haha....I'm actually going to Detroit this weekend...and I feel safer being in Detroit than downtown Toronto during this event.
My friends works for tourism...and because its so busy, she has to downtown in the hotel at the Westin I think...
uh oh...someone needs to give her the kevlar. She's shitting herself scared that she has stay there.
Edit: It isn't considered rascism if its true. It's not my fault that all of the shootings around town (well not all, but like 95%) are black individuals. If they don't want people to stereotype...then tell them to stop shooting, or else we need to get the asian and white population to pick up the slack a bit.
As of right now, black people shoot other black people. An event full of black people does not equal safe. I'll take my chances in Detroit thank you very much.

So get this, I went out last night, took a cab down yonge street with friends and there were so many freakin' cops out - especially at the intersection yonge/gerrard! It was crazy - at least 5-6 officers on each freakin' corner.
If anyone plans on driving down town this weekend - they have set up 3 ride programs on ricmond, yonge, and adlaide~ streets so do not drink and drive, and I should hope that everyone is smarter then to do so!!!!
DON'T Drink & DRIVE~!!!!
So aon that note, let's get back to the program!
CARABANA Weekend = Lots of Cops all over yonge street -

Not only cops will be there to keep an eye on the crowd this year, but they are video cams installed at certain intersections (I think)...which will mean more tax money spent...
But really...is that going to guarantee people's safety?
Well at least there will be evidence in an event of a shooting... (which IMO will likely to happen this year...)
Last night as I was standing on yonge street, the corner i was at had 14 cops standing next to me, 16 accross the street, teams of 2 walking up and down yonge, 6 bike cops and sure enough just as I was thinking, the only thing not here is horse cops 2 horse cops showed up.
And that was thursday night.

meh...I don't have anything particularly positive to say.
I know most people are here to party and the weekend brings a chunk of $$$ into the economy...but other events, like Pride, the Molson Indy, sporting events, other festivals, etc. do the same without the Police setting up video surveillance and command posts around the city.
A small thug element manages to tarnish the weekend every single year, it seems. The unreported violence is rarely considered too (like someone I know who was beaten by a few American thugs in the lobby of his own apt, simply because they identified his as a little too openly gay for their liking).
Here's hoping the weekend is drama free and everyone just parties and has a good time!
