zone, and many others all are very different and suit different people with different tastes, whether you like a lot of sketch, upscale, or anywhere in between. Montreal has Upper Club and Myst but that is about it. Parking and Unity also have great music, but my understanding is Parking is limited to gay mens on Fri and Sat night. So my experience is limited to Thurs and Sun night at Parking.

If you want to compare Montreal with Toronto in terms of afterhours, sure Montreal has more, but most of them aren't worth my time anymore. Aria- forget it. Circus- sometimes can have a great DJ, but sometimes good music isn't enough for a good time- there needs to be a good vibe and friendly people. Circus really is a snore anymore and the girl/guy ratio has gotten really bad over the last year. RedLite can be OK depending on the night, but I find too many hip hop thugs and the crowd generally way too young for my taste.
This leaves Stereo as the only destination in Montreal for afterhours. Much like Sonic, Stereo has great DJs (although Stereo is attracting more big names), friendly crowd, great sound (Sonic is getting really close to Stereo quality). I have to say that Sonic attracted more fine ladies this past Saturday than I have seen in any Montreal afterhours, despite Montreal's reputation for beautiful women. Myself and a number of others agree that most of Montreal's fine ladies don't bother with the bar/club/afterhours scene at all.

Montreal has much more to enjoy than the clubs though- there is a great ambience, the supper clubs and other great restaurants as mentioned previously, a lot of history to see.

i'm pretty sure it's Pride week in montreal this week

Posted by bryans05 on Aug-02-2006 21:59:

im going to be in Montreal this weekend, and am actually surprised by the weak DJ line ups in all the clubs. Being pride and all...Seems like the clubs will all be full anyways, might as well save on DJ costs by having locals everywhere. The only exception being Sunday with Calderone at Stereo and Rauhofer at Aria. I still expect to have a great time though
